I was going to say that I didn't experience any weird queuing issues, but I did arrive early and went to the downstairs bar, so that's probably why! I know that no one cares, but look! Here's my picture with Audra and Seth!: www.instagram.com/michalnowicki88/?hl=en

zsazsa you are so right... Last night was absolutely amazing. Audra has a fantastic stage presence, she owns it, she commands it. She's like a force of nature. Seth was a great host, he was funny, he was sassy, he was exactly as you see him on YouTube in his Deconstructions. I think that "I will be here" was my favourite song out of the entire night, simply because it's so touching and sad. It looks like they made some child-related changes to the songs that were sung. Will performed Stars from Les Mis and "I am a Pirate King", but they didn't sing the duet. Seth also asked Audra to sing bits of other songs with Billie Holiday voice (like "I dreamed a dream") - hilarious. I will be in London in July to see Angels in America, I will definitely consider getting tickets to see Lady Day.

Mind you, it's still only half the price that my dentist trip this afternoon is going to cost I recently went to a dentist who told me how much I would pay on NHS and how much on private. I then kindly said, that I would pay much less if I go to Poland and do it there. Including plane tickets.

Thanks guys for the good summary of last night. I landed in London an hour ago and I can't wait to see Audra this evening. Could you tell me if they were selling programmes at the venue? No programmes, unfortunately That's a shame. According to box office, during meet and greet she will "sign one item". I was hoping it will be a programme. Oh well, she can sign my ticket

Day going good so well! I've managed to sort out the last arrangements for my early Edinburgh-London flight tomorrow. Plan is: wake up a 4:30 am, go to the airport, buy some haggis for my friend, get to London, get to the London office, off to see my friend, then Audra, then back at my friends for some sleep. Friday I'll work from the London office, get to the airport to get my late flight, get to Edinburgh, wait an hour at the airport for my parents who are flying from Poland to spend Easter with me and my boyf. I'm glad I could share this with you. After writing this post I left work... Without my house keys (which I realised the moment I tried to open the door). Thankfully boyf was home, but I still had to go back to the office to get my keys. Anyway, time to pack, I only have couple of hours before I wake up!

I saw Sister Act in Edinburgh Playhouse and I must say I really enjoyed it! I've never heard of Alexandra Burke before in my life and I definitely didn't go there to see a "celebrity". I went to see it, because I loved the original movie and the Original Recording of the London cast. The show is funny, well put together, Mother Superior was hilarious and very on the point with her quips and jokes. I also liked the set and the fluid changes between the church and club settings. Overall, very fun evening!

My day was amazing, because I managed to get a Day Ticket for Angels in America in July! Will have to switch my diet to baked beans for the next couple of weeks, but I don't mind !

I think that "The origin of love" from "Hedwig..." has some fantastic lyrics about love.

I hope you'll enjoy the concert. I checked with the box office today and they confirmed the Meet and Greet is taking place after the show. There will be a chance to get a photo with Audra and to get "one item" signed.

I was at a conference in London yesterday. Once it finished I decided to walk from Pimlico to King's Cross station. Walking past all the theatres made me really happy! Oh the simple joys of seeing the marquee with a familiar title and thinking: "I will see you one day!".

Just got a VIP ticket for Thursday, 13th April and flights from Edinburgh to London. I looks at this as a "one in the lifetime" situations. I know it will be worth it! (now off to book accommodation!)

Did the rest of audience lap it up emi and reecey? Maybe we're just being dreadfully snooty or something, and we're the odd ones out! I was wondering about the same thing last night. Am I too demanding? Are others less demanding? Maybe I'm just uptight? I'm glad that people liked it though.

Jacob was too much of a cliche panto character and really annoyed me. But what really confused me was when John Partridge (whom I loved in Chicago as Billy Flynn) started to make standup-like jokes at the audience, commenting on what they are wearing (and making references to brands like Primark, Debenhams and Per Una - very Saint-Tropez!). This particular scene dragged mercilessly for me (but the crowd loved it). Oh God, no. Why cant people just stick to the script and stop trying to make it all about them? I dont think anyone else has mentuoned this previously so if its a sign that JP is getting bored already then it doesn't bode well for the rest of the tour. I was really confused. Before I only heard the cast recording with Kelsey Grammer and Douglas Hodge, in which ZaZa just sings the goddamn song! And when he was dragging the scene I was close to heckling "on with the scene!" (I would never do that, I'm a good boy). But my boyfriend asked me "What is he on about? Should that be in the scene?"

I saw La Cage last night in Edinburgh Playhouse. I enjoyed this production, but I feel like there were some things that didn't make sense. But let's start with what I liked. Les Cagelles were really good and made a great impression. I did feel like some of them knew their blocking better than others, but overall they were fab. I liked the set, the club looked like a cage, the transitions between the club, the room, the cafe, etc. were done nicely and smoothly. I loved the voice and the way the actor playing Jean-Michelle was singing. I also like the character of Jacqueline and I thought the actress playing here done a great job (sorry for no names, I'm at work with no programme next to me).
What I didn't like was the inconsistencies between the story and what was actually happening on stage. Georges open the musical by saying that we are in Saint-Tropez, but when we get to ZaZa's room, there is an Edinburgh skyline with Arthur's Seat visible in the distance... Seriously?! I get it, it's a nice nod towards the audience, but for heaven's sake, make the story stick together! And then a line about someone "who is she? An attache to CC Blooms?!" (gay club in Edinburgh).
As for Partridge's and Zmed's performance - I really like Partridge, I think he has a good, strong voice, but for me he sounded too deep, too masculine, and was overusing vibrato. Zmed mixed up his lines couple of times and I cringed when he sang "Something about caring... sharing!.... Something about always"... But he was very good as the emcee of the club - very convincing.
Overall I had a good night (although my boyf was huffing and puffing because of all the people around us woo-ing all the time). 3/5

Sorry to be reactivating the old thread but I've seen he show last night in Edinburgh Playhouse and wanted to share my views.
I didn't see the movie and wasn't familiar with the story before seeing the show
To start with, I was really surprised to see the Playhouse Stalls being so full - it's a big theatre and usually it's not packed. Yesterday, there was a lot of people around me.
I struggled with this show for couple of reasons: English is my second language and I found the Irish accent difficult to understand from the stage so I couldn't follow the jokes and didn't laugh when everyone else did. Because the songs that were sung were "classics" (Marvin Gaye, Aretha Franklin, etc.) the show didn't give me a different vibe to what I get watching Evita, Wicked or any other musical.
I liked the company - actors were really engaged and sung well, but sung on the level of your local band. Nothing breath taking.
Audience did enjoy the show, but there was a lot of movement during the songs (people leaving for the toilet, etc.) and some seats were left empty after the first act.

Tonight I'm seeing The Commitments at Edinburgh Playhouse. Looking forward to it - never saw the movie nor listened to the songs. I might just keep it this way and "surprise" myself (I usually try to listen to the songs before I see a show).

Bit of "old news" but in September 2015 I saw Andrew Lloyd Webber couple of rows in front of me, at one of the previews of "Kinky Boots". At first, I was wondering why this "group of people" left just before the act 1 finished, and came back after the first song on act 2. Then I realised it's ALW. On his way out, he was chatting to Cameron Mackintosh.
I also saw Lesley Odom Jr at Cynthia Erivo's concert in Shoreditch Townhall.

My name is Michal, originally from Poznan, Poland I've been to Poznan in 1991. I felt like I was walking in a black and white film. Welcome to the group. I wouldn't have known what it was like back then, as I was 3 years old You should go now! It's really nice for a weekend city break. Thank you, although I'm more of a forum lurker, I do appreciate a place where people write about things I like (at least my poor partner who doesn't share my love to the theatre doesn't have to listen to me babbling).

I'm back! The second act was really good! I was surprised by Gian Marco's voice! In the first act all his "soft" lines sounded unnaturally squeaky and weird, but when he started belting in Act 2, I thought that he should have played Eva As someone mentioned before the tank-top bit of the "Money kept rolling" - very enjoyable (I'm all for objectification of men!). As for Emma Hatton, she is a good actress and singer and really impressed me in "Rainbow high". That was the first time I watched Evita live and I really enjoyed it. If it's near you, it's worth watching!

This is a quick post from the first half of the first night in Edinburgh Playhouse. First time I am seeing Evita live (after listening to original Broadway cast for ages). I am enjoying it, but I find Che's manierism slightly annoying (nevertheless very handsome man) and I was really disappointed with Emma Hatton speaking parts in 'New Argentina' and singing parts of 'Buenos Aires' octave down. Off to th second act!
