For the fifth year in a row (see last years trip report here: theatreboard.co.uk/thread/2942/rushing-broadway-9-shows-days), I'm headed to New York on holiday. This is the longest trip I'll have done at 9 nights. 3 nights in a hostel, then my parents and sister will join and we have a hotel for 6 days. Firstly, from reading the boards it sounds like a fair few others are planning a trip in June. I'm there from 1st-10th so do say hi if you see me in a rush line. If anyone has recent experiences of rushing/lottery in New York recently please post your experiences. The Master Plan: First time: The Band's Visit, Mean Girls, Frozen, A Bronx Tale, Once On This Island, Carousel Repeats: SpongeBob (missed Ethan Slater last time), Hello, Dolly (how could I not?!), Waitress (For McPhee), Phantom (Thurs Mat) Ticket Availability/Lottery Dependent: My Fair Lady, Three Tall Women Maybe: Skintight, Afterglow, Avenue Q, Dear Evan Hansen, Come From Away, Boys in the Band Any other suggestions welcomed.

Ha! I'm there on the 1st-8th! And then doing my rounds across the States to see friends and out of town tryouts in Chicago, Boston and San Fran!
I'll post my insane master plan close to the date.

Oh, I love her! But I'm off to Chicago on the 8th. Back to town at the end of the month for Part II of Angels in America and This Ain't No Disco. Then back home to pay the bills.

If you didn't see the site specific Sweeny Todd in London, I would recommend seeing it while you are in NY. It closes in August.

All I can say is DO NOT MISS COME FROM AWAY! Have seen it twice already. Once in New York with original cast and again in Toronto. I’ll gladly see it again though!

Well my trip is off to a cracking start. Won none of the 7 online lotteries I tried but I won the in person lotto for Mean Girls. My jaw wasn’t practically on the floor as there was around 200 people here.
Very excited!

^ Did you see it tonight? I saw it tonight and although it was entertaining enough I didn't really care for it.

Really surprised Erika didn’t get a Tony nod. Being in the front row was amazing mind, stage was low and I felt so immersed

TBH I thought it was Damien's and Janis's show. Erica was cute, but bland. Tonally, I thought it felt like three different shows in one, I really did not care for any of the characters as there's little to no emotional stake and involvement, which is why the show doesn't have much heart, as they say. I wasn't quite bored, but besides taking it at face value for basic entertainment, I didn't think it was that well conceived and still not Broadway-ready.

I going to hit New York for a mini-break mid June for 5 nights.
Anticipate to see Hello Dolly (Again), Angels in America, Three Tall Women, The Iceman Cometh, My Fair Lady, Carousel and Mean Girls, going to head off to New Jersey for the Thursday Matinee to see Half Time.
I haven’t bought any tickets as yet, but the prices on ticketmaster for Mean Girls are crazy, just out of interest how much did you pay? If I can not get a ticket at a reasonable price I am going to walk and perhaps see Frozen instead. Mean Girls will Ben there, the next time I go out or see it when Sonia Friedman brings it to London.

My lotto ticket was $42. They also have SRO but the line had formed before the lotto even began.
Seeing A Bronx Tale this afternoon ($32 digital lottery win, row E Orchestra) and Carousel tonight (Rush, row B Orchestra $40). Been very lucky so far with some very good deals.

Seems you were in good company at Mean Girls last night...saw both Hugh Jackman and Mark Harris (so presumably Tony Kushner as well) tweet they were there...

In person lotto was mean girls then digital for Bronx Tale. There seems to be issues with using non us cards mind for the online lotto, I had to call telecharge.

You won the lottery for Mean Girls, was it very busy? Very. Must have been 150+people there. So imagine my surprise when I was the third name drawn. Today I saw Dear Evan Hansen (Standing Room) and Afterglow off-broadway this evening.

Last night I saw Once On This Island. Won the lotto for $49.50 SRO tickets. There was probably about 80-100 people there trying to win tickets! Broadway is crazy! That many people wanting to stand and at £37 a ticket? Would never happen in London.
The production was absolutely stunning, and the staging was so well done. I didn't know much about the show before going in but the score was pleasant, even if the story was a bit strange.

How did you like Carousel? I really loved it. I’d never seen a professional production before, only an amateur version about 10 years ago. The music, performances and vocals were all stunning. I must especially note Josh Henry, such rich vocals. I think act two is majorly flawed, but it was a very enjoyable show.
