I have to imagine that the fact that the broadcast starts at 10:20pm rather than being shown live is a big part of the problem in terms of viewership True but earlier is prime time and, therefore, prime advertising time and the advertisers rule the world. I'm just happy we can watch it at all, although I won't be saying that when I struggle to get up to work in the morning... I'll be turning off the Internet and watching on ITV "as live". It’d do very badly in primetime and also I suspect ITV wouldn’t want to interrupt Victoria and not delay the Durrells either

I've seen that they have a Youtuber, Louise something, interviewing them afterwards, instead of , you know, anybody who would know anything about the theatre. I can only imagine what a hot mess that will be, but OK. Louise Pentalnd, who I actually quite like, but i was so angry about that. Yes we all moan about CHF but at least she knows what's she talking about! I've seen her a few times and she never seems to speak much sense on anything, but she has absolutely nothing to do with the theatre. I can only imagine it'll be a huge disaster, she won't know any of the winners or even anything about the show they were in. Why on Earth was she booked?

But i never recall her even GOING to the theatre! there's a tonne of cool actors who could have done it (Scott Paigely and Dan Buckley have a cool youtube channel where they chat theatre, Geogrie Ashford the same, all of whom could have offered genuine theatre commentary)

Grayson Perry appearing at the Oliviers as the love child of Truly Scrumptious (as seen in ‘Turning Around On A Music Box’) and the Child-Catcher from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. The stuff of nightmares lol Nightmare indeed, i thought Carmen Miranda as painted by Francis Bacon.

This is a debate we have had before. You only have to look across the pond to coverage of the Tonys. There would be no question of it not being on prime time live.

Just tuned in on to Magic in time to catch the tail end of an appalling interview.
Did I miss anything during the 5pm to 6pm hour worth hearing on catch up

From what I've seen of her, and I did watch some of her YT videos a while back when I was ill and fell down a YT rabbit hole, she seems to turn everything into her and a bit of a fuss of herself. I think she sort of thinks of herself as a bit of a Miranda and thinks herself hilarious if it all goes wrong. I follow a girl who talks about books but she often talks about shows she has been to and has expressed interest in plays and musicals.

They shouldn't try and do a Tony's style opening number. We can't do it. As this failed attempt shows.
Keep it simple and classy by being a straight show.

And that right there is why we don't do the show live 😂

Not that it needs a revival, but Janie Dee would be a great Margo in Applause. I liked the snippet of "Welcome to the theatre"

And that right there is why we don't do the show live 😂 That's because they are trying to do things above their means. And in the case of of a few years, chosen hosts that can't host. Though Jason isn't too bad to be fair.

I think Jason Manford does a great job and has been very funny so far tonight.

I've never heard anything from Come From Away, so I don't really know what to expect... I'm only listening on the radio, so maybe visuals help, but... is this what it's like? It's not what I imagined.

Having sat through a fair few of the awards live, that opening number personifies why it’s such a depressing event. They always just get it so wrong.

And that right there is why we don't do the show live 😂 Oh Gosh. I want to listen now, what happened? Jason, Janie Dee and Ruthie Henshall did an opening number and Jason had to stop it part way through because he went out of time with the orchestra and they started the whole thing again.
