Brokeback was great. Mike Faist is such a charismatic actor that I’m glad I got to see him in such an intimate theatre. None of the cast have mics but all did a great job of projecting their voices. Eddi Reader helped to show time passing between scenes by singing some country and western songs. She also had a small part as Jack’s mother. Martin Marquez is a great actor, switching seamlessly from old grumpy cowhand to lovely shopworker. Emily Fairn also did a great job of playing Ennis’ wife who has to come to terms with the fact that her husband loves someone else. I’ve never been to this new theatre before and the legroom in the front row left something to be desired. But the set was amazing, with scenery coming out of every part of the floor and from the ceiling.
I went to the stage door after and Mike Faist was signing but not having selfies because he had his dog in toe. I know he has had selfies with fans after some evening shows though. Eddi Reader made a quick getaway after the matinee too. I know stage door isn’t a guarantee but just wanted to let people know.

Is stalls row C OK or would I be better moving to row E? Worried about seeing the dancing.

When Joe sings “Christ, where am I?” it’s because he’s gone from one empty part of the stage to another.

Michael I believe is being played by a US actor first Myles Frost is playing the role in London for the first few months. Did Myles do 8 shows a week on Broadway? Matinees? Also, does anyone know what day booking opens for Delfont Priority members?

I'd love to see Meryl give it a shot. Something tells me hers would be a Norma for the ages. This is the dream. Nicole S is good but she did “oversing” Reflection at the Coronation Concert just to showcase her voice. When she did act and sing it as written it was beautiful. She has the talent but I hope she focuses on the acting if she is our Norma.

On The One Show Michael made it sound like Jamie won’t sing Love Changes Everything at all in the show.

The news is that Michael is releasing a book about his journey with the show. How the original production made him a star and how he’s now back in it in a different role. It’s out in October.

Yesterday afternoon I saw Pretty Woman the musical in London for the first time. You would think that the standout roles would be the ones played by Julia Roberts and Richard Gere in the hit 1990 film. But, no. Both my mum and I agreed that the standout role was Happy Man/Mr Thompson and more played by Andy Barke.
Happy Man is a tour guide who introduces us to the glamour of Hollywood with the rich, greedy business people in their designer clothes (including the suave Edward Lewis, the role played by Richard Gere in the film). They look down on the street workers, including Vivian Ward (the role played by Julia Roberts in the film).
What follows is a typical rom-com plot that you can guess from the outset. The musical knows it’s never going to be anything other than lighthearted entertainment that you don’t have to think about, and the songs reflect that.
I previously mentioned Andy Barke was the standout with a phenomenal singing voice and excellent comic timing and mannerisms. He transitioned into all of his different characters (including the hotel manager) with ease.
From the moment 6 ft 2 Oliver Tompsett walked on, he cut a perfectly suave figure that made the ladies in the audience swoon. Oliver is a recent addition to the cast and you could tell he was having fun with the role. Singing comes easy to him but the dancing was not his forte. However, he and Aimie were laughing at his attempts and that just made their relationship even more endearing.
Aimie Atkinson draws you into Vivian’s hopes and dreams. She has an insane voice and, at times, you feel like you want a stopwatch to time just how long she’s holding those notes for.
We had understudy Hannah Ducharme as Vivian’s street worker friend Kit and she brought lots of growls and sass to her songs. Alex Charles was adorable as the hotel bell boy and had some great comedy moments with the hotel manager.
The show ends with a rousing rendition of the Roy Orbison song Pretty Woman, which the audience are encouraged to join in with. Like I said, this is a fun show and one to watch when you don’t really feel like thinking but just want a laugh and a good time.

So this will be running in London at the same time as Jennifer Saunders is starring in the Peter Pan panto at the Palladium. Surely Dawn French and Joanna Lumley need to be guest narrators in this.

I’m supposed to be seeing it in Liverpool. Hoping for Jodie Prenger, but I expect it’ll be CRH. I’m hoping it will be Elaine C Smith but I can’t see it happening sadly.

I wonder if Melody Thornton is playing Faye Treadwell on the tour; as she finishes in The Bodyguard in July and this tour starts in September.

More likely a cast member being committed to another show on the Friday. (Purely speculation).
However, I also just noticed that Soophia Foroughi is billed as alternate Giulietta, so I wonder which shows Danielle is not doing.

I don’t believe they would know of a technical reason to delay the show at this early stage. I don’t believe that is the actual reason.

I didn’t realise it was two rows that they added at the front of the stalls. I moved from row B to row A but it is AA that is actually the front row. So I exchanged my tickets for nothing.

The Broadway production will have celebrity guest stars. Not sure if the London production will or not.
Neil Patrick Harris will return to Broadway this month for a limited run in Peter Pan Goes Wrong. Harris will be in the show April 11-30 taking on the role of Francis, the narrator. Harris will not perform on Friday, April 21 or Saturday, April 22 (matinee).
Harris is the first performer to take on this special guest start slot; future guests will be announced at a later date. In the BBC’s screen adaptation of the comedy, David Suchet took on the role.
