"The Crucible will kick off 2017 with another world première, Everybody's Talking About Jamie - a new musical by Dan Gillespie Sells (lead vocalist of The Feeling) and Tom MacRae (Crash of the Elysium - Manchester International Festival).
Running from 8 – 25 February 2017 and directed by Jonathan Butterell (Into the Woods - Donmar Warehouse), Everybody's Talking About Jamie tells the story of a sixteen-year-old Sheffielder who 'has a secret'." - WoS
I think Jamie's secret is that he's transgender.

I remember Dan talking about this a fair few years ago, it's been a long time coming, I'm glad to see more details.
From memory I think you're right about Jamie.

Feb 2017 A new musical by Dan Gillespie Sells and Tom MacRae From an idea by Jonathan Butterell ‘Out of the darkness, Into the spotlight, A teenage sensation is coming.’ Jamie New is sixteen. He’s from Sheffield. And he has a secret. He doesn’t quite fit in at school. His Dad’s left home. He’s about to sit his GCSEs. The future is terrifying. With his brilliant mum behind him, will Jamie be brave enough to stand up for who he really wants to be? A coming-of-age story with a twist, with catchy new songs by lead singer-songwriter of The Feeling Dan Gillespie Sells and writer Tom MacRae, this brand new musical will have everybody talking about Jamie for years to come.

I might have to see if can get PDR tkts tomorrow before head to work. My no more show tickets has not gone very well recently so really can't spend anymore on a normal ticket so could do with grabbing a dress rehearsal one.

If anyone is aged between 16 and 26, you can get tickets for £5! And it's going to be an amazing show!

My daughter is at uni in Sheffield and unfortunately all the bargains are gone for any nights she can go, but still £20 is a reasonable price (but she's far too tight to cough up!😂).

The £5 tickets still seem to be there for most performances. It won't show up as £5 until you're on the checkout page and have logged in

There was a short piece about this on Look North (Yorkshire) this evening . About 20 minutes in, if you look it up on iPlayer. There's a brief explanation of the real life story behind the show, some glimpses of staging and music, and an interview with Dan Gillespie Sells, who says that he would like to think the show would have further life, but no hint of plans.

I saw this, as well and thought it looked promising. There appears to be some quality performers too, two of which were in The Crucible's 'Assassins'. Will book a Saturday matinee. More than anything, I'm really looking forward to something new up North and hopefully be surprised! I hope they portray the neighbour close to the documentary, who came out with one funniest lines I've heard in a 'fly on the wall' (Unrepeatable!)

I've never watched the documentary, but they do have a close family friend (played by Mina Anwar) who matches this description

As much as I LOVE new work and Flowers From Mrs Harris - do we reallllly need a another musical of this subject matter and men as women?
Billy Elliot Hairspray (weak link) Kinky Boots La Cage
I'm sure there are others! I really look forward to watching it and Sheffield does some amazing work but they theme? I'm not too sure we need another one..
