Very happy to read the rave reviews the Six performance is getting on social media this evening after the mixed reaction to The One Show earlier in the week.
The achievement in music award would have been very much deserved but Come From Away is a worthy winner for best new musical.
The state of the best actor in a musical category compared to Sharon, Rosalie, Adrienne and Kelli though! They should have just not bothered with the men and given two awards for best actress instead!

Despite the late showing, it’s been great to see this on ITV. The lack of adverts in some ad breaks demonstrates ITV is basically making no money showing this but I stand my earlier comments that the BBC should be showing this in full. Is it niche? Sure, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t important - we’re talking world class entertainment awards here.
Anyway, I’m gutted Rosalie didn’t win but not surprised. Patti and Jonathan’s wins were well deserved and their speeches just perfect.
Ian McKellen looked a little pissed off at not winning though...

Missed opportunity to give recognition to the Pinter season! I completely agree. They really should have celebrated that incredible season of plays!
And although Monica Dolan gave a fine performance, I'm disappointed that Cecilia Noble didn't win Best Supporting Actress for Nine Night. That was one of the best comic performances I've ever seen.
I am glad for Company's wins though. That was the show of the year. |

Six clearly is a show that doesn't come across that well on TV. Because that performance really didn't show the show off well at all, especially following Rosalie's incredible performance. Oh really? Coz that made me want to see it, thought the girls were all amazing. Yeah I actually thought it was a really strong performance! |

Utterly, utterly shockingly terrible TV directing on the In Memoriam. Wide shots pulling away from the stage so we can't read the names and focusing on the singer.

Lion King was awful but brilliant compared to Janie, Ruthie and the tuneless Jason Manford. The guy is abysmal. I agree..... every creative in that hall tonight was cringing during that opening trio. |

The difference is the BBC is non-commercial and doesn’t actually need to monitor ratings. We’re talking about an awards show that makes headlines and mean something in the world of entertainment - with a-lister stars in attendance... and now with Royalty handing out awards no less. A licence fee needs to be justified by the BBC at all times, but I’d argue that surely this meets the same criteria as award shows such as the BAFTAs? You might not know or have even seen every film nominated, but it doesn’t detract from audiences watching. Anyway, maybe it will get there. SOLT have really done great things over the last few years to push and promote the Oliviers and their coverage today was very well done - if you wanted to, you could watch the red carpet, listen to the awards live then watch most of it later in the evening. It’d be interesting to see if this got more viewers than the much repeated Gone Girl that BBC2 has on at the same time anyway. |

I do think that someone watching the Olivier performance will have a fair idea if they’ll enjoy the show or not based on what they saw. The style of music is not going to be everyone’s cup of tea. |

Wow that’s a shocker. I saw Tina on Tuesday and thought he was truly dreadful. Couldn’t understand a word he said or sang. Glad to see Kobna win. He was excellent both times I saw ‘Tina’ and made a really menacing Ike. He did have a strong accent (as Ike did) so I guess that’s why you couldn’t understand him. I find it amusing how wildly opinions differ on this board. One person’s Olivier winner is another person’s ‘truly dreadful’. Never a dull moment! |

The BBC moved it from BBC1 to BBC2 in the early 90s and then dropped it completely about ten years later. It's a safe bet they don't want it.

Theatre will always be a niche pastime and will never attract a big audience and surprised ITV even do this, as live filming or quickly edited is very expensive. I have never been to any awards ceremony, or watch anything on television, internet or radio, don’t want to come across as snooty as I am certainly not, but the theatre I want to remember is just that in a theatre, not on some arena stage not designed for the production and a sound rig designed for multiple shows. Yes I check who won what out of curiosity and it might nudge me to see something again. |

After last year's tumult about the in memoriam segment, you'd think they would do a better job. But, the camera is on Ms. Knight (who is wondrous) but you can't see the faces and names of the people being remembered. Sigh. (Maybe they will fix it for the ITV broadcast?) I guess they did not fix it based on Twitter complaints |

I am more referring to the writing than the direction or acting. I am actually just cringing myself re-playing "Welcome To the Rock" in my head. It's as if SNL is doing a parody of musicals.
