What a magnificent, sad, poignant and emotional day.
I looked at Sky and ITV briefly but soon came back to the BBC for the rest of the day.
Kirsty Young closing their coverage finished me off 😢

My Dad dozed off during the Windsor service and didn't see the coffin being lowered into the Vault so was confused when he woke up again to see the coffin had disappeared.
Was interesting to know that all monarchs from George III onward are buried at Windsor Castle although now I wonder where the previous monarchs from George II and below are buried.

Yes, Kirsty Young just about held it together right to the end. I didn't. It was exactly 10.42am when I started roaring.
Our servicemen and women are the finest in the world.
I don't think I have words for Prince George and Princess Charlotte.

What an emotional day. We watched mostly on ITV but it certainly was a fitting send off to what an example of true service really looks like.

For those of you who wondered the tall chap in the parade was Matthew Magee 7 ft 2 and was an assistant private secretary.

I held it together right up to when I saw Emma the pony do a little bow and the corgis. That was too much for me. Also George and Charlotte, so well behaved and singing the national anthem and those pall bearers! they need to be awarded.

Such an emotional day. So much to take in and to try to remember. I too thought Kirsty Young only just managed to hold it together at the end. My tear trigger points - the bearer party, the lone piper(s), the pony and the corgis.

My tear trigger points - the bearer party, the lone piper(s), the pony and the corgis. I was touched by the piper... until I saw the name of the lament he was playing, "Sleep, dearie, sleep" and I broke. My other favorite thing was the meaning behind the flowers in the wreath. Not just that they all came from royal gardens, but rosemary for remembrance, myrtle for a happy marriage and English oak for the strength of love.

Yes, although I think Victoria is buried a short distance away in a mausoleum at Frogmore. Before George III there were various places of burial including Westminster Abbey and various other cathedrals around the country (Gloucester, Winchester, Canterbury etc)

Frogmore Royal Burial Ground. The chapel vault at St George’s was deemed to be becoming too crowded so many coffins were removed and re buried at Frogmore.

I know these things have been planned forever, but I remain in awe of everyone who helped pull off the sheer logistics of such a massive experience with such precision, grace, and decorum. It really is incredible.

I wonder if we'll get a statue in due course. Not sure where'd you put it, perhaps the Olympic Park in Stratford?
Still think we should rename a theatre after the late Queen.

My tear trigger points - the bearer party, the lone piper(s), the pony and the corgis. Those were all sad but the moment that made me cry the most was when the sceptre, orb & crown were removed from the coffin. The ultimate illustration of You Can't Take It With You.

Very true! And some of the reeeeally old Kings and Queens are lost to time and we're not exactly sure where they are!

I wonder if Charles III might have to build a mausoleum for his family because it looks like Windsor Castle is quite full with so many monarchs buried there. The Royal Household is currently restoring Frogmore which is planned to reopen next year so it'll likely for one of the first major event for the new King unless he decides to delegate it to William and Kate.

I was in work, so only saw bits of it unfortunately, but I thought the procession was stunning. Not just for the huge number of marchers, but the amount of guards lining the route as well. Just extraordinary, though I’m going to have that Beethoven funeral march stuck in my head for days now.
I don’t understand the decision to focus on the piper rather than the coffin lowering into the vault. I think that image with the music receding into the distance that would have been really powerful. Instead they cut back and the coffin’s gone. Weird choice.

I think we will get quite a few statues and Elizabeth Squares over the coming years. An online petition is in place for a permanent statue in Trafalgar Square.

I have a vague memory from Phillip’s funeral of hearing that we wouldn’t see the moment the coffin disappeared. So I think perhaps this was intentional both times.

Just my opinion, but I thought the piper walking into the distance was one of my most powerful moments. It was (as I recall) the same moment as Philip’s funeral, so seemed to emphasise how they are reunited. I thought they cut away deliberately as there might be some additional things they have to do - not sure if they then covered the space or left it open for everyone to walk around.

I’ll look for this petition and sign it . Thanks for posting .

I thought they cut away deliberately as there might be some additional things they have to do - not sure if they then covered the space or left it open for everyone to walk around. I think it was deliberate and to avoid covering the family when the coffin did finally disappear. When the camera returned the area where the coffin had been looked just like the floor so it had been covered in. On a separate point I think the numbers who queueed for the lying in state will be revised upwards as looking back to the Queen Mother's lying in state an estimated 200,000 queued then and that was 3 days. I am sure more than 250,000 queued this time.
