God this is good.
Easily the best play I've seen so far this year. Cracking script, unbelievably relatable and real and a first rate cast.
Really hope it has a second life somewhere - it's great.

It was a massive hit at the Apollo, and it's sold exceptionally well on its tour over the past year. The London run previously was only 7 weeks don't forget and wasn't in the West End...
London has got some great names in it (for both the wider public and theatre aficionados) and it's feel good.
The production is...pretty cheap really, and the selling power of Bev and Ruth Jones together for 12 weeks, alongside Alexandra Burke and whoever ends up with her as Mother Superior) Say what you will about Jamie Wilson's very cheap productions - he knows how to cast people that will set the box office alight!

I actually don't think it's as good a musical as a lot of people have convinced themselves it is, and that the reviews are probably largely fair (but maybe I'm in a minority)

They're much better behaved than the audiences at a lot of jukebox shows!
Gives me the Frozen kids over the Jersey Boys audiences any day!

It's not ready.
Old Vic have been workshopping it, getting it into a position where it's ready but it's not there yet so that's not going to be happening on the timeline posted above.
If it happens in the near future it'll be at the Old Vic, and those dates are not Old Vic dates so sorry to get your hopes up but these dates aren't real.

Next show at the Trafalgar theatre is "the return of one of the best new plays of the century". Any ideas? The History Boys? Theatre Royal Bath just announced a new production and tour of The History Boys, so unlikely it's that. I think it'll be a revival of One Man, Two Guvnors with James Corden returning, they were looking to stage it in 2024 in the West End so this would line-up perfectly with that. It won't be with Corden if it is OMTG

Few people in this industry will I defend with the strength I will defend Sheridan. She's a worker as she's shown in all her shows, with Funny Girl being the exception to the rule due to horrendous personal circumstances.
I'm excited to see it.

Based on sales I'm assuming rush will be a thing

Looks like this will be a no from me then. Even 3hrs 10mins makes it a huge rush to get to the Lyttleton for a 1830hrs start. Starting it at 1400hrs would be a better option A 2.30pm would finish at 5.40pm, giving you 50 minutes to do the 20 minute walk to the National - I think you've got time?

Dorfman (if I'm right) doesn't employ understudies whereas Lyttleton and Olivier do (as the increased capacity allows room in the budgets I imagine)
Unfortunately one of those things but has been the way in the Dorfman for as long as I can remember?

Sort of not surprising following Donny's run in the Palladium Panto.
Dread to think the ££ Michael Harrison will be paying him.

Nigel Lindsay and Hammed Animashaun are the gangsters for Brush Up Your Shakespeare.
Very interesting they've not stunt cast these and have gone with proper actors - evidently not worried about ££

BTW if Kwame is stepping down they should do whatever it takes to replace him with Robert Icke. They definitely won’t want to do that. Please for the love of god don't do this.

Thought it was pretty good as well.
Not the play I was expecting but a very enjoyable and thought provoking one nonetheless.
All cast very strong - laughs and drama done equally well.
Strong 3 for now, 4 once they've had a bit more time.

A date of October 2024 is being bandied around for a new production of Martin Guerre. Can anybody in the know confirm? Certainly won't be at the OV for those dates.

Claudia's likely to be covering Bev isnt she? Natalia is second cover and Claudia is first yes. Well that's a win.

Definitely needs celeb casting - it's the only way it lasted in London

oh I still enjoy the production, I just wish they cast proper people in it! Yes, it's a tremendous production when it's cast right. There have been the odd surprise with celeb-casting that has been brilliant but sadly they keep whacking it out with names that can't do the show justice. Fingers crossed they don't with this tour. Wouldn't it just be lovely to go back to the days of theatre where it didn't rely on celebrity names to sell. Those days are gone ha

Well I'll hope to catch a Claudia show with whoever ends up in the second cast as I've absolutely zero interest in watching Burke have another bash at this

But they'll then need to get someone in as an ensemble cover? They'll just get an maternity cover for the standby its much more economical and easier to just replace one role than move the other around and then replace that At the moment Christine is due to leave in march at the cast change and seeming she has been so reliable this last year I think producers might potentially ask Oh if she was going to be leaving then fine - I've completely lost track of what's going on at this show as it's...pretty boring in it's current state.
