How’s Michelle’s accent coming along? Any improvement yet? Or is she still just saying “Jermy”. It was OK last night - though her American accent did come in on occasion. She started Work of Art slightly too quickly as well (the band basically stopped except the drums until the chorus when they came back in) - but other than that, she was really good. Very convincing as the mean teacher - loved her in the last scene outside the prom.

Tonight’s show, regular cast, but Matthew Goodgame on as Julian, Philip Bertilio as Pat, Alyn Hawke as Mac/Doc/Thug. Good second row seat with two seats in front free and the same behind. Audience was spread out but loud at the right times. One of the front seats got taken in intermission by an elderly American gentleman. He had a good chat with the guy next to him about the war, how he saw a play when he was a teenager and had always wanted to get back to the theatre to see a big musical production. Just took him a while! Didn’t begrudge him blocking my view in the circumstances. Two funnies: Ashley getting his top hat on very lopsided during Dames. Ryan Gover tripping as he went to fire his gun (but he did recover - and the gun made a sound tonight). Only 11 male ensemble, but Philip joined them for Plenty of Money for the full 12. All the male ensemble were miced really quiet all night and sound quality was a bit mixed. Zac Watts and Freddie Clements got to go up front a lot, Freddie even got the lines in the waiters scene. Charity collection announcement by Bonnie after the bows and before the finale, which she said is happening all week. Ashley Day, Graeme Henderson and Christopher Howell took one of the three main exits each (side exits were unusually closed). The lady next to me was taking to her friend and said she didn’t recognise a single song. Fast standing ovation at the end of another great show! That guy was sat next to me in the first half (he was already front row - just moved further along) - he kept moving around which got a bit annoying so I was grateful when he decided to move for the second act. I did notice Ryan Gover tripping but thought he covered it well - and I also thought the male ensemble sounded tonight. It was nice that Ashley Day has finally been miced properly so we can hear him now. Every time I've seen him, it's been a struggle to hear him over the orchestra - no such problems tonight. Really liked Bonnie Langford as Dorothy, thought her voice was lovely and she certainly acted the part well. The age gap with Philip Bertioli's Pat looked odd (though tbf, only Steph Parry has looked a believable match for his Pat). I think I've only seen Philip in his ensemble track once in all the times I've seen the show, as he always seems to be on for Pat when I see it.

Saw this tonight and was blown away. I won't go into anywhere near as much detail as some, but Jonathan Bailey must get an Olivier Award for this - he was hilarious. Rosalie and Patti must surely be shoe-ins for the award in their categories too. Really enjoyed Mel Giedroyc and Richard Fleeshman in their respective roles as well.

just me who thinks she's really struggling with those high notes? I thought that too - I really liked the performance, but some of the high notes were clearly a struggle.

I can see how it would irritate people and it has been a bit OTT - but I think it's unprofessional to be posting that view on social media where it can clearly be seen by the person it's aimed at. The atmosphere at the Apollo is going to be extremely frosty.

I didn't say everyone! I'm sure a couple on holiday too. There really aren't any bad covers at Kinky Boots, so it'll still be a brilliant show - I once saw a Jersey Boys show where all of the 4 Seasons were covers (with Ben Jennings - now in KB - as Frankie) as the main Seasons were on Ant & Dec - still a great show.

Oh great. Bought someone tickets for this tonight as a present. Although I usually hate it when people moan about understudies or covers being on, I really would have liked them to see at least some of the main cast. I don’t think it’s on to do practically a complete cover run like this. Most shows would run this one afternoon and wouldn’t dream of charging for it. I would imagine some of these absences are through illness - which you can't do anything about.

I'll admit I do have a soft spot for Kevin but even I thought this was an odd choice - do we know if he can sing? Jon Robyns reckons Kevin can sing very well. This could be clever casting - Strictly is a big show, and Kevin Clifton is easily one of the most memorable pro dancers - so he will bring in quite a number of fans I would think.

The cast are not allowed to tell anyone their holiday dates. The understudy was on for Harry earlier on this month for a week.

My concern is the size of the Adelphi - without star casting, I think this will struggle to fill the Adelphi. I am very excited to see this show though.

The Savoy has 150-200 more seats than the theatre it's in on Broadway.

I heard that interview, and a couple of others recently - sounds to me like Matt's extended to the end of the current booking period as that's the date he mentions when asked how long he's in it for.

This is my parents' favourite musical - my dad is a big Meatloaf fan, so I'm not surprised he loved it, but my mum did too.

At the Lion King after Circle of Life, about 10 minutes into the show, the boy behind me turned to his mum and asked 'Is the show finished?'

Wouldn't be surprised if the new Strat is either Benjamin Purkiss (the original alternate Strat) or one of the current alternates - Simon Gordon or Jordan Luke Gage.

I can see it working for jukebox musicals, but I see no need for other musicals to have a singalong performance.

He got more out of Judy Murray for the Christmas Special than Anton did in several weeks on the main show - so he definitely deserves a chance with a celeb on the proper show.

I saw the new cast on Tuesday and was a bit disappointed by Natalie - she sang the songs well, and did the serious bits well, but comedy isn't her thing, it was the first time I haven't laughed once at History of Wrong Guys.

I really enjoyed Loserville, Made In Dagenham and The Girls.
I think Loserville was always intended to be a show that could be performed by schools, and it has been many times - it just didn't quite feel right for the West End.
Made In Dagenham was at too big a theatre - it might have done better at a smaller theatre. It does seem to have done well at regional/amateur level though.
The Girls had 2 problems - the name and the theatre. Had it been called Calendar Girls the Musical - it may well have done better as people are familiar with the Calendar Girls. It also was at the Phoenix, which is not in a great location with limited passing trade. A more centrally located theatre might have seen this one do better.

Anyone know what has happened to the cast recording we were promised in July? Available to download on iTunes (and I presume other places where you download music) as of this morning.

I saw Emily Benjamin as Zahara and she was very good - what's wrong with Christina's performance? I would certainly be intrigued to see Danielle's understudy, of intrigue over anything. Christina's performance, for me personally (I realise I may be in the minority), was kind of, well, embarrassing. All she did was screech and roll about on the floor. It was like watching an 11 year old attempting their way through a school play. I'd be interested to see an understudy for her, to see if its her or just the direction. But to balance out her with Danielle and Sharon, the latter two were fabulous! I'v seen Georgia Carling and her performance was similar to Christina's, so I'm inclined to say it's the direction. As it happens, I have seen Christina twice and she was vocally impressive on both occasions.
