May I make a suggestion?
The venue selected- the Queen Elizabeth Hall at RFH- is fine for me however, in the event that there is something on and we can't get in, may I suggest the British Film Institute (BFI) bar.
There are comfy sofas and the opportunity to talk without too much noise, like at a pub, or load music playing.
There is a bar area serving alcohol, cocktails, tea and coffee.
It's literally right next door to the Royal Festival Hall, sitting between the National Theatre on the other side.
Again, just thought and potential should things go pear shaped.

A real deep dive on Tim I remember is a South Bank Show episode from around Christmas 1985 when he talked about his career to date then and how the idea of Evita came from listening to a radio programme about Eva Peron when he was driving somewhere. He also confessed to being a frustrated rock'n'roller and performed a song accompanied by Hank Marvin on guitar. I have heard this too. A little side note, a couple of years back when there was the Bonnie & Clyde concert on at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane with Jeremy Jordan, Tim Rice and a much younger female- possibly his daughter or a relative was sitting about three rows in front of me and he was openly admitting that he no idea about this show or any of the actors in it.

For someone who was not there, did he discuss the 'yearning song'?
I once saw a television documentary where they were interviewing songwriters and lyricists and when interviewing Tim Rice he explained that writing for musical theatre was in a different league and there a method to it whereby about two or songs into the show the protagonist sings a song where there true intentions are revealed to the audience via the 'yearning song' which moves the story forward.
So, in The Little Mermaid, it's Part Of Your World; in Beauty & The Beast, it's the reprise of Belle, etc

They do need to do something about stage door, particularly for younger audience fanperson attracting shows as this issue comes up time and time again. (Personally I’ve literally never seen the appeal but appreciate a lot of young fans seem to love it. The boundaries inevitably get blurred though for the problematic minority….) This all started with Wicked didn't it? Or was it Rent? The "Rent-heads"? Did the internet engender these sort of cultish show fanbases, even pre-social media? Hmm, partially. There are general autograph hunters, or this who want a poster of image of the said celebrity, or even a piece of merchandise that they wat signed to flog at a heavily inflated price on websites such as eBay etc.

I guess it depends on the performer / star / person whether they enjoy the stage door experience. Personally, I find it all a bit odd - job done, time to go home, off for a bite to eat etc. But then I've always tended to compartmentalise things. Many thrive on the adulation, whether on stage or in the audience. In the end, it comes down to respect and boundaries. As for monetising it? Hmmm... "I bought you so let me now have my pound of flesh..." Ewww. I get it but don't forget that a lot of performers have egos that are swollen and insecurities that need to be stroked. They thrive on the affirmation, adulation and praise.

Broadway did it as a musical, and it is on my top 10 worst stage experiences ever. It was awful. Vampires rarely work onstage. Yes, I believe that was the case. I remember reading something about it at the time. Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't the music by Sir Elton John?

I have staged door a couple of times, mostly for plays.
Depends to the 'star' quality or popularity of the performers, there is usually some form of security and barriers.
If you're well behaved, polite, courteous and not overly pushy there generally isn't a problem.
I've had a photograph taken with Ellen Greene, Matthew Broderick (I mean, he's Ferris Bueller!), Tracey Ullman, Helena Bonham-Carter, Stockard Chamming, Simon Bird, James Corden, and Jeremy Jordan, to name a few. Also a really bad one with Rebel Wilson and not so good one with Michael Crawford.
I remember there was a play some time back with Nicole Kidman. She staged doored in the blink of an eye and then whilst everyone was waiting at the back, exited the theatre through the front of the theatre to an awaiting black cab.
I believe Richard O'Brian did a similar thing the last time he was on stage performing as Riff Raff in a Rocky Horror tour in the West End.

Don’t give anthony40 ideas! If the meet-ups take off we might be able to look into getting more pins. No promises. So, in the event that these badge cannot be sought, I have the 10 remaining ones that I am happy to give away on the day, on a first-come basis, until they run out. One badge per person.

Sorry just realised I've missed the poll. I can make any of those dates. Just been looking for my old forum badge, I think last time I wore it was for the Theatre Cafe quiz in Shaftsbury Ave (Anthony40 was also on the team if I'm right?) Anyway couldn't find it unfortunately but I did find a Dress Circle and Stephen Sondheim Society badge together with 2 £1 coins. So worth the hunt. Alec, you are right

I don't know too much abut this show in terms of the plot or the songs.
I mean, I'm certainly aware of it and the fact that many would like to see a transfer.
What I do know is what a funny guy Jason Mansford is and what a rich, full-rounded voice he has.

It was (is) a small blue pin that you could wear when you went to see a show and you could instantly recognise a fellow theatre board member.
Particularly if you are a attending a show alone.
They were sent to me by a Moderator (can't remember who or when exactly) for a theatre quiz once and there were too many. These are what I have left over.

Unless one of the Moderator can supply me with any more, I have only 10 small blue Theatre Board pins.

Come on Malta and Australia! No bias there at all eh anthony40 ? One of my favourite ever entries was a Maltese one. Little Child by Mary Spiteri. Fab belt at the end. Gotta stay true to the motherlands* BurlyBeaR! (He puffs out his chest and thumps his heart with pride!) *For those of you unaware, although I was born, raised and educated in Australia, my heritage is Maltese.

I have not seen this so am not in a position to comment but am certainly aware of it.
Everyone's positive comments leap from the page.
From what I can gather it seems like they're taking the p***s out of Celine Dion and THAT song.
Not having seen it, I wonder how whatever is being done and said lands in light of her recent medical diagnosis?

Oh dear, this was an interval departure from the Octogan for me today. It didn’t bode well when the Urchins opened the show and it became apparent that they were also part of the band. Im not totally against actor/muso but when they started singing I couldn’t hear a word of the lyrics. The street drunks in the opener leapt up to join the band on the raised tier after their bit with one of them becoming the dentist later. Seymour, Audrey and Mr Mushnik weren’t playing instruments. Speaking of which, Seymour was a colour by numbers interpretation, fine but nothing new or exciting. Audrey was totally unbelievable for me. Ok we don’t have to have a wimpy downtrodden Audrey every time but if you’re not going to do that whatcha gonna do instead? Give us something to work with here. Mr Mushnik was working SO hard and looked genuinely like he was going to have an on-stage seizure. Red faced, sweating, seriously I was concerned for his health. If that was acting then 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 to you sir. The puppet was too cartoonish. Totally unthreatening even at the end of act 1 which considering it’s just been fed the dentist’s body parts was concerning to me. However, however, however I would have stayed for act 2 if only I could have heard what they were singing. No idea what the cause was but anything sung as ensemble was unintelligible. Some of Seymour’s and Audrey’s solo stuff in Act 1 was ok. Feed me… I couldn’t hear a word of it. There’s not that much dialogue, the story is mainly told through Howard Ashman’s witty and clever lyrics so if you can’t hear them then really what’s the point. Hopefully it was just this performance that something was amiss but for me it’s a 🪴 only. Ah BurlyBeaR! How disappointing! One of my favourite films!

Anyone who has been to The Turbine... How easy is it to get to on public transport? I know there is that new tube station there, but is it easy to get to? Can you walk from Victoria? Yes, very easy from the new tube station. From Victoria? It's a bit of a hike!

I saw Faye Tozer in the production of Singing in the Rain at Saddlers Wells and I though she as really great!
Kept in character and the accent up in both her acting and singing.

Yes I read about the early closure this morning.
This is a shame.
It is something that I would never have seen but it does indeed seem a shame.

If I can make a suggestion?
You're never going to please everyone and you could be given multiple reasons as to why people can't make it, or why another date would suit/
Whenever a date is decided upon, stick to it.
It's like planning a wedding. Those who will be available and want to be there will do their best to do so.
Then, depending upon the success of this one, possibly plan a similar event up north.

Hello from Australia! My name is Peter and I am a musician, musical lover and a semi-retired chef (health issues 😔) Australia has a reasonably threadbare musical theatre scene if you’re looking for something very new. As an example, it was roughly a decade or more before we got Phantom. So mostly, I look for well made shot videos on the usual channels, and try to collect OST’s when they become available. I would love to see Broadway and West End, but I have left it too late and cannot travel now. But at very least, I have a connection to the theatre world vicariously through this site and the people discussing here. Thanks for reading 🫠 Hello Peter, Fellow Aussie here, from Sydney, however here in London. With a little searching there are loads of performances, behind the scenes interviews and documentaries, even full shows on YouTube.
