Has anyone here sat front row at this theatre? What's the view like? From the limited images I can find it seems the stage is not raised, is that right? Front row is great. The stage is sometimes raised. I always feel for the people not on row A when it's not raised. The rake kicks in from row e, I think but check with the box office

Having never sat upstairs at the donmar, what is the front row like? it looks quite high in comparison to the stage I much prefer the stalls. The circle is very far forward and you are looking sharply down on the actors

Much as I love the score, this doesn't sound like the right plan for the piece
- I quite agree. I'm not sure if there is that much of a journey or the need for crowd scenes to justify the promenade aspect. Off thr top of my head, Into the woods, Candide and Superstar all seem more suitable to this approach.

So how have they done this sort of thing in the past at The Bridge? Do they take the stalls seats out and extend the stage out with areas for people to stand? I think the stalls are gutted and full of prommers but you can sit on the upper levels. I could be wrong but I sense you get a very different perspective from sitting and standing. I love promenade productions - Bridewell's Sweeney Todd was one of the best things ever. I've got scottish opera's Candide coming up this summer 😀

I'm not clicking on a DM article. If its using Woke as an insult then more fool them. Its origins are varied but mostly are around the abolition of slavery and not being a racist dick. Call me radical but racist theatre ain't for me!

Today, I am packing my rucksack as tomorrow I start walking the entire Thames Path. I'm walking in memory of my partner who died of cancer and all proceeds go to Maggies. If any one want to know more or sponsor below is the link. Many thanks xx www.justgiving.com/fundraising/christian-holt2

Dream ballet aside I generally loved this. Act 2 brilliantly hits you in the stomach.

Well Henry VIII is pretty puerile (gigantic gold inflatable penises, Henry VIII pulling his boxers down and sitting on a toilet onstage, and characters played by giant teddy bears) which would be fine but it seems to have little resemblance to the actual play. Baffled by the writer’s insistence on shoehorning as many famous lines and speeches from other Shakespeare plays as possible, regardless of whether they fit the context or not, as some kind of Shakespeare Greatest Hits. Henry VIII gets famous lines from Hamlet. When Anne Boleyn decides to marry Henry she’s given Benedick’s speech from Much Ado when he discovers Beatrice is in love with him and realises he loves her too. She also has some of Lady Macbeth’s most famous lines. When Katherine of Aragon talks about her stillborn child she’s given Constance’s famous grief speech from King John. Honestly you cannot do this. Those characters are all completely different and in different circumstances. Constance’s grief speech expresses her rage and devastation after her 12 year old son is brutally murdered. That’s a completely different thing to having a stillbirth and Constance and Katherine have very different personalities. Much Ado is a romantic comedy about two people living a pretty frivolous life realising they’re in love with each other. Anne Boleyn is manipulated into a political marriage that ends up killing her. Every time I recognised a famous line from a different play it took me completely out of this play. That's fascinating to read, Im slowly working my way through the canon. A few times during the performance I thought the odd line sounded familiar but as this was my first Henry V111 ... I went in with a sense of trepidation as im finding the histories dull. This was far from it. Loved the bright colours, like an old master with a new lease of life. Lots of cheering during the feminist speeches (and rightly so) and all in all a really good night at the theatre especially with the forthcoming Jubilee.

In the hope of it turning into a staged production, to challenge the brain, they love the part / show / score etc I have studied sociology and I'm no sociologist but I still read about it (plus reading about psychology trains and showtunes stuff)

Just come out of the show, the penultimate performance. Loved it. So great to see the show settle in and the performances mature.
I suspect tonight's show will have an amazing atmosphere - break a leg and thank you so much for finally making this show work.
Xx
Ps please can we have a recording?
