Also Jimmy Johnston (Will Parker in NT's Oklahoma) Really? I don't recall. He was either "Tom, Dick or Stanley" in 'Gaston'

So I attended both performances at the Edinburgh Playhouse yesterday and, for all they are worth, here are my thoughts.
La Cage Aux Folles, you may guess by my username, is my favourite show. I saw the west end revival many times, seeing all the Albins, and have been luck to play Jacob in an amateur production, using the original west end costumes. With the Menier production firmly etched on my mind it was difficult not to make comparisons.
First of all the design, set and costumes, for this tour is beautiful. One of the best touring sets I have seen for a while and hard to believe it is a Bill Kenwright production. I particularly loved the detail of the birdcage in the centre of of the false proscenium arch.
Les cagelles are excellent. I did miss though the individual character traits that the Menier Cagelles brought out, I used to particularly love the grumpy cagelle.
I warmed to John Partridge's Albin/Zsa Zsa. He is feisty and statuesque but can also bring out Albin's vulnerability. His drag persona is nearer that seen on the likes of Ru Paul's Drag Race whereas the Menier Zsa Zsas were closer to the female impersonation of the likes of Danny La Rue. I would not be surprised if we see John Partisge as the M.C. in the forthcoming tour of Cabaret and also would love to see him play Frank N' Furter one day.
Adrian Zmed serves well as Georges and sings well bringing great poignancy to Song On The Sand and Look Over There. Dougie Carter as Jean Michel also as a beautiful voice and is reminiscent of a young Michael Xavier.
How lovely it was to see Marti Webb back on stage. She certainly made the most of her small cameo role. It brought back memories of her portrayal of Anna in The King & I.
I very much enjoyed this tour and hope ticket sales pick up. I will certainly be making a few more visits during the Glasgow run.

Albin in 'La Cage Aux Folles' Good shout. I always assumed until now that Zsa Zsa was your birth name... Maybe not then? Edit: OK, you're clearly male. My bad. My spiritual name!

I have always hope that Judi Dench would one day play Frauline Schneider on stage.

After her stint in 'The Halcyon', I would like to see Kara Tointon have a go as Sally Bowles.
As for the Emcee I would love to see Will Young return to the role.

I have seen most of BK's tours of Evita but have to say this is probably the best cast I have seen.
Emma Hatton really transforms through Eva's journey and her vocals are great, although I do miss the higher sections of 'A New Argentina'. At times I thought she looked uncannily like a young Elaine Paige when she took on the role.
Gina Marco's Che is reminiscent of Antonio Banderas. 'High Flying Adored' is so sexy, I was clutching my pearls.
Peron and the mistress were also excellent.
I found some of the direction a bit bland in some places. Also the keyboard sounds felt a bit naff in places, particularly during the introduction of 'Don't Cry For Me Argentina'.

I saw this on Thursday. I was impressed with Joanne Clifton as Millie although she tends to over gesture during her ballads. Sam Barrett sings the role of Jimmy beautifully. One of the biggest applauses of the night was for Jenny Fitzpartick's rendition of 'Only In New York.'
The audience also loved Graham MacDuff as Trevor but for me I felt at times he was milking it a bit too much.
Michelle Collins is definitely the weak link. Her performance comes across as a celeb who has been thrown into a panto with just a day's rehearsal.
For just an 8 piece band the music still sounded quite full. I do suspect there was some click tracking going on.

My partner and I have just been discussing the lack of a theatre museum in both London and New York. Surely these would be popular attractions in the theatre going capitals of the world.
I know there was once was a museum in London which I visited regularly but in hindsight many of the exhibits were related to Victorian theatre and were not interactive. The V&A does have a wonderful theatre section but I think there could be much more.
Imagine exhibits dedicated to long running shows (Mousetrap, Les Mis, Phantom) and the latest blockbusters (Hamilton) as well as back stage info/demonstrations on stage craft. Add into that a cafe with cast albums playing in the background, a shop selling books and show merchandise plus a small performance space. You could have regular talks from industry professionals.
Probably just a pipe dream but I live in hope. If that lottery win ever did come through then I know what I might invest in.

I like Miranda Hart but can not imagine her being able to sing this role properly. Remember her performance on Celebrity Fame Academy?

Saw this last night with no prior knowledge of the show but thoroughly enjoyed it.
The book is flawed and in this version verges on pantomime but the score is great. Frank Wildhorn sure knows how to compose incredible female duets.
Both Kerry Ellis and Natalie McQueen are vocal dynamite. It was lovely to see Dave Willetts having grown up listening to his voice on a number of recordings. And as for Wendi Peters, the woman is comedy gold and deserves to be cast is more musicals, she would be a wonderful Drowsy Chaperone and could see her as Vera Charles if Mame ever gets its long overdue revival.

Elton John and Paul Rudnick are working on the musical adaptation.
I could imagine Donna Murphy as Miranda.

The late selections have been lame...Grease, Oliver!..completely unnecessary. It'll be interesting if they do Mame following Hello, Dolly and Gypsy. That I might look into depending on the cast. Caroline O'Connor would be fab. Would love to see Caroline as Mame but she is busy doing Anastasia on Broadway at present. Loved her performance in Gypsy and her concert she did at the Garrick a few years ago.

After seeing the wanted revivals thread it got me to thinking about shows that have been in the west end that have not yet toured or have not toured for a number of years.
My wish list would be:
A Chorus Line Me & My Girl Les Misérables Sunset Boulevard Martin Guerre Beauty & The Beast Aladdin In The Heights Dreamgirls Gypsy The Woman In White

Did anyone see this documentary on the BBC over Christmas? It is currently on iPlayer. Some interesting interviews.
Can anyone tell me who the singers were that played Tony and Maria? I recognised Debbie Kurup as Anita, Stewart Clarke as Riff and Gemma Sutton as 'Somewhere' girl.

Saw this tonight and loved it. I have owned and loved the Ruthie Henshall recording for many years but this was the first opportunity I have had to see it.
A charming show and I enjoyed all the performances.
