There is a bit of a buzz on here on casting - but how popular is this production looking off here?
Also, does it appear that the general interest regarding the show opening in London is based on the success of the film, or the fact that ALW is attached?

Very surprising, as although musicals do seem to dominate Broadway more than the West End, I never realised the gap was so significant. I love diversity in the arts of theatre, and I would hate to see this scenario over here and London lose some of the plays that ignite the city as a global theatrical hub, but I think this reflects why we have a lack of new musicals. It's not that there is a lot less talent here that prevents us development a similar case, but such a scenario consisting of inspiring and revolutionary revivals and new productions, but rather audience's have come to accept and not challenge the trend of long-running musicals that are just transfers of Broadway's commercial hits, and not even the best of the bunch, and that just demonstrates exactly how vulnerable the musical industry of London is at present.

Another interesting one that has just come to mind was when seeing Nell Gywnn in February. But, in this case it was the ushers not the audience. When entering we were told no photography of the set, fair enough then that they told some people off for taking photos. But what was more rude was that an elderly lady was entering row A of the dress circle and lent her coat on the balcony edge (not even leaning over) so that she could sit down and it looked like she was just about to move it as she was sitting down. Yet, the ushers come along marching their orders of how nothing can be leaning over the rail (which it wasn't), and as the woman stated she was picking it up to move it, the ushers walked off and described the lady as a 'deaf, old woman'. I thought this was poor FOH behaviour, and I did complain, as apparently did many people from the audience, about the FOH but didn't hear anything, and it's a shame that if FOH can be so rude, and it may be this in some venues that explains why the audience has such bad manners.

I vaguely remember when I went Rebel just coughed/choked on the cigarette and made some joke out of that - I don't think asthma was mentioned. On a slightly different note, the reason why I think I really enjoyed Rebel is that I must be in the minority who had never heard of Rebel before her casting or seen her in anything prior to Guys and Dolls, so in that way my lack of awareness of Rebel didn't mean I saw Rebel's comedy as Rebel playing Rebel - I guess though the majority of 'casual' punters probably would rather see Rebel play Rebel play Adelaide if they are going to see it just for Rebel.

How well did their previous Phoenix/Aldwych shows do at the box office? I imagine this could be really good in terms of quality, and be especially popular as it ties in timing wise with Strictly, but I don't know how 'mainstream' shows like this are in 1000+ seat theatres that aren't touring venues.

Do we know for sure that it's the matinees Carolyn will be doing? All the articles I've seen just list her as alternate but don't give days. I'd love to see both of them if I can (tbh, I'm more interested in seeing Carolyn than Kerry). Kerry's only doing evenings, matinees at some venues too, so I would guess Carolyn does matinees. Also is Carolyn alternate Alice and playing mad hatter or alternating both roles.

Overheard that she only put an extra 6% in the box office, if the two ushers chatting (indiscreetly) last weekend were accurate. I've had a look at a few seating plans recently and I didn't think it was too bad. I know there were some pretty empty performances a few months ago, but was it really always that empty?

Never heard any of the music to this, so I really wouldn't have an idea what to expect. That said, I'm keen to see Carolyn and Kerry. Suppose I'll do a week evening to see Kerry and then if it's my cup of tea I'll do a Saturday matinee with Carolyn. I would have presumed that Carolyn would do the venues that Kerry isn't. But the website says another casting will be announced - possibility of another star name?

Is Emma on now for all shows? very tempted to go back another time just to catch her. Emma has now permanently taken over. So baring illness/holiday, she will be on as Vanessa. And she is amazing, her voice is insane! Definitely a reason to see it then. I've heard her 'On my own' on YouTube so I'll hopefully see her in this.

More than a year ago now, but when at Gypsy at the Savoy there was a man and partner in dress circle row A complete centre (I was row E centre) and this man and his partner were dressed as if they could be regular theatregoers, they didn't bring in shopping bags like a tourist might. But even for what could be a regular theatregoer I was surprised by the bad behaviour. The couple spent the first twenty minutes mimicking the conductor and waving their hands about. It was blocking my view, and with them being row A I wouldn't be shocked if it was slightly annoying for the actors. It was only when a gentleman behind them appeared to have a stern word they stopped and thankfully were respectful and remained still.

I had the email too. I've not replied since I didn't really understand fully what the call entailed, if there was a bit more info I might have given it a go.

Watched the trailer, and I've never been massively keen to see the show (mainly due to some of the lyrics, like in the trailer, that seem a bit repetitive and boring), but I might give the show a go now it has a new cast. Definitely not up for spending a lot so I'll probably do the todaytix lottery a few times and then if no luck book a cheap upper circle ticket.

Very rarely now I'll book in advance - yes for a press night or a big actor which is almost guaranteed to sell out. More often now I'll either pop to TKTS or get something online last minute in hope of discount. I've never booked in person at a box office on the day, really just because I'm not sure how to approach them with regard to getting a good price.

I've have returned tickets twice. First time for Cats when Nicole was starring. It was a £20 ticket and seetickets refunded me instantly, I suppose they presumed the ticket would sell again. Second time was a standing City of Angels ticket after doing the front row. I'm not sure if I was refunded straight away or it sold first, I returned via phoning, and before the call ended I was told the ticket sold again.

I've given it a go and applied. I doubt I'll be lucky, but then you never know with these things, and especially how many would apply for something like this.

Judging by this though we can except at least one transfer. Unless I'm reading too much into it.

Ah, that makes sense. I kind of wish the prosthetics of the appearance were a bit better though. I thought they were pretty good from mid stalls, you can't exactly remove his nose on the stage as they did with CG in the films I can't remember where I saw a picture, but I'm sure I saw something where the eyes appeared a bit 'alien looking' unlike the films - that said, menacing enough.

It's interesting to hear that they aren't as picky at Harry Potter now. When I went in June the ushers in the balcony were very forceful and aggressive with a no photos policy, actually waiting to see the photos deleated. Maybe it's just a case that in a theatre the size of the palace at full capacity it just can't be policed anymore.

Well if I have understood the references properly... a certain Ms. Carrie Hope Fletcher. [ It's a casting that I hadn't considered, but could definitely work. The only doubt I have with that is that Carrie finishes Chitty in October, I think, and Matilda have a September cast change.

Disfigured as he was is fine. According to the books, he got less human-looking the more Horcruxes he made, and Harry was the last one. It was splitting his soul that ruined his looks, not nearly dying. Ah, that makes sense. I kind of wish the prosthetics of the appearance were a bit better though.

I suspect a certain scrumptious fan girl favourite will be taking over as Miss Honey at cast change... This is casting that firstly I approve of, but also wouldn't be at all surprised by... if true. Who is this?

A question regarding Voldermort's appearance in the play. When Voldermort killed James and Lily should he have been disfigured, as seen in the play and later films, or instead have human appearance, as Tom Riddle, and be lose human appearance upon killing James and Lily and being reborn.

I'm waiting for the inevitable Twitter uproar from the dedicated Potter fans, who missed out on tickets last week and will probably miss the available tickets for next year and those that were for this month and next, as the availability of tickets was not officially announced. I'll be really tempted to jump, and get loads of hate, and say 'you were told tickets would be put online later, if you were so dedicated you should have checked the website off your own back'.
