I wonder if she's not going to open it, though. It seemed premature not of her but of The King and I PR to say she and Mori would be sharing the role, but not how.

That set is asking for a BSOD.

Is Tony Shalhoub back in it? He was the night I went (with an insert), but I think after this past weekend he was done.

Where did the summer go? It seems to be October outside. I understand. We had three seasons this weekend in NYC.

I finally saw this this past weekend. I was just telling a friend that if you wrote down what actually happens in the show, it would sound really boring. But the execution was lovely. Some of the songs were a little too long, but it's a fantastic slice-of-life kind of show and I really enjoyed it! I understand why others would find it too understated, though.

When they got up during curtain call, I handed a $20 bill to the guy who had enjoyed it and said loudly, "GO HAVE A NICE DINNER!" (He didn't take it.) Wait, wait. If I sit next too you and make a noise about wanting food, you hand me $20 after the show so I can go get some? This brings a whole new meaning to "meal and show ticket deal." Please let me know when you will next be in London and your exact seat numbers... LOL. I handed the $20 to the one guy who had been quiet and enjoying the show and was embarrassed by his friend/relative who was being awful. Oh, and in "Contact," when Collins said, "It's over," she said, "I wish!"

She was super pissed then she started kicking the back of my chair throughout the rest of the show. I just don't understand why people act that way. If I was told to be quiet, I'd be so embarrassed about my bad behaviour, I'd not dare to even move. Working as an usher, I'm basically paid to shush people and the amount of insults I've had to listen to simply because I've asked customers not to ruin the fun for everybody else... I was at a community theatre production of Rent and shushed a woman behind me, who couldn't BELIEVE someone would do that, then at intermission threatened TO ME that she would make noise for the rest of the show. Her theatre companions were all embarrassed. I told her I wasn't sure what argument she would have if the staff came over to ask why she kept talking. I had overheard her talking about wanting to leave early to get dinner (this whole group was in their 50s and 60s and clearly had no idea what they had signed up for), but the others wanted to stay and I could hear that one legitimately was enjoying the show. When they got up during curtain call, I handed a $20 bill to the guy who had enjoyed it and said loudly, "GO HAVE A NICE DINNER!" (He didn't take it.)

Not so much bad behaviour but a real nitpic that tipped me over the edge when watching Mood Music today... COUGHING DURING A SHOW It happens so often nowadays and its really really distracting. This was really bad today. At least four to five people were doing it and insensitive scenes too. If you're making a theatre trip, and have had a cough pending the performance, maybe consider cancelling or rebooking your ticket for a future showtime until the cough is gone. That or take cough medicine or cough sweets to limit it. Its distracting and really annoying. It's not always about being sick, though. Sometimes the air is suddenly dry, you walked past some potent flowers on the way to the show, or the dessert you ate on the way there is coming back up. The solution is to bring something that doesn't make noise (like wax-paper-wrapped cough drop) just in case it happens.

I venture to say there are plenty of actors who enjoy the attention at the stage door (for better or for worse), but I also feel like those who want to avoid the stage door can — more often than not it's easier if you're in the ensemble, of course.

Fair enough! But I do hear enough people asking, "Did that NEED to be a musical?" about all sorts of shows when the answer is no, but who cares if it wasn't needed? There's plenty of enjoyable stuff out there that was only wanted, not needed.

To be fair the inherent sarcasm of my reply might not have been completely obvious. And MFL irritates me as a musical (in music/style more than content if I'm perfectly honest) so I hadn't really paid it any attention. I love Pretty Woman as a film, and I do in fact defend it in terms of the woman not being a 'victim' and it being a pretty decent portrayl of some of those themes (if we consider also that it is coming up on 30 years old). That said, does it need to be a musical? or need to be remade in any way? Does any version of Pygmalion? Probably not... I think it's ok to create art and/or adapt an existing work out of desire/fun rather than necessity, but man, read the room!

I saw the show twice on Broadway and I didn't feel like it was an adaptation of the movie (even though it literally is). It felt like the movie and the musical were both based on some previous work and they both took fairly different paths in adapting it. I liked how the show was darker and more cynical than the film, and though I didn't really understand Playing Nancy at first, I appreciated it the more the show progressed.

I went on a tour of the New Amsterdam Theatre on Broadway and apparently they are quite proud of being one of the few former Ziegfeld houses that wasn't a porn cinema in the 70s.

So who is this Carl guy anyway? Is he the Krassenstein brothers of theatre?
