I would love to see Evita there. I also think Rodgers & Hammerstein's Cinderella would work well there.

I've just had a look through the programme and so far not a lot is grabbing my attention. On my list of shows that I plan to see are the RCS's production of 'Into The Woods' and their 2 original musicals, Ordinary Days (I loved the song Audra McDonald sang from this in her concert) and It Should Have Been You.
I shall wait and see the reviews for further recommendations.

Would there be any possibility that Angels In America might transfer for a limited run?

Like the idea of an online book group on here, but how easy is it to co-ordinate choosing a single book to read and discuss? Didn't mean that we all read the same book. Just an opportunity to share our thoughts on our current/latest reads.

So, as well as being a theatre addict, I am also a bit of a book worm. I like to alternate between fiction and non-fiction and particularly love a theatrical biographies and books about the making of certain shows. My problem is that I buy more book that I usually have time to read.
I thought I would start a theatreboard book group thread in which we can reveal or review our recent reads and share some recommendations for good reads, particularly if they are theatrical.
I have just finished 'New York' by Edward Rutherfurd. This novels chronicles the history of the city through they eyes of a fictitious family dynasty and the people connected to them. Starting with New York's origins as New Amsterdam all the way through to 9/11.
I wanted to learn a bit more about the city before going back in July and this was really interesting way of doing that. There were a number of sections that kept me quite gripped. I see the same author has written a similar book about London which I have added to my long "to read" list.

Not going to any theatre this week but start rehearsals on Tuesday for a production of 'Our House' that I am musical director for.

Just out of today's matinee performance.
The cast are excellent, as is the design.
I am just not a huge fan of the show itself. I have seen it a couple of time previously and while I like some of the songs, I just find the book a bit dull and not very funny.

Saw the matinee today and thoroughly enjoyed it. I adore Laura Pitt Pulford and have followed her career since seeing her in Southwark Playhouse's production of 'Mack And Mabel'. She is brilliant in this as her the supporting cast.
I also would enjoyed hearing the music performed live by the Renaissance consort.

I would be very surprised if this is televised. None of the prior semi staged musicals (My Fair Lady, Fiddler On The Roof) at the proms were. But Kiss Me, Kate was! So fingers crossed; and Oklahoma! would definitely be a family Christmas crowd-pleaser, I'd say. My apologies. I had forgotten about that one.

Saw this last night and was left somewhat underwhelmed. I thought the first tour with Jonathan Wilkes was a much better production.
Jon Robyns, Ray Quinn and Ruth Madoc were the stand out performances. Cassie Compton sounded hoarse and her accent slipped on a number of occasions.
My biggest gripe was the noise of the set being changed. I have never seen a show where there has been that much clattering and banging. The show also had to be stopped just before 'Casualty Of Love' because the motel bed from the previous scene was stuck and would not budge.

I saw the show yesterday, opening night in Edinburgh Playhouse and what a show it was! Before I went to the theatre I've only seen the movie with Barbra and Omar and listened to the London cast album. Never heard about Sheridan Smith (I'm not from UK originally and I don't have a telly). I loved Sheridan's stage presence from the moment she walked on. And it got better with every minute. This was the 7th show I've seen in Playhouse this year and I think it was the best so far. I'm thinking about getting tickets for tomorrow, but I'm not sure I can justify that financially. It was the first time I saw Playhouse this full (it's a barn with 3,000 seats and usually gets sold out for big names like Ricky Gervais and Amy Schummer) and everyone was at their feet during the bows. If you can get a ticket - go and see it! There were offers on itison for the early part of this week. You might get a bargain there.

So yesterday I was lucky enough to meet Audra McDonald outside the Palace Theatre.
Also at Saturday matinee of The Life I spotted Sophie Thompson and Gareth Valentine.

Sorry if this has been asked already. (I had been avoiding this thread until I had seen the plays.)
Does anyone know if they will release an album of the music featured in the play? Some lovely moments I would like to listen to again.

I bumped into Seth in Nine Dials on Friday after seeing the concert on Thursday and asked him if there were any plans to bring Chita Rivera over. He said not at the moment because she is bringing her recent Carnegie Hall concert over in July but it hasn't been announced yet!

Saw this tonight and enjoyed it. It is an interesting piece of musical theatre and is very Tim Burton-esque in style.
The book does not have much in the way of substance/development. It is more of a short story onstage. It would work better in one act, the interval is not necessary and interrupts the flow of the piece.
The score has the same modal folk rock edge of Spring Awakening. Maybe not instantly memorable but interesting none the less.

She definitely deserved to win that Olivier. Julie goes on a very dark journey from Act One to Act Two but with very limited time on stage. Rebecca's performance of 'Bill' was just heartbreaking.

That was just wonderful. I didn't want it to end.
My jaw actually dropped when she sang 'Summertime'.
Other highlight were The Stars & Moon, Glamorous Life, Moment In The Woods, the song from Scottsboro Boys and the song from Ordinary Days.
I will certainly be booking for Lady Day and if ENO have any sense, they should cast her in the lead of their next foray into musical theatre. That voice deserves a symphonic accompaniment.
