I heard cheering at start of songs at &Juliet .... although this behavior does seem to be more at jukebox musicals where an audience member is trying to show off that they recognize the song. I remember back in the day Stars in their Eyes had what I presume was canned, or artificially instigated enthusiastic clapping after (I think) the second line of the song. It happened every time in the same place, and it did seem intended to signify that the audience was delighted with the choice of song, so the audience at home should be too. The predictability of it became a running joke in our house. Same here. We used to rip the pish out of it. I was particularly keen when it was such a famous song which you know from the first few bars but the audience couldn't clap just yet, just to be sure

The ticket price is my donation. Anything else should be opt-in not opt-out. Agreed. I'm happy to donate but it will be to a small venue like Jermyn St or Southwark Playhouse. I suspect neither will have corporate sponsorship and both have interesting programmes unlike the NT

It looks amazing and I'd love to visit, although I wish they'd prioritised backrests over authenticity. Totally agree. As much as i love theatre I also love not going into traction.

A lot of songs have "buttons" to inform the audience its over and folk should now clap. Although folk now just clap whenever.
Generally, I'm in favour of removing the button and trying to have one continual drama. Also, it means a much shorter performance.

Iain Dale is interviewing the candidates on his LBC show and they’re being released in his All Talk podcast series. It was Penny M last night and she flat out denied the trans thing. I have to say overall though she wasn’t that impressive. She’s flat out denying it left, right and centre, which is particularly hilarious because we have this little thing called Hansard. Not to mention reports on an unimpressive Mumsnet encounter. And the memories of several people in No 10, the HoL and HoC (and even Pink News!). Still, she seems to be getting away with it so far. So are we getting another pinocchio for PM?

Front of the second circle will give you a good view. I often sit there for ballet and dance and love it.

I go alone to 90% of the many shows I see every month. The only time I ever felt a little self-conscious was at Mrs Henderson Presents in my usual (front row stalls) seat. Surrounded by men almost all of a certain age and mostly wearing raincoats on a dry sunny day. I fear the couples and ladies sitting behind us thought the worst of us.... ( re above post I think the Coliseum is poorly signposted internally and I walked round in a circle from the box office before finding the entrance to the stalls) Yes but you know what our British weather can be like. You walk into a theatre and its dry, you come out and its pouring down. Those raincoats come in very handy. 😀 Especially during Singing in the rain

It's the scene which Frank has come back from his cruise and Charlie has bought Frank Jr a toy crocodile - here it is a glove puppet and C&Mary use it a lot. They find it really funny (so did I), Frank didn't as he has moved on to screenplays, luxury lifestyle etc Oh, a toy crocodile is more reasonable. I was thinking of a full-sized stuffed one being wheeled out! It's not a Richard Jones production 🤣

Last nights Merrily at Royal Accedmy was astounding. Even without the crocodile and tap dancing Joe I would have still loved it.
Admittedly I've only seen one production of Merrily, the Menier's, but I'm struggling to think where in the show a crocodile might appear....

Last year I was so emotional to be back hearing a large orchestra that I was crying at anything. Today I had bit more of a grip on things. The cast are all great and the ending is still powerful but yeah I was in tears by the end. @burlybear will be pleased to hear things are slightly reworked and the "Stooges" don't interact as much as previously. AddisonMizner we need badges! I hope they do another musical soon.

I'm not sure if I have a fave but both versions of WSS, Into the woods, Tick Tick Boom and Pirates stand out and are on my loving pile.

The Snoozebox accommodation in shipping containers is across the road. They have a lovely outdoor garden (that anyone can access) with a dj, bar and Indian street food. A bottle of okay wine was £25. I think a curry was around a tenner. It's open before and until 23:00 after. The cheesy disco at Snoozebox is brilliant.

Great read samuelwhiskers. I have seen a few of those productions and liked them. Perhaps because i haven't seen much of those directors other productions. Meanwhile Jones and Mitchell I generally now avoid having previously loved their work but it's all starting to look the same #wallpaper

I loved Austin Butler and the spectacle of it. Although compared to BL's others this is isn't as Wow! But I found the script was greatly lacking in depth. Glad I saw it but for me its not one to shout about.

Thank heavens this wasn't a literal interpretation like the Savoy theatre
I thought CB was great.
Elle may think she is classy but is she?
Loved the contrasting pale tones the Harvard folk wear, dogs, choreography and the diverse cast. All fabulous.
The set missed a trick and the 'fly curtains' should be hot pink - LB the musical does not pretend to be classy and does not deal with with sophisticated themes so the design paid off in spades.
My friends and I all loved it and the audience appeared to also.

The less said about MF's speech and attempt at singing the better.
The casting of the two male leads could of been much stronger, here they gave serviceable performances.
Generally really liked it. Didn't know what to expect from Carrie (as never seen her before and I've read she's the anti Christ) but thought she was great. Also, loved Laura PP.
Thought the person who played Brenda was brilliant.
The show has such an amazing score and I'd love to see another production of it.

Just clocked that Maria F's son is in this. Well, gosh. Nepotism … it’s a beautiful thing If its anything like the MCF concerts she'll tell the audience multiple times that her son is very talented. Nothing wrong with pride but ...

I watched it yesterday. The way they were constantly moving the chairs about on the stage (it felt like there 30+ at one point) got on my nerves, but other than that, it was a pleasant performance. Agrippina was especially gripping. The chairs. Right. That was very old fashioned. In the 1980s there were lots of fringe productions that involved the actors ritually rearranging chairs. Ionesco would be proud! I liked the musical chairs aspect of this production.

Thanks for sharing. Any mention of which version of Dance with the devil and if an audio recording is going going to be commercially available Please and ta! No news of a recording, and I think it’s unlikely (though would love to be proved wrong!) - they did mention that the show has been tweaked, and I assumed this was in addition the many changes made after London. Also ‘a big orchestra’ which is fantastic news! Thanks
