When I first went to see Once, I wanted to love it. Instead I hated it. A few months later, believe it or not I went back, to see if it was me. Nope, still hated it. Needless to say, I'll be giving this a miss.

Such an emotional day. So much to take in and to try to remember. I too thought Kirsty Young only just managed to hold it together at the end. My tear trigger points - the bearer party, the lone piper(s), the pony and the corgis.

From Matt Hemley of The Stage, on Twitter:
"As much drama off stage as on it at Back to the Future tonight after an inebriated audience member disturbed act one: picking a fight with the person in front, climbing over rows & virtually sitting on other people’s laps, before the producer got security to throw him out."

I read somewhere that the corgis were gifted to the Queen by Andrew and Sarah. Her Majesty was concerned about taking on new puppies at her time of life, and only accepted them as long as A & S agreed to take them back and look after them, should she pass away.

I can't believe this has upset me so much. I was out this morning, and when I caught up early afternoon I found myself welling up with tears, even though it was several hours before it was announced she had died. Like virtually everyone else she is the only monarch I have ever known. RIP Your Majesty.

I told them exactly what I thought! Not, I hope, the person scanning your ticket. Yes, I told them they would have to wait while dealing with a hopeless geriatric!

I totally agree with paul26. I recall seeing someone whose phone had a cracked screen, which did not display his rail ticket properly, have to fork out over £100 for a new train ticket before he was allowed to travel (this was a few years ago, when displaying tickets on phones was in its infancy, so maybe technology has improved since then). I now always insist on a proper train ticket. I don't want my whole life on my phone - what if said phone was lost or stolen? However, this is digressing.
I too prefer a proper theatre ticket, although I do print out emailed ones if I have to. Being no spring chicken and not a techy person, it took me a while to put on my reading glasses and find tickets on my phone, thus holding up the queue for everyone else, on the two occasions I had to do it. I told them exactly what I thought!

Dare I say it, but I'm much more excited about this cast than I was when the current one was announced. Now to hope it comes to a venue near to me.

Well, whatever the issue was last night, everything is fine now. Two tickets duly purchased for Saturday afternoon.

I'm trying to get £40.00 front stalls for the Saturday matinee, but it's not working. I wonder if they're on there in error. Lots there at the mo - those seats were (and probably still are) mostly £100 on the Sadler’s Wells website. Coming up for me on TodayTix and could add to basket - is it not letting you check out? I had them in the basket, then they said there was a problem, and to try a different method of payment. I tried Mastercard and Visa (don't have Google Pay), but the same message came up each time. I know there is no problem with my cards, so have emailed them, and am awaiting a reply.

Some £32.50 front stalls seats have popped up on TodayTix for a few nights this week. I just picked up a couple. Thanks, just grabbed row F for Friday. A bargain! I'm trying to get £40.00 front stalls for the Saturday matinee, but it's not working. I wonder if they're on there in error.

There were a lot of small children at Frozen, but to their credit the ones near us were very well behaved.
I remember once seeing a man holding a tiny baby at a show. Apparently his wife had gone into labour two weeks early, so they had come to the show with the new infant, rather than waste the tickets! There wasn't a peep from the baby, who slept throughout.

I recall several years ago, at Shrek, mother and grandmother passing a grizzling toddler backwards and forwards to each other, desperately trying to get the child interested in what was happening on stage. She couldn't have been more than two. They were seated directly behind me - it was so annoying. They ignored my black looks, but in fairness they probably didn't even notice. They left at the interval.

Traditionally amongst the celebrities there is always the following; a comedian, a celebrity with a disability, an older 'more mature' celebrity, a sporting celebrity- now doubt they'll try and get one of the Lioness' or someone from the Commonwealth Games- and most recently a gay celebrity. Have I forgotten any? Fr me, Kay Adams, falls into the more mature category and Ritchie Anderson into the gay category. I'd love to see what comedian is up for it this year. An "influencer" or YouTuber with a zillion followers.

I was at yesterday's matinee. Whilst I don't have anything like the amount of knowledge some board members have about this musical (I've only seen the Colosseum version before this), I thought I'd jot down a few thoughts.
There was a terrific atmosphere in the theatre - I am convinced I half recognised more than one person who should feature in the "People I've Seen In The Audience" thread, but I am hopeless at identifying anyone out of context, as it were.
The orchestra and singers were fabulous. I loved Samantha Barks, but sadly I'm not a fan of Hadley Fraser, never have been. I find him dull - sorry. I wasn't familiar with Joel Harper Jackson, but thought he was very good. As for Frances Mayli McCann, she looked far too young to be HF's wife, more like his daughter! Someone said earlier that she sounded as if she was auditioning to be a Disney princess, and that just about summed her up. I didn't know Ako Mitchell either, and was underwhelmed by his performance - maybe he had voice problems?
Unlike most people on here, I quite enjoyed the dancers.
Several goosebumps moments for me, but not totally blown away. Thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon, though.

Backpacks! I was at the Chess matinee and could not believe the size of the backpacks some people brought in with them. I mean, what can you possibly need for an afternoon at the theatre that you can't put into something smaller? A couple of people clambered across those who were already seated, then swung around, backpack still in place, nearly taking out any unfortunate theatregoer within range.

Does anyone remember the fanatical Ramin fan? Once when I was at Les Mis he leapt to his feet cheering after Bring Him Home and was rewarded by some very odd looks from the cast. I think they knew him.

Note to self is not to book a matinee on Pride day! I made that same note a few years ago. I got the tube to Green Park & tried to walk to the Criterion, only to find it was impossible to cross Lower Regent Street at Piccadilly Circus because of the parade. I had to dash back to Green Park & take the tube one stop to Piccadilly Circus in order to effectively cross the road! I just made it before the show started. This happened to me too. I'd booked to see Titanic at the Charing Cross Theatre. I knew about the road closures, so made a point of arriving before the Strand was closed. When I came out of the show, the Strand was still closed and people were picnicking in the middle of the road. I managed to find somewhere to go for a coffee, and was able to watch while sadly for all the picknickers (that word does not look right!) the heavens opened half an hour or so later, and everyone got soaked, had to grab their stuff and run for cover. However, there was no indication of when the Strand would reopen to traffic, so I had to trudge in the rain for what seemed like miles to find another bus (in hindsight, I could have dived down the Tube, but for some reason that never occurred to me at the time!) - you can only drink so much coffee.

I think for the longest time these things were put on the people who were at risk to avoid. My dad (born 1920 in the US, Irish Catholic family) reacted to the revelations of priest sex abuse by saying, "yeah, what's new? All us altar boys knew which priest we shouldn't be alone with." And as a secretary in the late 60s/early 70s (still very much in the Mad Men era), my orientation in one office included "That's the VP's office. If he wants to give you dictation after lunch, don't let him close the door." My response was, "oh, ok. Thanks." It was considered absolutely normal. As for those who didn't get the warnings, or who couldn't move or think fast enough to dodge, apparently, we thought "that's their hard luck". I'm appalled now by what we passively accepted at the time. Thank goodness we're* at least aware that it's not acceptable now. (*most of us, anyway....) Exactly this. I was a secretary too, and once had to go behind my boss's desk while he was on the phone, to answer his second phone. He put his hand up my skirt. He kept talking on his conversation, and I kept talking on mine, then I escaped and sat down without saying a word. He said nothing either, except to carry on with dictation when his phone call ended. It was what we did back then, got on with it. He did the same to other girls too. I learned from that incident never to go behind the desk again. Yet I said then, and still say now, he was the best boss I ever had. Back in my school days we had a teacher who we would deliberately allow to cuddle us, to avoid dictation. We didn't do our homework, he would threaten us with detention, at which point we would pretend to cry, and hence the cuddle and a warning not to forget our homework again. Imagine that these days. The world was so different then.

Caught the matinee this afternoon on a rush ticket. I’m glad I didn’t pay full price as all six leads on were understudies. They were all talented in their own right, but I was genuinely quite bored in parts. I don’t know if I’d have felt the same with the main cast there but I’m also not sure I want to sit through it again to find out! It has its place on the West End but it wasn’t full and I’m surprised to see it’s gotten an extension. I was there for Wednesday's matinee. We had four 'leading' understudies - no Danny, no Aimee, and understudies for characters Happy Man and Philip Stuckey (I don't have a programme to hand, so don't know the names of the original actors). Happy Man understudy was especially brilliant. I get what you mean, though, a couple of times my attention started to wander too.

During a quiet bit at Pretty Woman this afternoon, the old boy behind me announced loudly, "she's a good actress, isn't she?", totally ruining the moment.

Carrie's off on her Insta stories again. She's been told off for taking too long at Stage Door, to the extent they have to pay the theatre staff overtime as she is there for up to an hour after the show. After the matinee on Wednesday there were well over a hundred people waiting in a very long line at the stage door. I said to my friend that this is crazy. Nobody is going to be able to get any kind of break before the evening show so I get why things were said. However, did she not speak to those waiting she would be criticised too so she cannot win really... It was half term. I wonder if it's like that every Wednesday matinee?
