Thanks for clarifying the "new opening". I initially thought of seance and a medium transcribing onto staff paper...

I think its going to be huge. Big cast, big orchestra and, I expect, lavish costumes and sets. Also a new opening number. A new opening number. Eh?

The Fairy Queen Hampstead Garden Opera 19 - 28 April including two mattines
I've never seen HGO before but I love a bit Purcell and so have booked. In the Autumn they are doing Onegin - yay. Tchaikovsky and Purcell make me happy.

I remember reading in Opera that a new Turandot is planned for the ROH.
2024 is the 100 year anniversary Puccini's death, so maybe we'll get it then?

Any solid rumours as to what's going Drury Lane? I know people have said Sweeney or Hercules, but curious if anyone has heard any more credible whispers. I hope im wrong, i wonder if its going to be a series one nighters

I'm seeing it in Hull (always nice to visit a theatre that was integral to my growing up). As this will be about my 6th Little shop I doubt I'll see it in Sheffield, but I have seen a lot there over the years

I may shortly have to remove my very stylish Italian-made sweater, as I sit outside, on Sheffield's trendiest road, enjoying this pint of Irish Red bitter. 🔥🍺 Sheffield is ready for your snazzy summer abito

Some rambling thoughts
Try making a note of writers, creative and actors you like and dislike. Carry on reading reviews. A subscription to a screening platform would help build up your knowledge and preferences Books
But most of all, enjoy it. It should be fun and interesting and not an academic exercise

I loathe Wayne McGregor's work. So cold and isolating. On the other hand Ashton is very twee ...

Question for anyone who doesn't mind spilling the spoiler tea, how exactly and to what extent are the child abuse allegations explored? You'd have to think that MJ is probably the only figure in modern history with that much baggage who is still seen as a bankable and 'worthy' commodity/subject. I was wondering about that. Also his diagnosis of vitiligo (im assuming he was diagnosed?) & then the plastic surgery. Such a complex character.

TodayTix gave us C11,C12 in the dresscricle on rush. Great view.
My friend hated it. I thought it was too self-indulgent and overlong yet somehow I was drawn to it / enjoyed it.
I found the score to be uneven and it reminded why i cant listen to a Wainwright album all the way through.
SS i still dont get the hype. Ruby Hughes on the other hand was very good.
Refreshing and very welcome to see a new musical on Shaftesbury Av that doesnt fit into the Nunn, Stroman and Jerry Zaks mould.
I would listen to a cast recording and could be tempted to see it again in a few months time.

The seats are unallocated. It basic pub tables and chairs, you turn your chair round so you can see the show. Thankfully the stage is raised, i suspect everybody can see everything. I didnt eat, but i would as the fish and chips looked tasty (freezer to fryer type menu). I liked the beer! I hope you enjoy the show Mr Snow

If you like Magic Flute then this is the season for you. Im impressed they are staging the full version and also a condensed version. New production of Dutchman and Love Life make for a nice balance. LL will be getting a cast reocrding in collaboration with the Weill foundation. The news of LL makes me happy, I shall dustdown my programme from the previous production in 96 to celebrate! The lack of new productions and performances just makes me more frustrated with our current government but hey hum ... www.operanorth.co.uk/whats-on/

This production deserves all the rave reviews its getting.
Un amamplified voices & moving performances make me tempted to revisit.

Recently an RSC Hamlet went to Hackney Empire. Im not sure how it went down but i suspect the venue is good fit for large scale Shakespeare productions.
The Empire does have large gaps in its scheduling so it could work assuming ACE wants to fund it.

I used to sneak little bottles of wine into west end houses and always succeeded but now i dont bother. Im with Paul in often having some grocery shopping with me but never snacks or drinks ... Glyndebourne is a different though!

Good topic but im afraid im stealing ideas from bordeaux Here we are, a Schnitzler and how about Copenhagen (i loved it and dont understand why it staged more and what with the film of Openheimer) Have the Donmar ever done a childrens piece ? That would be my 4 option and then i run out of ideas and resign.
