I don't know what is and isn't allowed to be said here, but after Kevin Spaceys charges, Noel Clarke allegations and now seeing this morning a fairly well known musical theatre actor has been arrested . I am wondering if this is just the start of a Hollywood type of reckoning for the industry.

Discussion about living individuals who have either not been charged, or who have not been found guilty is not ok. |

I think for the longest time these things were put on the people who were at risk to avoid. Don’t be alone with them. That person has wandering hands. Stay away from them. It was part of life in the way children were told to stay away from strangers. Complete victim blaming attitude. I knew about the Kevin Spacey thing for years. I have a friend who hangs out in those circles and she told me about his reputation from his time at o
Old vic. We took a long time to get to this point.

It’s a bit of a stretch to say Ross Williams is a well known musical theatre actor. I said fairly because I knew he wasn't top tier, but he has been around for a while and in various things and pretty known within the industry. |

I think for the longest time these things were put on the people who were at risk to avoid. My dad (born 1920 in the US, Irish Catholic family) reacted to the revelations of priest sex abuse by saying, "yeah, what's new? All us altar boys knew which priest we shouldn't be alone with." And as a secretary in the late 60s/early 70s (still very much in the Mad Men era), my orientation in one office included "That's the VP's office. If he wants to give you dictation after lunch, don't let him close the door." My response was, "oh, ok. Thanks." It was considered absolutely normal. As for those who didn't get the warnings, or who couldn't move or think fast enough to dodge, apparently, we thought "that's their hard luck". I'm appalled now by what we passively accepted at the time. Thank goodness we're* at least aware that it's not acceptable now. (*most of us, anyway....) |

I was a secretary too, and once had to go behind my boss's desk while he was on the phone, to answer his second phone. He put his hand up my skirt. He kept talking on his conversation, and I kept talking on mine, then I escaped and sat down without saying a word. He said nothing either, except to carry on with dictation when his phone call ended. It was what we did back then, got on with it. He did the same to other girls too. I learned from that incident never to go behind the desk again. Yet I said then, and still say now, he was the best boss I ever had. Back in my school days we had a teacher who we would deliberately allow to cuddle us, to avoid dictation. We didn't do our homework, he would threaten us with detention, at which point we would pretend to cry, and hence the cuddle and a warning not to forget our homework again. Imagine that these days. The world was so different then. |

It was what we did back then, got on with it. Which allowed them to continue on with it. That was also the era (in the US, anyway), of the office receptionist being asked to 'entertain' out-of-town clients. I was so naive I didn't know what that meant until someone explained. I thought she was giving them restaurant recommendations or taking them out for drinks or dinner on the company account. Didn't know SHE was the 'entertainment'. It was the 70s, so she could have been perfectly willing to participate. But there must have been some who did it because they couldn't afford to lose their jobs. |

You when you'e a young kid and sometimes on a flight an airline steward/stewardess would give you a colouring book? There was always a 'spot the pick-pocket thief in the crowd' picture. Imagine my surprise when as a young adult working in a full-time job that a manager walked in looking just like the pick-pocket thief! |
