I’m no monarchist, but this is sad news all the same. She just seems to have been there forever and until recently was expecting her to go on into her 100s like her mother did.
It’s odd to think we now have a king.

A sad day and the end of an era, we are all Elizabethans.
An amazing woman who gave her life to the nation, a life that from my perspective was a prison satiated by wealth and privilege, whenever I walked past Buckingham Palace always felt a bit sorry for her as she never had the freedom to experience London as we do, to just go where we wanted when we wanted to.
I only wish she could have seen us through the next few years as this is one change too many for the country with an already difficult few years ahead of us.
I was always more of an Elizabethan than a Royalist, my republican tendencies were offset by her majesty, not sure whether this will be true for the ones that follow.
When we reflect on where we heard the news, I was 15 minutes into my ZWIFT ride when the news came up in the chat, had a good 45 minutes to reflect on the news in my favourite place to mull things over, on the saddle of a my bicycle.

I can't believe this has upset me so much. I was out this morning, and when I caught up early afternoon I found myself welling up with tears, even though it was several hours before it was announced she had died. Like virtually everyone else she is the only monarch I have ever known. RIP Your Majesty.

At the Apollo Shaftesbury, the person I take to be the Front of House Manager came out and said the Palace have given permission for the show to go on, but that first we would be silent for 2 minutes for the dead Queen. You could hear a pin drop. Then he said: "Long Live the King." And the show went on. . . Her devotion to duty was an inspiration. She was the best of us.  |

At Pretty Woman, we got a statement from the house manager, a minute’s silence and the band played a very rocking version of God Save The Queen or King now I guess. Quite a weird thing for me to be an Irish person standing for the UK’s national anthem but it is definitely the end of the ‘old British society’ imo. |

According to my friend at Apollo Victoria for Wicked, an announcement was made that there would be a minutes silence after the show and that they would perform the show as written, before bursting into "Good News, SHE'S DEAD"😬.

Turned the TV on at lunchtime today and followed the news all afternoon and into the evening. It seems surreal. RIP Ma'am.

RIP. She was a wonderful woman. I can't imagine making those vows in my twenties and still following them faithfully in my nineties.
I was just thinking how many things will change — a couple of organisations I'm involved with had her as patron, and I have so many things in the house that are "By appointment to Her Majesty".

I've shed a few tears today too - I'm a republican and on the Left but her public service and dignity through all the years have been exemplary. I have to add that the social media comments and behaviour, the lack of basic human empathy towards a family losing a mother and grandmother, coming from some on the 'left' today have been revolting.

It's sad but at least 96 is a very good age. I've rather been expecting it ever since the death of Prince Philip, as since then she's looked increasingly frail in photos. I hope they are now reunited in heaven. They both certainly deserve everlasting rest after such busy lives. I was just thinking how many things will change — a couple of organisations I'm involved with had her as patron, and I have so many things in the house that are "By appointment to Her Majesty". Do all the organisations lose their By Royal Appointment status instantaneously with the Queen's death? If so that must be sad for them, especially as some of them must have had it for decades. |

I don’t know how things are meant to be in this mourning period. I’d like to think she’s with Philip now. Apart from the Royal Opera House and The Royal Albert Hall, none of the shows tonight were cancelled so I guess they can go ahead as planned apart from perhaps the day of the funeral. |

The Donmar Warehouse sent their New Writing Person on stage to lead a collective minute's silence before the show began - at which point it became apparent that the lady next to me did not know the news. We got chatting in the brief interlude between the silence and the show starting, and she told me that she remembered watching the footage of the Queen disembarking from the plane back from Kenya after George VI had died.
