I don't know how long she's in Hollyoaks for but Rachel Adedeji was a good singer on X-Factor and obviously will get more acting experience in Hollyoaks. And I think she's done a musical or two somewhere along the line. They are bound to kill her off rather swiftly, just to add to her characters families heartache (not that I watch Hollyoaks......)

On the drive home now, and I can say I thoroughly enjoyed this tonight.
The curtain came down at 22:15, so assuming that the first preview went up at 19:30 then some tweaking has occurred to put this at the 2 hour 40 mins including interval (5 mins shaved off for the 25 min interval tonight).
Beautiful music, though I agree that some of Act 1 could be shaved down, but considering it's only the third performance that can be worked on after this run.
Some great songs, and some filler, but you get that in a lot of shows.
I had tears at the end and I wasn't even them but it just hit me, things about the war always hit me with emotion.
The theatre was sold out which really shocked me seeing as this is a completely new and unknown piece.
I really hope it finds a life after this week because I'd love to see if it's tweaked and experience that music again.

I haven't watched the Voice or any of the last few series of X Factor, any takers?

I'll cry for a little bit and then pull myself together and move on. Too many other things that I want to see. If I hadn't just spent £300 for a music festival a couple of weeks back I would have more disposable income to throw at this, but I made my bed and will lie in it.
I should stop talking here or I'll talk myself into it and then spend April hiding from my landlord.

Not really. If it's a question of seeing this or paying rent I think I know what comes first sadly

It's such a short run, and to my knowledge isn't booked to go elsewhere as yet, so I can't see too much tinkering happening in three days.
I'll post my thoughts later.

Not an outrageous price, no, but I like facial expressions in the theatre.
Interesting they have only now released the front row. I wonder if they did initially plan on holding that back for dayseats at a 'reasonable' price, but then decided they could make more money by whacking a pricetag of £100 on it.
It's a shame. I may regret not going in the long run, but I just can't justify such an expense sadly.

Just asked them about "day seats." Not confirmed yet, but the plan is simply to sell a few tickets at full price, if available. So, no discount for waiting in line early, it looks like. Underlining that, row A of the stalls is now on sale at £105 at all performances, online. Well that's me out then. No matter how much I like Sunset, I can't afford full whack, and I am not sitting miles away for the cost of a ticket to something else. Unless this changes in the next week then my Thursday morning dayseat will be spent outside the Wyndhams for People, Places and Things

They could get a virtual unknown to play Dina and really show off their talents. They could put a name into the male parts. If they started (and I know they can't) putting Bev or Alex in this then they could overshadow Amber Riley, who, unless you've watched Glee wouldn't have a clue who she is.

I'm seeing this tonight, so I'll see what I think.
I'm reluctant to read your review through fear of spoiling the show, so I shall do so after. This is coming in over 3 hours? Ouch. It'll have to be good to keep me enthralled for that long, especially if it originally started off as a 70 minute piece a few years ago.

Having a look at the ATG Priority presale and I am not loving the selection of tickets they have on sale. I'll wait until Friday and see if anything better comes up then (or I missed the start of the presale and everyone has already bought up all the good seats).

Glad there is a thread on this.
I saw this last night, going in with absolutely no knowledge of the play at all and was kept gripped for the duration (not an easy task at 3 hours 20).
I couldn't tell if Jeremy was struggling with lines or not last night. Yes there was a bit of stammering getting lines out, but I do that myself in general conversation so to me that worked fine. Though Jeremy was definitely the weak part of the other three leads. But that's not to say I didn't enjoy his performance.
Lesley Manville was simply magnificent. And Billy Howle really impressed me.
I've fallen in love with the Bristol Old Vic (having lived here over 10 years and only making my first visit about a year ago). Keep up the great work BOV.

I know some people tire of the day seat question, but boo sucks to you I'm asking anyway.
Has anyone heard about possible day seats for this? I like Sunset, but not enough to pay over £100 for a seat. Sweeney last year had them so was hoping SB would be the same. I seem to recall seeing that the front row wasn't on sale on the ENO website, so assuming it hasn't been removed it got me hoping. I may have imagined this about the front row however.

I never used to cry, but in recent years I've found myself welling up a lot more often.
All Les Mis deaths I have a well up
I'll Cover You (Reprise) usually sets me off
Not My Fathers Son from Kinky hit me the first time I heard it
Cynthia Erivo singing 12 Children from Dessa Rose right in my face was emotional
The ending of Blood Brothers
The ending of The Father (aware this is a play)
Probably loads I can't think off the top of my head

There's a difference between having an office job getting a sad moment and needing a weep in the toilet for a few minutes and going to work standing in front of a 100+ people and having to perform with nowhere to hide.
Yes it isn't good to express your feelings so openly on social media for all to see, but she's not the only person in the world to do so, just unfortunately she has a lot of people reading what she writes.
I'd rather see an understudy than a woman having an emotional meltdown on stage (unless it's part of the show).
At least if she misses shows at the Menier she's 'letting down' a lot less people than letting down over 1000 in the Savoy.

Booking issue now fixed, and some seats already booked and allocated. Maybe it broke after already being on sale, or they are producer seats based on the odd positions they are booked from.
Upshot is I've booked. Should I listen to the score beforehand or will that ruin the story for me. I'm currently just assuming it's about conjoined twins.

Having just called SP they noticed the issue and are fixing it for me (apparently). I don't know what this will cause for anyone who booked for the Saturday 22nd October matinee.

Tickets never went online so it was by phone (or person only). Yes they did, 15 heart-stopping minutes late. A friend asked me to grab one, and I did, but DM's system isn't a patch on how others cope with "crash booking" days. I shall be blogging about the experience once I've seen a trauma councillor. The phone was no help, BTW, as that just announced "too busy" and cut call off. The choice was side / rear top price dress or loads of upper circle - everything except a few centre seats in rows A to E, really. Surprised it was all at normal prices, too, which was good. Yes I noticed the online tickets after I'd posted on here, and was told by the lady on the phone she didn't expect there would be any left within a few minutes due to how busy it was. I'm preparing myself for a leg ache, but Billy is special so I'll deal with it.

Sadly being a single ticket hunter I was restricted to what I would be sold, but I got myself a seat at the front of the upper. I couldn't justify premium for the dress or top price for the back side of the dress.
Still, I love Billy so am happy to see it a final time in London.

Yes, let's talk about the Olivier noms it received instead. I didn't think it'd be eligible this year, but I don't really understand their rules. It's a pity it was eligible because I don't see it winning anything against the people/shows it's up against. I suppose there's a tiny chance it could get Best Musical since Bend It will have closed and Kinky isn't British, but I think KB has that one in the bag (or maybe ITH will do it as extra promotion for when Hamilton arrives).

I went on a Tuesday matinee a couple of weeks ago and had the full main cast (may have been no understudies at all, but I was UC and didn't see a cast board and was so far away it's hard to make out people if you don't know what they should look like). This was a day when they only had a matinee on Tuesday, so it's not like they'd have to perform twice.

Who needs a bar when G&T in a can are 3 for 2 at Sainburys down the road What about the sound of can-popping though? A can pop and hiss is inaudible before a show with a well timed 'cough' or during a racous applause post song. Never during quiet acting moments dear.

When I went to see the Woman In Black I did a rarity and bought a bag of jelly babies with my programme (they had some offer on and I had a craving), but they gave me a plastic cup as well and told me to empty them into the cup to avoid any rustling packets during the show. Every theatre should do that if they are selling sweets. I don't get why people think it is acceptable to be eating smelly food in the confined area of a theatre, I would never dream of it. Plus every theatre should have a 'latecomers won't be admitted policy', I've had to stand up far too many times, or had my view blocked by people standing in front of me to let latecomers into their row. There's a start time for a reason, stick to it. Also, if you have a seat in the middle of a row, you should have a required sit down time of 10 minutes before curtain up, so I am not up and down like a jack in a box letting you trickle into the row when I am trying to get comfortable before the show. Gah! I was going to say about the sweets in a cup thing. It 'sounds' like a good idea until people start shaking them around to get to the sweets they want. Nothing in wrappers. I swear some people don't know the difference between the cinema and the theatre. 'Those are real people you're watching, not just a projection.' Even then I really feel some people shouldn't be allowed in. Get rid of bars in theatres and replace them with toilets and water fountains. That's all you NEED. Who needs a bar when G&T in a can are 3 for 2 at Sainburys down the road
