Say Yes to Tess at Leeds Playhouse on Friday. Had originally booked for this before the first lockdown as a curiousity (a musical about the Yorkshire Party struck me as sufficiently daft to be worth a punt), so decided to rebook when it showed up again. The guardian gave it 4 stars. It sounds interesting and I'm looking forward to seeing it in London

Why? Is it getting a major revision? By far the Worst musical I've ever seen and there have been some stinkers. I disliked it but it wasn't the car crash that was Stephen Ward. Was it ?

I'd love to see this but very put off by actor musician Fair enough as its not to everyones taste - I enjoy it as it breaks away from naturalism that a lot of musical productions have in spades. After this production I wonder when the next one will come along? No day like today and all that!

I agree with you on lots of points Mark especially on theatres not been dark. Even pre covid I did find the state of West End musicals to be depressing.

Reading what musicals are performing this year reminds me just how depressing the West End currently is

I know generally in the subsidised theatre that runs are quite short to give the piece the best chance of transferring to the West End. However it seems mad to finish this run on 03rd December, I would have thought they would keep the show open until the New Year, it is going to easily sell out and will likely transfer to the West End, so don't understand why they are closing when they are. A transfer isn't guaranteed by any means, just look at Fun Home. I remember a lot of empty seats at Full Monty Dirty Rotten Scoundrels.

I'd love for Southwark's Dog fight and Carrie to return.
I'm also wanting a really scaled down Night Music and Merrily.

A real revival of Aspects of Love. The recent one's with the super "scaled down" (i.e. Cheap) productions and worse yet, orchestrations don't count for me. There was a thread here yesterday, which has since disappeared, about a potential major Andrew Lloyd Webber revival next year. I too would love to see a proper Aspects of Love revival. ALW's older work seems to have fared better with recent revivals than his new productions, so hopefully this would work in the West End. The first man you remember requires some thought for it work in today's climate. It's a great score though and I wouldn't mind a fresh recording of it.

An affordable cinema screening would line the collection plate nicely

I know this is on Spotify, but can't seem to find it on Apple Music. Anyone know if it is currently/or is going to be on there? ASSASSINS is one of my favourite Sondheim's. I also just looked on Apple and couldn't find it I know the cd comes out 18 march. Broadway records have produced it you could contact them about Apple If its any consolation I'm still waiting / hoping for Grindr the opera to come to Spotify

The new Assassins sounds good. I can't wait to get to know it more over the next few days.

Despite the awful music, poor sound balance and too much humour in the 2nd act I really liked this. Top marks from me!

It’s so odd how often you overhear people who don’t have any idea what they’re going to see, and don’t even seem to discus it until they’re in the seat waiting for it to start. My friends do it all the time and after 20 odd years it still grates on me. On the plus side I book for the things I want to see

Are we getting a new production of it? I watched a stream of the Broadway production during lock down. I really liked one song at the end of act 1 but wasn't impressed with the rest. The choreographed set changes really bugged me and dragged the evening out - it's the same director of Hamilton. No, it is NOT the same director as Hamilton. The Band's Visit was directed by David Cromer. Also, if you watched a stream of it, you watched an illegal bootleg. 🤣🤣🤣 Whoops! just realised I watched Bandstand

Has local hero had a rewrite? Or is Evans thinking it is like Sweeney Todd aka works brilliantly in different size houses?

Alarms & Excursions - these playlets are dated, hard to believe that Fryan then went on to write the brilliant Copenhagen not long after. Well acted but I did really feel for them for performing in something that is such a miss fire.
The theatre was sparsely attended.
Its such a great location in a lovley bit of London.
Sad.

I agree with all the raves for performers, play and staff. Ill be visiting again.
My mind was often trying to fit additional sondheim lyrics into the script - the 'joys' of knowing his work inside and out!
