This is so amazing! I’ve already booked a load of tickets and I’m just waiting on other family members to confirm so I can book more! I’m so happy that Leeds is getting another big revival after Charlie and the Chocolate factory.

So along with Miss Saigon at Sheffield Crucible, that's two shows that Cam Mack is licensing to a regional theatre this year. I find this very interesting - in the past he has kept tight control of the properties for which he holds the rights. Why has he now decided it's time to let other producers have a go at these shows? Whatever the reason, I'm thrilled that we'll get to see new productions of both Oliver! and Miss Saigon.

Both Sheffield and the Watermill have done Oliver! before (by arrangement with Mackintosh I believe) so it’s not the first new regional production since the Drury Lane and UK tour.

Already heading to Leeds in early December to see the rock and roll panto at City Varieties so Oliver at Leeds Playhouse will make for a nice two-show Saturday!

Curve Leicester also did Oliver! in 2015/6.
I guess what is unusual about the timing of this production is that it's well known that Cameron Mackintosh had been planning to remount the Sam Mendes/Rupert Goold/Matthew Bourne production in London. All has has gone quiet on that front so maybe he's lost interest or perhaps casting problems have caused long delays.
Might be nothing but the licensing requirement is that 'by special arrangement with Cameron Mackintosh' should go below the title - whereas here it's above. Might be a mistake - or might be a very special arrangement!

Interesting! My apologies, I wasn’t aware of those previous regional productions.

I think if Mackintosh was to bring it back, it would have most likely have been the Laurence Connor touring version (which of course was heavily based on Mendes/Goold albeit a few differences design-wise).

I know that that plan was for a key member of the original production team (Palladium and Drury Lane) to be the sole director this time around - def not Laurence Connor. However I've no idea what they intended to do about the design though given CML's recent habits it's quite likely to have been some sort of scaled down version rather than the full glorious Anthony Ward set.
Anyway back to Leeds - interesting to find out the creative team and cast.

I'd love to see the Sean Kenny set again. Cameron Mackintosh still has it in storage but I don't think he'll allow anyone to use it.

Now on general sale. I've booked @ £30 a seat in the current front row for a 5pm performance on Wed 6 December. Can get there from Kent via London by coach or train for 5pm, and back by train afterwards, easily and cheaply so very pleased about that.
The matinees mostly start at 1.30, a few at 12.30, evenings at 7pm. There is one other 5pm on Wed 10 January.

Just had an email about Oliver from the Leeds Playhouse. Not sure what to make of this news tbh. I chose our seats to get a good view of the stage set. Now when tickets have been on sale for a few weeks they’ve suddenly decided to create an in the round production (I wonder why? This late in the day) presumably with a similar view from all sides. Had I known (looking at the reconfigured seating and prices) I could have chosen cheaper seats with the same view as the dearer ones I’ve already bought. At least there’s an option to amend my booking .

This production isn't transferring, there's another regional production next summer that will transfer to the West End instead.

I’m assuming it could be the Sheffield summer production then!
Siagon is rumoured to transfer, hopefully to Wembley.
