They have tickets available in the OLT sale, from January onwards. I haven't looked too closely, but the tickets they are asking £50 for are usually £89.50 on the LW site.

I was about to say, who on earth (or Oz!) is Miss Coddle?

I must be missing something here. I was at screaming point with frustration watching the film, leaving me with no wish whatsoever to see the show, but everybody's raving about it!

Wow that opening was not good at all. I thought it was dreadful. As an avid musicals lover, I began to question whether I even liked them!

I see. This also brought up a few photos of the Wicked scene in question showing four of these characters on stage, when I saw it recently there were only two. Is this a change that has been made or was it just a shortage of cast? I think it was always 3 in London and 2 on tour but when I saw the show in September it was also just 2 then. I assumed it was cast illness rather than cutting it down for good but not sure now? Yes, exactly this. There used to be three of them (I always called them the Tweedle Dums and Tweedle Dees!), but a couple of weeks ago there were only two, and I also wondered if it was down to lack of cast through sickness.

At From Here to Eternity this afternoon - on seeing a palm tree just inside the door of the auditorium, the lady next to me asked her friend, "I wonder where it's set? Must be somewhere in South America with that palm tree"!

Was there this afternoon. No programmes to be seen, so I asked, and was told they were sold out! Not sure if they are restocking or not before the end of the run. What they are doing is providing a free A4 sheet with full cast and creatives, so better than nothing.

Well, blow me down - Lucie was on this afternoon! She and the Wizard (Mark Curry) were the only leads on. It was also a no fly show, which was a bit of a shame for anyone who hadn't seen the show before. Quite a lot of schools in, all very well behaved.
Glinda was Carina Gillespie (2nd cover) Fiyero - Michael Colbourne (1st cover) Nessarose - Maggie Lynne (1st cover) Morrible - Natalie Spriggs (1st cover) Boq - Joe Thompson-Oubari (1st cover)
The last time I saw Wicked was in the early days of Alice Fearn's tenure, and numerous times before that. This version does not rank up there with the greats, I'm afraid. I really liked Lucie's voice, and she had some interesting acting choices here and there, which were that little bit different. I thought Maggie Lynne, as Nessarose, was excellent, but the less said about the others, the better. With some of them, their diction was so poor that if I hadn't been familiar with the show and script, I wouldn't have known what they were talking about. Sadly Carina threw away most of her funny lines, so no one laughed. If I say Lucie was a class apart, that sums it up pretty well.
Wicked needs a good kick up the backside, bringing in some top leads (not sure if the next cast will cut it) and sharpening up the ensemble and sound.

I certainly won't be buying a digital programme. Like others, I like a printed one, to browse through on the way home. I find I can't read them in the theatre (as the light isn't bright enough or the print is pale writing on a paler page, for example), but I love to have a record of the show, and to occasional get them signed.

I don't live in London though. Getting from anywhere to London is usually easier than getting between two places neither of which are London. A few weeks ago I went to Colchester to see a play. It took me 2h15 & 4 trains to get there & I only live in the next county! There's also the issue of cost. I went to university in Bristol so I'm well aware how expensive GWR train tickets are, & the train to Birmingham isn't cheap either. Plus of course at the moment there are so many train strikes. If you book a train 3 months in advance to get a cheaper ticket & there's a strike that day then you're screwed. Exactly this. For any touring show I have to travel to, and cross, London to catch a train to my destination. Where I live is something of a cultural wilderness, with no decent theatres or shows. As far as London is concerned, I can't currently afford top price tickets, so wait for the offers to appear. There has to be 14 days notice of a strike, so I daren't book more than two weeks in advance. I can only go to matinees, and have missed out on countless shows recently when a strike has been called on a day I had earmarked. On the bright side, it's saving me a fortune!

I must say, this tour casting excites me far more than the recent London run. A pity none of the venues are near me. I could catch a train or two, but then there are the threats of rail strikes to take into account.

In the pharmacy for our Covid jabs yesterday, and an old boy in the queue was holding forth about the current political situation, and saying we should bring back Boris.

What baffles me is when people end up in completely wrong sections of the theatre. Surely they must know when they book their tickets whether they are in the Stalls, Dress Circle or wherever?

I recall being at more than one show where an understudy was announced for the main star, and said understudy was disgracefully booed. Is this why they no longer make announcements, I wonder?

I was only half watching the Masked Dancer, but a clue for one of the other contestants was "Swankified" - a Wicked clue if ever there was one!

I was at the matinee of & Juliet on Friday, and the whooping was well and truly in force. Six or seven teenage girls sitting next to me. If you know the show, you'll recall that cast members wander on at the start, dance a bit, then look out into the audience and mouth hello. The girls next to me were frantic, waving, whooping and generally trying to be noticed (they failed). Loud whooping and laughing continued throughout the show. They weren't the only ones, though, the place was full of extremely vocal teenagers. I know & Juliet is (very loosely) based on Romeo & Juliet, but surely all the teenagers there weren't attending as part of their school curriculum?! I had seen the show before, and loved it, but I won't be going back.

When I first went to see Once, I wanted to love it. Instead I hated it. A few months later, believe it or not I went back, to see if it was me. Nope, still hated it. Needless to say, I'll be giving this a miss.
