I was beiginning to think that BurlyBeaR wasn't going to re-open the Wicked thread & we'd have to wait till the meet up to chat about the show again!

That's a great shout as a reminder! They have definitely done that at past cast changes... Thank god I wasn't imagining things! I was worrying that some poor sod would be reading this and panicking all of a sudden hahaha! Can you imagine queuing for a friend?! "Sorry mate, it was one ticket only. See you in the pub after the show?!" 😂

Correct me please if I am wrong guys, didn't I read or hear somewhere that on a cast change at Wicked you can only buy one dayseat per person rather than the usual two? I thought I read or heard that somewhere?
Please do clarify though, because I don't want anyone to panic if they are reading this and planning on getting two haha! That's a great shout as a reminder! They have definitely done that at past cast changes...

Is there any chance I'd still be able to get day seats if I get there at 5AM or will there be too many people by then? For the last Tucker cast-change people were queuing over night.... not sure whether he queue would have been full before Saturday morning or not!? Does shady23 know?!

I love that this person who so publicly claims to not be a fan of Ms Tucker and who was only at the show yesterday to see Carinna, felt the need to pose for a photo with Rachel and put it on Twitter "so good to see these two together...."

The whole riff thing is interesting... I love a belter & an Elphie who can pin me to my seat with power - but that in my eyes is different to a riff.
You can have the power and still sing to the score, thinking about it is probably why NDJ & Willemijn are some of my favourites! They're strong belters in the upper register but aren't as "flashy" as say a Jen Dinoi or Jackie Hughes - both the latter have power and play with the score which works for me.
Then there are the Elphie's that don't have power and can't riff. Sadly London has had a few.......

HAHA! Don't worry, I'll make sure to scream the loudest Considering you don't even like Rachel that's so ironic, but please do. Paul don't encourage him... AliceFearnFan2212 please don't feel the need to scream on our account.

One of the male ensemble members (I think James Darch who I mentioned yesterday) was wearing a skirt during TWAI/WITF... does this usually happen? It stood out for me a little as I've never noticed before. Yes, I've noticed that in a few bootlegs of the Broadway production as well. It does seem to be normal for some strange reason. There will be others that can comment more accurately but I think you're referring to Joseph Fetcher's track, twirling to open One Short Day but wears a skirt as an ensemble member.

That would make a lot of sense! I saw it in Cardiff and it didn't feel too different to Salford, yet Bristol felt a lot more intimate which I really enjoyed. But for me I much prefer large modern scale buildings (a little bit of a secret architecture nerd!) and that's why I wasn't so enamoured with Bristol...
@aidoon123 I'm sure you'll love Bristol there's such a good student vibe about the city!

Hi @aidoon123 I saw it a few times in Bristol.
If you like old style quaint theatres then the Hippodrome will please you... it's been refurb'd but it still feels old, small seats with not the best legroom. I sat frontrow for one trip and you can see into the pit, it's quite distracting (I thought!) seeing the top half of the conductor - interesting to start with seeing the show conducted but when she kept sitting down during the dialogue & then standing again it was tad annoying (obviously only an issue if you sit front couple of rows!)
It's a much more intimate theatre so don't expect the grandeur of say Apollo Victoria or even Salford (not sure if you caught the last tour there?!). Possible even smaller than Bradford......
Bristol itself is a glorious city I worked there for 9 years and there's so much to do and see in the day and good range of eateries!

Just seen this and it was so my type of film!
I started smiling at the opening number and didn't really stop all the way. I love whimsy and heart-warming and it certainly gave me that in buckets. I'm a sucker for a happy ending and so glad we had the montage in the final moments... loved Emma Stone & Ryan Gosling and I'm still whistling the main tune now I'm home...
When it finished I thought there was lots that could lend itself to a stage show but as an earlier poster said, part of the charm of the story were the montages and they just wouldn't work I don't think on stage.
Overall it was a thumbs up from me and also the girl sitting next to me - she cried happiness and sadness all the way through!

Has there ever been a show that's run simultaneously in two different West End theatres? I could feel it happening with Harry Potter, so maybe you could direct the revival at the Dominion that runs alongside the original at the Apollo Victoria It must be very rare for that to happen! but I'm game, I would be a fabulous director for the revival! Bagsy running the fifth cover Midwife fan account before shady23 calls it! 😂

Well in the spirit of contributing our personal discoveries of Wicked, my first exposure was hearing snippets of the OCR and not really feeling it and being quite cynical of the concept in general but some good friends recommended going to actually see it and I saw Louise Dearman as Elphaba for the first time. Firsts always stick with you but I loved her acting and how she communicated it in her vocal. Seeing the songs in context made sense of them and I was blown away by the message of the show, in as that I took a particular meaning from it about honesty with oneself and acceptance. I had a difficult year of thinking about personal issues during which things were beginning to crystallise a thought that had been pushed to the back of my mind for most of my life... Flash forward to one day when I decided I needed cheering up and dayseated for a performance of Willemijn's. Front row and centre, on my own (thanks ticket booth for allowing that). And well it was a breakthrough for me. The strength of her vocal was of course amazing. Maybe it was that, maybe it was being up close, maybe it was just listening to the words properly this time but I was in bits the whole show. Floods of tears. But Defying Gravity in particular. I left the theatre knowing I had to do two things. One: get back on stage, so I began taking acting lessons again and joined a local theatre group eventually performing in a small show. Two: admit to myself something I'd known all along - that I was trans - and begin seeing someone about that, which I did. I signed my name change papers this week. Not that I'm putting this on her performance you understand (god can you imagine? XD ) Obviously this goes back years. But the lyrics of the show spoke to me that day, it was time to stop letting wishing wound the heart and start flying free. That means something different to everyone but to me it meant that and I have never heard it delivered so well. Apologies if this is a bit of a diversion too far but yeah. I've seen the show a few more times outside that - Kerry, Rachel... Loved how each performer has in subtle ways made it their own. I do hope that with the release of the movie it reinvigorates the excitement for the show outside its immediate fan base. I can't imagine it won't. And yes I'd love to see Sam Barks in the role, have done ever since I first saw her perform. Thank you for sharing your story of the show and how it impacted so positively on you! The thing I love about the story is no matter your own personal circumstances, people always seem take something from it about acceptance of ourselves as well as of others!

I agree with danieljohnson14 that I've not gone to say I've been so many times, but gone when I can and am excited about the casting. My 21 trips are mostly to see new witches, I endured a 3rd Emma show so that I could see Sophie Linder-Lee when I was in London for work. The only time I got borderline crazy was seeing the last three shows in Bradford but I had a) travelled all the way from Cardiff which seemed crazy to only see it once and b) massively in love with Jackie that as a one-off I was happy to! I'm lucky to have seen every lead green witch since Alexia (albeit Kerry & Rachel were on their 2nd runs!).

I've only seen it three times so got nothing on most of you guys! Listening to recordings of Willemijn's first run was what got me back into musical theatre and I was desperate to see her but never got the chance. First time I saw it was on the 8th Nov 2014 which was Jenny DiNoia's No-fly performance. Still one of the most incredible vocal performances of Defying Gravity I've heard. Saw it a couple of months later with Jenny again and then didn't see it again until a couple of weeks back with Rachel. I'd listened to audios of Rachel, but in the flesh she is absolutely incredible and I don't think I've ever experienced something like that before in a theatre. You've only seen the show three times and one of those was a No-Fly? Every Wicked fan girl hates you right now.... it's like a badge of honour that we all want to collect.... no-fly, witch-switch etc etc!

martello736 I think you're right, it would make sense that the new UK tour is effectively "year two" for the International tour, but it would be logicial that like the original tour a number of the cast will stay on! Will be interesting if we get a cast change when it comes back to UK (or perhaps when it leaves Asia before going to Istanbul (if the Jackie to London suggestion has any truth...) Thinking of understudies though I don't think it's ever been tweeted that Fiyero or Morrible have had an understudy show? Bradley and Kim seem to be so consistent I wonder if some of the understudies may stay or transfer into London?

In my head, at the time, the Finale was a ghost Elphaba singing to Glinda. 😂 Had you seen Les Mis at this point or were you channeling Claude-Michel Schönberg in some spooky way?!

My introduction to the show was during a trip to LA for a friend's wedding, she was hooked on this new show & made me listen to the OCR - I remember not really understanding what was happening and when I got to "Something Bad" turned it off moaning about a singing goat... I will forever hate 23 year old me because if I'd loved it after first listening we would have seen it while we were in LA!
Fast forward to I'd Do Anything, I loved the show and started singing Defying Gravity after Sam Barks sang it, the same friend laughed at me and we made the connection that it was the anthem for the show I'd scoffed at before... she made me listening to the OCR and hearing Idina sing DG on loop made me fall in love with the show.
I saw it live for the 1st time in 2008 with Alexia and Dianne and saw it 4 times in total the same year being totally hooked!
Now I'm on 22 shows (23 next weekend....) and still listen to the OCR as well as try to consume as much about the show as I can. I only wish I lived closer to London to get along more often!

Cast someone new and fresh. Please. Someone who has never played Elphaba before - same for Glinda. Give someone new a chance to make the part their own. Rachel John, Sabrina Aloueche, Rachael Wooding, Sam Barks, Danielle Hope, Amanda Coutts, Lauren Samuels - to just name a few. There is so much exciting talent out there that it is simply beyond my understanding how anyone could be wanting former cast members back. I would have to agree with this. New (elpha)bahs please! I agree too and would love some brand new leads, it's been great catching Standby shows to see new takes on the role. I just think we're not that lucky so my suggestion seems logical....
