Andy Karl in the lead, he has been nominated for two Tony awards (for Rocky and On the Twentieth Century). If this goes to Broadway, is the role, or he, good enough to nab another nomination or even a win?  It's a wonderful ensemble show, and what a glorious ensemble they are, but Andy Karl is absolutely sensational in what is a superbly written role. He's charismatic, he's an asshole, he's funny and witty, he's natural, perfect comic timing and all the rest that you could ask for in a leading man. It's nomination worthy for sure - but a win would be better judged knowing who he would be up against. But it's certainly an award-winning performance in the right circumstances! |

From what I have seen of him on film and audio etc he is hugely talented and picks the perfect roles for himself. In any other season, it seems his performances in the prior nominated shows would be worthy of the win. I am very much looking forward to seeing the show and seeing him tomorrow night. In all honesty, I have never seen the film but he is the reason I am going. I follow a lot of Broadway performers thanks to Broadway.com and he has always been one of the people I have kept my eye on as someone I want to see live. |

Interval and wow, I am really quite shocked how much I am loving it! It is a concept that shouldn't work, the same day everyday, but the music is amazing, Andy Karl is fantastic and the whole staging and design is so inventive and clever! Wow its great! |

From what I hear, it's almost a certainty. I saw DEH pre-Broadway in Washington DC and off-Broadway. I can't disagree with you there about Platt, though my experience seeing Andy Karl (apart from Law & Order!) is "just" Jersey Boys and Rocky. He was a powerhouse in both, and I mostly went back to Jersey Boys to see him out of curiosity. He made a lot of lines funnier and more intense than I'd ever imagined, and I've seen a LOT of guys play Tommy. And Rocky, as flawed as it was, was also incredible, as was he in it. |

Saw the show tonight and thought it was just fantastic. It was so funny (a lot funnier than the movie) but also showed real heart and really explored how deeply that situation could affect you.
This needs a life after The Old Vic run!

Tonight was fantastic! I was actually taken aback by just how damn good it is and Andy Karl deserves alot of attention for his performance, it is just fantastic! The finale had me in awe and evidently the audience loved it too with full stalls and standing ovation from most, especially at the back of the stalls. This needs life after the Old Vic it truly deserves it! Was also lovely to meet Phantom and other Dan tonight! Even switched my seat with the couple next to me so I could chat to other Dan before the shoe haha! Truly blown away with this production tonight, bring on a Cast Recording, it just needs to happen! |

If Matilda is the standard for this show to hit, then it would be unsurprising fail, but what show could reach those dizzy heights? Andy Karl is very good and you can watch him for ever, more impressed the second tie, he has a fine pair of chops, but his acting ability caught me more this time. But who really caught my eye again was the adorable Carlyss Peer and this role will be her breakout role.
But the real highlight for me was meeting both Daniels.
And still no friggin song list in the programme. Grrrrr

I'm guessing Parsley is a negative old nelly, with a massive chip on his shoulder? Right? It is the best new musical in the west end for many, many a year. Reminded me lyrically of Sondheim in terms of density. I really want to listen to it again. I was blown away. Anyone who is passionate about theatre MUST see this. |

Parsley doesn't need me to speak for him, but he and I both rated The Flick and Cuttin' It and we both dissed Richard III. He hated Faith Healer and I liked it. But I appreciate his passion and sometimes he makes me look at something a second time and think 'heh.'

Parsley seems to dislike most - although not all - shows, and seems to take great joy in slating things. That seems to be at least partially because of getting free tickets by being an investor, and so seeing a lot more than most of us do.
Newbies should certainly not rely on Parsley's opinion - it's decidedly not representative, because most people are a lot more discriminating in what they choose to see.
Parsley will declare a show terrible and not worth seeing in advance, then go and see it anyway - occasionally will then admit to having been wrong, but not often.
