I saw the film Amulet at the BFI, Southbank.
Not only did I not enjoy it (in truth) I didn't understand it.

As much as I truly love ABBA- always have, always will- this thread is becoming boring.

I have a question about the new songs?
It its my understanding that all existing songs from the show are the film plus some new songs.
However what I wonder is whether the new songs are indeed, just that- new songs? Or are they (or some of them) songs that were written for the show originally but cut?

A 4th film! Isn't that a little excessive? Whilst there's no doubt enough songs in ABBA's back-catalogue that could be used, a 3rd film (I feel) is necessary to tie up the following: We as the audience deserve to know why and how Donna died, We as the audience deserve to see Ruby cast Donna aside when she learns of the pregnancy; and We as the audience deserve to see Ruby break it off with Fernando Cienfuegos The problem with dragging out a 4th film is that unless all of the principle cast return, not only do you run the risk of ruining continuity but you also run the risk of loosing the audience. Yes, introduce new characters however it also needs a strong enough and plausible storyline. As (in so many ways) the second film was better than the first so, in turn, one would expert the 3rd to better than the 2nd, and the 4th better than the 3rd. And as they haven't as yet been included, given the above, I would anticipate the following songs to be included this time round; Under Attack, So Long, I Let The Music Speak, Like An Angel Passing Through The Room, I Still Have Faith In You and don't Shut Me Down to name but a few.. And what caused Donna's mum to go from being a conservative god fearing Catholic, to...well...party loving Cher With glitter in her veins!

I went this week.
I had previously but this had been updated.
Unless you're going to take the time to read every single tag on every single display, you can knock this out in an hour.
Particularly impressive (in my opinion) were The Lion King costumes- they'e impressive at he best of times- and Elphabah's costume from Act II in Wicked. As was the set design for the Staunton/Ball Sweeney Todd.
Some great Panto Dames costumes, costumes from Everybody Loves James, Six, the red dress from the latest Company revival.
Don't miss the blur pair of roller skates from Starlight Express and the shoes worn in Cats.

I knew Molly wouldn’t win and that it would (ultimately) come down to Hamza and Fluer- I was hoping for Hamza.
Well done! I’m my eyes, the best pair won.

It'd be interesting to see the make up and costume design for Chistery. It'd also be interesting to see if in the film we'll actually see (even just a glimpse) of Dorothy and Toto, rather than just a shadow image, as they do on stage. I'd imagine Christery will be CGI You're probably correct however if that's the route they choose to take then (personally) I'd find that quite disappointing. If they could do it without CGI in 1939 when the original made, surely they could do it today?

Is it too early to with everyone a Merry Christmas? I mean it's only at the end of next week.
What a year we've all had. we have had and amazing, long drawn out summer.
Such political turmoil, so many Prime Ministers it's embarrassing. Even one in 'The Jungle'.
Postal strikes, lawyers on strike, NHS nurses on strike, baggage handlers on strike, train strikes and a cost of living crisis. Most recently the weather- freezing!
We have also had some wonderful theatre film adaptations.
But through it all, we have had the one thing the draws us all together- live performance: plays, opera, musical and comedy. And this board in which we can all express our thoughts and opinions.
So, firstly, thank you to all of the moderators who routinely keep us in line
As as we all start our mass exodus to get away and be with loved ones, please be safe and travel well.
As my parents are in Australia, my sister who is also here in London will come round and with my flatmate who is from India will have a 'orphans Christmas'.
So, Merry Christmas to all. See you on the other side in 2023.

A few thoughts.
Firstly, what the hell was Tess wearing? That blue cross the boob thing?
Kudos to both Carlos and Vito- each in their first appearance on Strictly to have gotten their partners to the final- Vito in particular for overcoming the language issue.
Finally, Hamza to win!

Whilst I'm sure it's within her capability, I've said it one, I'll say it again, Sheridan Smith as a middle-aged, bored and frustrated Liverpudlian housewife- I just don't buy it.
I'd love to be proven wrong, but I just don't buy it!

May I ask a question?
I understand this is a new musical with original music by Elton John and lyrics by Jake Sheers however I was wondering, given that Tammy Faye has a successful singing career in her time, as to whether (in any way) they sampled some of her songs in what we saw on stage? Even if in the underscoring?
Just a thought and if they did, a little 'nod' to her.

Thanks Mark. A short tube into WestEnd. New to London, literally, looking on google earth/maps! and then the factoring in of train strikes etc etc I thought it was the Jubilee line, and well over an hour? no? But thats great then your saying, worth getting saying, Wicked tickets and also Newsies. Any thoughts on a musical, for daughter, loves Newsies..another musicial westend that suits? hence thinking Wicked? garjobo I appreciate that you may be new to London but I'm on the Jubilee line and (trust me) it doesn't take an hour to the West End! From Finchley Road to the O2 is only 25 minutes!

Well, where to begin with this (another) Disney hit!
Firstly, this is a big venue to fill.
For those not aware, the Troubabour Theatre the old studios where the X Factor was filmed.
The foyer is quite busy and the queue for the merchandise was quite long, but fast moving.
Also, despite it being cold outside, I could swear that they were pumping heat through vents as it was quite warm and there were definite 'warm' patches.
Last night started late by about 15 minutes.
Because it's a bigger venue, the stage is also big but it was filled when those Newsies boys came on stage.
This is a big cast with an impressive set. All 'adult' members of the cast were strong, acting and singing.
The costumes are perfect, with the occasional flat cap falling off.
But it was the Newsies that we all came to see. I challenge any one of them to be day over 25 and (genuinely) their mother's must be beaming with pride.
There were Newsies singing, doing backflips, tap-dancing on table tops, swinging from large lights above the stage and (at times) the audience and swinging on ropes .
All those young lads earning their graft in the chorus in shows like Anything Goes, 42nd Street Mamma Mia! or Mary Poppins, here was their chance to shine, all in sync, all on their toes and pirouetting .
Yes, there was the odd mic problem and the random spotlight issue but nothing was going to calm down this extremely enthusiastic crowd, of quite varying ages.
(Trust me- I'm giving nothing away here) half way through the second act about 7 female Newsies emerged and the young girl next to me screamed so loudly- hysterically, I honestly couldn't hear a word they were saying!
Michael Ahomka-Lindsay as Jack Kelly is by no means a Jeremy Jordan however quite good, vocally strong and competent when he did have to dance.
Similarly Bonte Barbe as Katherine Plumber is very well cast, at many times being the only female on stage and holding her own.
For those concerned, although there is no actual audience interaction, the cast do run through the audience regularly. sing at them and maybe handing out a newspaper to two.
As stated above, the show started a little late last night- about 7:45 instead of 7:30 and intermission was at 9pm. Show finished at about 10:30. it's no more than a 10 minute walk to the station.
If I had to describe this show in a word, I'd say dynamic!
As terrific as it was, and it really was, the constant thought that ran through my mind was for how long are these kids gonna keep up that level of stamina? Not just for this performance, but for the run.
I'm going out on a limb here but, this could quickly become one of the hottest tickets in town

Anyone else receive a mysterious email this afternoon simply stating- There's a Place for Us
Announcement tomorrow at 10.30am.
Perhaps a reference to West Side Story? Or of the great mam himself, Steven Sondheim. It was the 1 year anniversary of his passing.

I watched Fame quite recently after not seeing it for many years. It completely still stands up 40 years after it was released. As does the soundtrack!
