Wow. Enough positive reviews that this isn’t the bloodbath we predicted. Fascinating stuff.

I saw this yesterday afternoon in Manchester. I'll admit to trying to get out of going. As the time drew nearer, I decided I couldn't face the running time. ATG wouldn't try to sell on my ticket even though the performance was sold out and I offered to lose my money if they couldn't sell it on. I know they're not obliged to do this, but it would have been the decent thing to do, given that they could easily have shifted it, and probably at an inflated price for their own profit! Anyway, I'm glad I didn't manage to get rid of the ticket! The time really went by quickly and in no way did it feel long. Scenes zipped along nicely, the staging was simple but effective, and the acting superb. I won't admit to getting everything (I never do with Shakespeare on a first viewing) but the production is accessible so I followed it well enough. The first act I felt to be stronger, with lots of humour, and battle scenes I found to be thrilling. The second act still didn't drag, though, and has some genuinely moving scenes towards the end. All in all a triumph, and £75 for my front row seat felt well worth it.

How are the £20 side stalls tickets? Is the view really restricted?

I was hoping to see this in April but all the dates I can attend every seat in the theatre is £89.50. Is that the policy? I can’t pay that much or ask the people I’m going with to pay that much. Argh I hate these ticket prices now

I’m being seriously triggered by the spelling in the thread title! Yes, I realised that after and I can't change it! Doh!

Scroll up, pal! Beat you to it! Sorry mate - didn't see it! Thought I was being innovative too! 😂 Let’s just say we’re equally innovative with our groundbreaking humour 😂

Oh come on. Don’t be such a snob. It’s Romeo and Juliet, EVERYBODY did it at school. I’ll wager more than 50% of Brits can quote at least a few lines. It was even adapted as an animated film involving gnomes ffs it’s the single most widely known Shakespeare there is. Exactly. "To be or not to be...", right? Can't wait to see Tom's Hamlet. Scroll up, pal! Beat you to it!

Very optimistic there 😂 I’m pretty sure the vast majority will know its famous To be or not to be speech!

Might I suggest that the queue anguish has undoubtedly been exacerbated by people keeping multiple browsers and devices open? Not that I wouldn’t try the same, of course!

Just back from this. Four outstanding performances and it just floored me. I cried a lot which is not usual for me.
Completely amazing film.

I thought they were meant to be stupidly overpriced to support Hope Mill! Really don’t want to lose this theatre

Normalising waving your phone about, singing, etc. during songs. Depressing! This was actively encouraged by the crew on duty! There was literally a woman walking up and down with a clipboard waving her arms about until enough people had taken their phones out! Standing ovations were encouraged too which annoyed me as they’re no longer reserved for the truly special.

The producers must have been rubbing their hands together. Wonderful drama!

Just back from this. Great night! Nicole was being interviewed and I was desperate for her to sing a Sunset song but alas, no!
My personal highlight was seeing Hadestown.

Not seen this yet so can’t comment on who deserves what, but let’s not have this thing where gay actors can only play gay and straight only straight.

Just back from The Lowry. I booked this after becoming obsessed with the soundtrack and as soon as it started I knew something was wrong. I didn’t realise this was a new version of it.
They’ve BUTCHERED it! Whole songs cut. Yorkshire, a glorious track, has been reduced to several repeated choruses dotted throughout the show. The Philip Larkin poem song has gone. Characters have gone. When I looked it up it advertised as having *more songs* this version. WHATTT?!!!
It was an okay evening. Some voices really weren’t great.
Some songs were replaced by clips of dialogue. Then in the songs they kept some of the lyrics were changed to much less funnier lines.
WHY?!
I understand a new version might be pared back a little but this is ridiculous.

Have to say I’m disappointed. The Royal Exchange rarely hits the spot with me nowadays.

Do you need a lottery ticket for each seat? And can you just buy the lottery ticket online now? Sorry for all the qs! I’ve been for the past two years and didn’t need a lottery ticket for anything. Really? So you just buy on Ticketmaster?

When they did the vouchers you had to give the ticket number from a recent lottery ticket. Presume it’s the same. Do you need a lottery ticket for each seat? And can you just buy the lottery ticket online now? Sorry for all the qs!

How does this work? Do you have to provide evidence of a lottery ticket at point of purchase? And how?

How can they justify charging people to see something which they’re now acknowledging is nowhere near fit for the press?

I thought Hamilton audiences would be above this somehow as it’s not the sort of show to attract ‘that crowd’ but alas…
What an embarrassment.
Pathetic that people can’t go to the theatre and just sit there.

If there’s so little plot how can any amount of developing and tweaking help? Other than writing a different play!

Saw tonight in Manchester and it was magnificent. I enjoyed it more than in London, probably because I knew the story better so could relate better to the characters. All the cast are brilliant. And Daniel Boys is an amazing King George.
Tempted to go back but doubt I’ll get as good a deal as I did. Front row end classed as restricted view but it really wasn’t and at £49 a bargain. I believe the same seats are £80+ now.

Tickets aren't exactly flying out. I wonder if they can fill Manchester's Opera House before the run starts? Sir Ian is a huge name, but 4 hours of Shakespeare at an atypical start time might be too much of an ask. We shall see!
