Leicester Curve is announcing its new season live on Facebook/What's On Stage at 19.00. I gather it might contain something of interest.

I hope it's of no interest to me. I'm banning myself from buying theatre tickets for a while.

I hope of no interest because I have no interest in going to Leicester. For a while they had some interesting lineups, i.e. Gypsy with Caroline O'Connor, Water Babies, Finding Neverland.

Michael Harrison is also announcing two new shows today...I wonder if there's any connection.

The late selections have been lame...Grease, Oliver!..completely unnecessary. It'll be interesting if they do Mame following Hello, Dolly and Gypsy. That I might look into depending on the cast. Caroline O'Connor would be fab.

Caroline O'Connor would be fab. Would love to see Caroline as Mame but she is busy doing Anastasia on Broadway at present. Loved her performance in Gypsy and her concert she did at the Garrick a few years ago.

New musical for Christmas and a revival which has had a very starry production recently.

Someone's currently singing Thank You Very Much fromScrooge in the style of Danny Dyer on the live feed, not feeling the love so far.

Apparently going on a National Tour afterwards, co-produced by Curve, RUG, Michael Harrison & David Iam. Some casting will be announced later tonight. Rob Houchen now singing the title song...

Ahh another shoestring production on a yawning huge stage. I'll give it a miss thanks.

Ria was excellent at the Coliseum but as I've already seen her in it I have no real desire to traipse all the way to Leicester to see it again!

I like Curve, really I do and i understand its funding situation but blimey and I don't think I'm the first to say it but it is home to the most unoriginal programming the last couple of years.

Co-production with the Royal Opera of a Ravi Shankar opera?

Intriguing, yes and I'm a fan of Shankar but I was alluding more so to their musical choices. A major tour of Hairspray concludes, they then produce and mount one, a major tour of Legally Blonde concludes, they then produce and mount one .etc. I understand entirely, bankable shows to then fund what little artistic risks they summon up but Grease and Scrooge? Compared with Crucible, for example.

Ok so I am looking forward to Sunset but I am honestly so disappointed with Curve for the past few seasons. I am not knocking curve at all, I am a HUGE supporter of Curve (and the Haymarket!) as they are the theatres I have grown up in. I was also extremely excited when it was announced that Paul was moving on and Nikolai was going to be taking his place as I thought some new blood might liven it up a bit. Boy was I wrong. It just seems to be remount after remount of safe guaranteed shows produced on a budget.
If it is bringing the money in brilliant, the theatre needs it, but please mount something that is taking a little bit of a risk every now and again, make me open that brochure and go "I want to see that!" or even "ooh that looks interesting I will give it a go" rather than "Oh ok, no thanks"
Obviously this is just my opinion, I am not being negative as such, just, stop playing it so safe!
