I've done this show twice as an amateur and loved it.
Time for a revival

I can remember seeing a production of 42nd Street in Sunderland. Some idiot had parked his 4x4 across a fire door. Countless announcements were put out in the theatre for its owners to move it. By 7.45 the car was still there. By 7.50 despite more announcements it was still there. So it was towed away. At the interval the cars owners were found in the foyer blasting the poor house manager for having their car towed. The female said the theatre should pay all costs as it was parked okay. At this point the manager produced photos of the car parked in front of the fire door and pointed out it was a hazard. When asked why they had ignored the announcements the female said they were having a drink with friends and didnt hear them! Realising the theatre weren't going to pay, she grabbed her partner and dragged him out yelling at him saying it was all his fault.

I went to see my brother conduct NBT's Hunchback of Notre Dame at Leeds with my dad. We were sat in a box with a good view of my brother and the stage. I told dad not to put anything on the rail in case it got knocked off.
Did he listen? Nope. Minutes into the show he knocked a bag on salted nuts over the edge showering the stalls below. I have to say it was so funny. Thankfully the usherette was understanding.

So pleased. Fab cast. Now I need to find time to get to Bradford. Work wise I am fully booked the entire run of Bradford. Where there's a will theres a way.

To be honest, the west end needs a better cast first. It needs a better Elphaba. The current Glinda is perfect in my opinion. But there will be a cast change before the 10th anniversary anyway. I'm hoping for Rachel Tucker to return for a limited run as Elphaba. Oh I hope not. I'm seeing the show in February.

I think my favourite productio was the first UK tour, with Rebecca Storm and Maurice Clarke (i think thats his name...what ever happened to him?) For some reason, it's the Danish Tour Recording that I listen to most. Mine to. Saw it countless times. Maurice Ckarke singing Anthem was the highlight of the show. Nobody can sing it better.

I know I will get shot down in flames but I cant keep quiet anymore. I have only seen the clips on YouTube etc but I cannot see what is so special about Rachel Tucker. Personally I do not think she is that good a singer. I have seen clips of other Elphaba's who are much better singers. Jusy my opinion.
Now I await the backlash

Mmmm. Sitting waiting for this to start and wondering what the hell I've let myself in for. Never sat in a theatre filled with more women. Oh the noise. That's the one part I am not looking forward to.

I have always wanted to go to the Proms. Well this year I get my wish. My brother, who is MD for English National Ballet is conducting the Strictly Prom on July 23rd. So so excited.
(If I have posted this in the wrong place, or threads like this are not allowed I'm sorry!)

Oooo not a fan at all of her at all
It's a bit too "I'm trying to be the definition of Musical Theatre" for my taste. Didn't like her either. To polished and pushed by her parents.

I've done the show twice as an amateur and loved it. Would love to see a professional version of it. There is only one Harold Hill and that is Robert Preston. Superb.

Very first time I saw Phantom Sarah Brightman and Claire Moore were both off so we had Maria Kesselman as Christine. She was amazing. Seen lots of Christine's but none can compare to her.

The last time I saw the original Miss Saigon at the end of The American Dream Hylton McRae threw a fake American bank note into the audience. I was sat on the front row and caught it. At the stage door he kindly signed it for me.

Countless times in London, Manchester and Edinburgh. Best leads were Valjean David Fawcett (u/s at Manchester), Graham Bickley as Marius, Phillip Quast as Javert, Linzi Hatley as Eponine, Rebecca Storm as Fantine.

Turned over after Midsomer after Sky+it and was very disappointed. It was very flat. None of the leads apart from Rizzo and Patti stood out and there was no connection between any of them. Didnt like the guy playing Danny. No charisma at all. The girl playing Sandy was okay, in bits looking like Olivia Newton John.
Marks out of 10? I'd give it 2.
