The audience needs to be laughing at an actor delivering the lines in character. People will just be laughing (or not as the case may be) at Dr Ranj delivering the lines.
The more I think about it, the more ghastly it seems. I adored the original casts in Mcr and London. No gimmicks or cheap casting needed.

I think suspending him in the air would be too literal and clunky. I got enough of an impression that he was flying by the movements of Larry and the rest of the cast.
Larry is in the chair at the back of the stage near the end. That’s the only time he sits in it.
Looking forward to my third and final visit soon! I’ve listened to the available songs so much and really need a full album!

I didn’t realise he directed Urinetown. Still possibly the worst thing I’ve ever seen in over 30 years of theatregoing! 😆

Ugh. It’s a solid show this, and I didn’t want it to go down the cheap route

Just seen this for the second time tonight. Cover Larry was on, and he was just as good (if not better?!). Carol's mother was off too and oddly covered by someone way younger than Carol so it jarred slightly at first! Stunning, stunning, stunning. Why is this show not selling out every night? I've just booked one final visit before it finishes. Have taken advantage of offers until now but paid full whack for the last time I'll be seeing it. This has quickly become one of my top musicals of all time. It's that good. Saw it tonight as well, made the trip up from London! So happy I did, I loved the Vaudeville concert and it was so great to see it again. Not every production choice fully worked for me but I cried buckets in Act 2 (which I think has been significantly tightened since then) and really hope we get news of its future soon! There are some absolutely spine tingling moments in this score, really fantastic. Wish I’d sat a little further back, I was quite near the front and I think maybe the staging would have worked better for me a little more distance. I also do agree about Carol’s mother being covered by someone so young being jarring, think it did unfortunately take away from the impact of that character. What row were you on? I was C!

...it was the full OG cast in. ... What does "OG" mean? The context suggests "original" them something beginning with "g" that has me stumped. Google says it's "gangsta" which is clearly not right. Chambers offers "own goal"! Opera Ghost?

Saw tonight. Just brilliant!
The second act goes to places I did not expect but the show is all the stronger for it.
I’ll be seeing again!

Wow. Enough positive reviews that this isn’t the bloodbath we predicted. Fascinating stuff.

I saw this yesterday afternoon in Manchester. I'll admit to trying to get out of going. As the time drew nearer, I decided I couldn't face the running time. ATG wouldn't try to sell on my ticket even though the performance was sold out and I offered to lose my money if they couldn't sell it on. I know they're not obliged to do this, but it would have been the decent thing to do, given that they could easily have shifted it, and probably at an inflated price for their own profit! Anyway, I'm glad I didn't manage to get rid of the ticket! The time really went by quickly and in no way did it feel long. Scenes zipped along nicely, the staging was simple but effective, and the acting superb. I won't admit to getting everything (I never do with Shakespeare on a first viewing) but the production is accessible so I followed it well enough. The first act I felt to be stronger, with lots of humour, and battle scenes I found to be thrilling. The second act still didn't drag, though, and has some genuinely moving scenes towards the end. All in all a triumph, and £75 for my front row seat felt well worth it.

How are the £20 side stalls tickets? Is the view really restricted?

I was hoping to see this in April but all the dates I can attend every seat in the theatre is £89.50. Is that the policy? I can’t pay that much or ask the people I’m going with to pay that much. Argh I hate these ticket prices now

I’m being seriously triggered by the spelling in the thread title! Yes, I realised that after and I can't change it! Doh!

Oh come on. Don’t be such a snob. It’s Romeo and Juliet, EVERYBODY did it at school. I’ll wager more than 50% of Brits can quote at least a few lines. It was even adapted as an animated film involving gnomes ffs it’s the single most widely known Shakespeare there is. Exactly. "To be or not to be...", right? Can't wait to see Tom's Hamlet. Scroll up, pal! Beat you to it!

Very optimistic there 😂 I’m pretty sure the vast majority will know its famous To be or not to be speech!

Might I suggest that the queue anguish has undoubtedly been exacerbated by people keeping multiple browsers and devices open? Not that I wouldn’t try the same, of course!

Just back from this. Four outstanding performances and it just floored me. I cried a lot which is not usual for me.
Completely amazing film.

Normalising waving your phone about, singing, etc. during songs. Depressing! This was actively encouraged by the crew on duty! There was literally a woman walking up and down with a clipboard waving her arms about until enough people had taken their phones out! Standing ovations were encouraged too which annoyed me as they’re no longer reserved for the truly special.

Just back from this. Great night! Nicole was being interviewed and I was desperate for her to sing a Sunset song but alas, no!
My personal highlight was seeing Hadestown.

Not seen this yet so can’t comment on who deserves what, but let’s not have this thing where gay actors can only play gay and straight only straight.

Just back from The Lowry. I booked this after becoming obsessed with the soundtrack and as soon as it started I knew something was wrong. I didn’t realise this was a new version of it.
They’ve BUTCHERED it! Whole songs cut. Yorkshire, a glorious track, has been reduced to several repeated choruses dotted throughout the show. The Philip Larkin poem song has gone. Characters have gone. When I looked it up it advertised as having *more songs* this version. WHATTT?!!!
It was an okay evening. Some voices really weren’t great.
Some songs were replaced by clips of dialogue. Then in the songs they kept some of the lyrics were changed to much less funnier lines.
WHY?!
I understand a new version might be pared back a little but this is ridiculous.

Do you need a lottery ticket for each seat? And can you just buy the lottery ticket online now? Sorry for all the qs! I’ve been for the past two years and didn’t need a lottery ticket for anything. Really? So you just buy on Ticketmaster?
