I also just caught myself singing 'Doing the No Pants Dance' while making coffee and doing a little dance. (I had clothes on before anyone asks). What happens in Starbucks stays in Starbucks!

Is James still supervising? I can’t see him being happy with that... I think he is but he's not there day-to-day anymore. There was definitely less subversive riffing activity when he was MD.

Totally unrelated to the subject of Sarah Louise, but I definitely think London should get the cast boards that the tour has. A sleek TV screen tilted on its side on wheels. Put one in each entrance hall. With shows like today where lots of standbys and understudies are going on, literally NOBODY will notice the current cast boards. The tour ones are more obviously placed and look cooler in terms of visuals. sadly I think the producers are quite happy that the understudy list isn't obvious.

See I saw it last night and actually really enjoyed it. I loved the West End and 1st touring production so my expectations were rock bottom for this but I was pleasantly surprised. The reason it worked for me is that they didn't try to "do a Hairspray", by which I mean a cheapened, knock off version of the previous tour. This was a new production in its own right. The set is perfectly adequate for the production, and it really isn't that reduced from the last tour. The lighting design was great. I thought the cast were fab! Lucas Rush was brilliant as Lonny. The best thing he could do was to not try and copy Simon Lipkin, I think he really made the role his own. He had the audience eating out of his hand and he actually was really funny. In truth the entire cast were brilliant except perhaps Curly Watts. He was a little bit out of his depth if I'm honest. I'm always front of the queue to criticise a crap show but I do have to defend this one. If you go in expecting the West End show them sure, you're probably going to be disappointed. But go in expecting a fun evening and a show that doesn't take itself too seriously, well you may just have a surprise

And as for when Jonny B comes on stage. Well he'll get a standing ovation from me. Every single time. Fnar. I'm sure he will very much appreciate your warm hand on his entrance.

Just to add, if I do choose to stand, and am in an aisle seat, I always move into the aisle to do so. I think many on here do the same. depends who is sat behind me. Not that I would ever dream of standing just to wind someone up...no of course not *cough*

In my mind it's quite straightforward.
Standing ovation during bows: absolutely fine*
Standing ovation during performance: not okay. If you feel suddenly compelled to leap to your feet for whatever reason (hello Dreamgirls) then fine, but sit straight back down.
*the exception being if you're in front of a wheelchair or someone who can't stand up - this is the occasion that I would hold in my desire to stand, because it wouldn't be fair to stand in front of someone who physically can't stand.

The issue with overcrowding on XC is very much similar to that with Northern Rail over previous years. And it pretty much sums up one of the major flaws with our privatisation system. The government let out the franchise on certain terms, which will include a certain amount of expected growth. This is where the government will fund new trains etc. to cater for said growth. In the case of XC and the previous Northern franchise, very little to no growth was forecast, somewhat absurdly, so any cost of new trains would have to land on the operator rather than the government. So of course there is absolutely zero incentive for the private companies to invest in new trains. Sure, putting on more seats means they may well fill them, but with what it costs to invest in new rolling stock, they'd never get a return over the relatively short (10ish years) life of the franchise. They're more than happy - particularly in CrossCountry's case - to drive the fares to the highest possible point in order to fill the train to standing and maximise revenues. Oh, and of course they'll take their profits and run Anyway, I've totally derailed this thread, shall we get back on track?

I've heard murmurings of an ex-green girl playing the pilot. Whether that plays out as true, we will see. But it would be a dream to see her play it. we've had rumours of two!

Press night and opening night are the same thing. depends - I would class the opening night as the first performance, though the press night is of course the official opening!

I was looking forward to this, but then I saw Scott Paige was cast and I find him so annoying. This is one I shall pass on I think, despite having looked forward to it prior. that's a bit unfair. I find you annoying but I'd still watch you in a show.

Can a mod change the title of the thread now ? Delighted with this news! I adore Charlie and I love this show. It's obviously going in because of the new movie but no complaints from me. technically speaking the thread title is still correct...It's not the Adelphi!

I think what excites me the most about Linzi's casting is the fact that finally BKL have cast the role properly. By this I mean someone of the right age, a trained actress and singer. I know traditionally Mrs Js have been singers who can also act, and this is fine, but I have witnessed some dodgy acting in recent years, so for me someone who can get the acting and all the emotion and nail the singing is perfect casting. Roll on Wimbledon.

I remember Stephanie J. Block bringing the house down with "Get out and stay out" - easily my favorite number in the show. Alison Janney wasn't the strongest singer, but more than made up for it with her acting and comedy skills. I can't see these ladies in London on par with them. I might be getting philosophical here, but I wonder. Looking at Amber Davies' bio, she does have musical theatre training. If she had not been on Love Island and instead, say, done 1-2 smaller-scale musicals, would we celebrate her as an exciting newcomer and be more curious to see what she's like? I know young musical performers like to go on television to boost their profile and earn big money compared to the stage, but I get the sense that being in stuff like Love Island achieves rather the opposite. I'm actually intrigued to see Amber - she trained at Urdang and I believe she turned down a leading role in the Hairspray tour to go on Love Island, so she may well be worthy casting. She sings some of "Helpless" in this clip: And another clip here: www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/news/showbiz-news/amber-davies-sings-kym-marsh-14274313

That’s interesting. I’ve always thought Wicked might do that rather than just close at the AV. I’d actually quite like to see the show in a slightly smaller venue. Which smaller venues could really take all of the set though? The Prince Edward perhaps? That being said I can't see Cameron wanting to give up one of his venues to a show he's not producing. Hopefully all of this is several years off anyway. I would expect the set to be reduced anyway, something like the tour plus the staircases at the side as per London.

Hey gang, I was thinking earlier, and I was pretty sure that by this point each year there's usually been a booking period extension for Wicked. I had a look through old press releases / articles from recent years to see when the previous new booking periods have opened and this is what I found: 2 September 2013 - booking until 1 November 2014 *couldn't find the January / February 2014 extension* 8 September 2014 - booking until 7 November 2015 2 February 2015 - booking until 30 April 2016 7 September 2015 - booking until 5 November 2016 1 February 2016 - booking until 29 April 2017 5 September 2016 - booking until 4 November 2017 24 January 2017 - booking until 26 May 2018 1 September 2017 - booking until 1 December 2018 22 January 2018 - booking until 25 May 2019. Although it does occasionally jump a week either way, by this point every year for the last 5 years there's already been a booking period extension, which means one of three things. It could mean we're soon going to have a new extension with highly inflated prices that we can all grumble about ("£205 for Row F! I remember when it was £60!"), or that Wicked are moving away from the model of selling tickets over a year in advance, or more worryingly that the show is struggling a little and it may not last until next November / December. Whatever the case, you heard it here first they've just extended to November 2019 for Groups, so I suspect the general sale will follow imminently!

Also bear in mind that on a 12 month contract, performers are entitled to 4 weeks holiday as standard. If you've got a cast of 25 (as an example), that means they there are 100 holiday weeks to be taken. With 52 weeks a year you can see how it's rare to get a truly full cast, ensemble and all!

Leaflets for the tour have recently been saying "prior to London" on them, so it appesrs a London run is on the carda. I know some may argue the likes of 9 to 5 did the same, but it is coming to London, just this January rather than following the tour directly. in fairness, the leaflets have said that since day one of the tour.

Thought they would have announced tour news by now to hype it up btw is Cardiff WMC a date and also how long is it staying in each venue thanks 😊 yes Cardiff will be WMC. Intended sit down is 6-8 weeks in each venue, some will be longer, some may be less. The plan AIUI is to only announce one or two venues at a time, following a similar strategy to the way they extend booking in London. The UK venues are going to be interspersed with international dates too.
