Shall we all guess what was BurlyBeaR's first Drury Lane show? I'm going for the original production of My Fair Lady. Being so much younger, mine was the revival, in 2003. 😁 I can remember it as though it was yesterday. Tickets from the TKTS booth, then a quick McDonald's when it was on the corner of its current home, rather than the side.

I'm afraid some of the gags were first used in autumn 2020. Awks!

To give SeatPlan the benefit of the doubt, the Old Vic does change it's layout quite regularly, so the photo I took at Lungs, for example, wouldn't be much use to someone booking A Christmas Carol.

Shakespeare’s Globe has unveiled its forthcoming summer season for 2024, featuring a number of Shakespeare productions, returning creatives and a brand-new play. This could catch on. Noel Coward plays at the Noel Coward Theatre...Ivor Novello musicals at the Novello...

C'mon ladies, where's your announcement?! It was last Thursday afternoon, in the foyer of Leeds Playhouse.

No, I definitely meant the characters aren't likeable.
I'm pleased Oliver gets his better life, but he's the only one, and at what cost.
Mr Brownlow is one of those people who thinks he can buy everything and everybody, waving his bedsheet sized £5 notes about.
Sorry to be so controversial. It is just a musical, and this is a very good production of it.

Why do characters have to be likeable? Because we spend 2 hours 40 minutes in their company. Just my opinion, of course.

This is a very good production...the problem is it's a very good production of Oliver, which now joins the list of 'classic' musicals I don't need to see ever again. There isn't a single likeable character, even Nancy if we're being honest.
Jenny Fitzpatrick can certainly hold a note. I was a little concerned the roof was going to fall in by the end of 'As Long As He Needs Me'.
This is how Fagin should be played from now on.
The in the round staging really works.
Excellent sound design and mixing. I was central, but almost at the back, and everything was crystal clear.
Leeds Playhouse must have filled its coffers over the last two months. Extra seats, full houses and a small adult cast.
Credit where it's due. The Box Office happily printed me out a paper ticket, and there are still ushers to show you to your seat. They even have torches for latecomers. With a child-friendly 7pm start, there were quite a few, including the mother and son next to me. Shame they didn't arrive closer to the end. I might have enjoyed the show more!!!

So here I am, loitering in the foyer of the Leeds Playhouse.
The matinee of Oliver ended 15 minutes ago and the cast have come out to meet their family and friends.
A young woman, who I'm afraid I don't recognise, has been having a 'private' discussion with her agent.
"I've got you a job you're going to hate me for...Off-stage swing...It's better than it sounds...16 weeks at the Ambassadors.... You'll be covering Rebecca Hyde(?) and whoever replaces Jodie."
If only I had bigger ears!!!

Due entirely to so many positive reviews on TheatreBoard, I'm currently on my way to see Oliver at the not even slightly famous Leeds Playhouse.
It 'only' takes 1 hour 18 minutes on the slow train. ☹️

There's no shortage of talented dancers in the UK, and nowhere near enough work for most of them. Our david being a perfect example!

Does anyone think we might get an actual DVD of the film? Let's hope so, anita. I don't think I've ever mentioned that I've got a small part!

What's good is very good, the rest is just...average.
It can't be Irving Berlin's fault, so the blame must lie with the transfer of the film to stage.
Stuart Neil is still freely sharing his perspiration with anybody and everybody. What he needs is a tour of duty to the Falklands! Wet through, he were, as was anyone sitting further forward than Row G. I was in A1.
I'm not sure it was such a good idea to build the wooden staircase of Columbia Inn right out into the side aisle. I arrived with only a few minutes to spare, so rather than go the long way round and disturb everybody, I decided to vault into my seat. The woman following behind chose to crawl under the stairs, on hands and knees, to reach hers!
Sandra Marvin is a marvel. Grace Mouat's American accent is perfectly credible, despite reports elsewhere to the contrary.
I'm pleased I went, though once was enough. 3 and a half stars.

Despite 12th night being last Friday, tonight I shall be White Christmasing, and gracing the world-famous Crucible Theatre with my presence.

I didn't get beyond the headline in the supermarket, but there's a concerning story in one of today's tabloids. Would explain why one of this year's celebs withdrew.

Money Into Light: The Emerald Forest Diary, by John Boorman, is the best book on film making I think I've ever read.
Long out of print, of course, but second-hand copies are available for next nothing.

Has The Crucible ever been performed at The Crucible? Yes, at least once. I won't lie, I couldn't remember the year. Turns out it was 2004. Some bloke called Douglas Henshall played John Proctor, alongside Amelia Bullmore. Wonder what became of them?

Thank you, n1david. This has become quite the TheatreBoard tradition. Another great year for the world-famous Crucible Theatre, with not one, but two top five places!

On the wireless this morning, the Bishop of Huddersfield said that in Denmark everyone jumps off a chair on the stroke of midnight.
We get a recording of Rick Astley singing his greatest hits!

I'm convinced there's a BBC committee that meets annually in New Broadcasting House to decide which Agatha Christie is next in line to be murdered (pun intended).

The weather outside was frightful so, with a tub of Roses by my side, I snuggled under the duvet and watched this morning's 10.45 'showing'.
So many happy memories of the 9 times I saw the show at Drury Lane (plus once on the big screen). From the first note, under Jae Alexander's direction, to the last, I was grinning from ear to ear...despite the shortcomings in the story and Tom Lister not being quite nasty enough.
If we never see a production on this scale again, at least it's been captured on film for prosperity.
