Just seen that Lisa-Anne wood has this afternoon announced her pregnancy. How exciting! What are people’s thoughts in terms of a glinda maternity cover? I can see Christine Tucker being promoted to maternity cover standby. But they'll then need to get someone in as an ensemble cover? They'll just get an maternity cover for the standby its much more economical and easier to just replace one role than move the other around and then replace that

Websites been updated to 3hrs 10 maybe this really IS that long! Interesting. They had it at 3hr 20mins yesterday. Shortening by the day? assume they did a dress on Saturday and that's the current running time

Aren't the first shows on a Saturday always cancelled at the Donmar and they just start on the Monday?
It's a weird tactic that they just continually do but it always happens 😂

Vanessa will be great.
I'd rather a different cast than most of the workshop folk but we'll see what happens.

An interesting one this, and I think it's main 'issue' it's that a lot of the audience go in expecting another Jerusalem or Ferryman. It's not trying to do that, but I couldn't help coming away feeling a bit short changed.
My main problem is it doesn't earn the three act structure in the way previous Butterworth plays have - it's simply there because of the need for a costume change and a set change. The scene at the top of act 3 can go, and it could trim another 5-10 mins, giving you a 2hr 45 minute play with one interval.
Pretty faultless casting though. Laura Donnelly is just mesmerising to watch on stage, and she's utterly remarkable again here (get the woman in a Sondheim show for goodness sake.) Ophelia Lovibond is pretty spectacular too, alongside Leanne Best and Helena Wilson they make quite a leading four -the younger versions of them are cast perfectly too.
It's just 4 stars for me, because I thought that the final scene was pretty much perfect, but it's not one I'd return to like I have with other Jez plays.

No, in a 'the way touring theatre works in this country is absolutely broken and doesn't work and basically isn't worth the stress regardless of how good the role is' kind of way

I can't understand why this has sold out already when we know nothing about the quality of the work. Relatively small venue and people really like the concept i guess! Sure, but Benjamin Button didnt become a sell out until after it opened (and that had a prior run, good word of mouth, and an Olivier award winning star in the lead) so I'm just...confused as to what's set the public's interested alight

2 stars from the Guardian 4 stars from What's On Stage.
What a wild situation I find myself in where I find myself agreeing with the Guardian critic.

Exactly this. It's so tedious having the same argument every time a show goes on sale. Not as tedious, I suspect, as being an ATG+ member and getting zero priority whatsoever for the privilege. Not as tedious as queueing for 4 hours, getting a 404 error and being kicked back to the start of the queue because it's a shambles. Seriously, do you and others on here not see any problem whatsoever with inflating the ticket prices during the presale? I am genuinely flabbergasted that many people on here are content to be mucked about and ripped off, and then make others feel wick for having the temerity to call it out. Okay, so you have a point with the ATG membership this time round - that was sh*tty and they should have done it better. Systems crash though - it happens all the time when big music gigs go on sale. It's a fact of life. But I have absolutely no issue with inflating the ticket prices during the presale. It's dynamic pricing. It's been with us for decades. The show was going to sell out today, so rather than inflate the prices tomorrow (like starlight did for example) they had to do it today or they wouldn't get the additional money (and dynamic pricing is built into a budget). I know that's an unpopular opinion, but the pricing for this (before and after the dynamic pricing) in my eyes is very reasonable.

Wow. Someone needs to do something about it.. There’s nothing to do. They’re selling a product and have every right to do what they did. They come across as a horrible company for doing it, but that doesn’t mean there’s nothing wrong with it. Exactly this. It's so tedious having the same argument every time a show goes on sale.

Fairly sure the key 3 puppets will remain as they are, but they're look at ways for set etc to be a bit more economical
