Lol what sh*t news.
Helen Woolf & Kim Ismay - two of the finest actors to play those roles, it will be worth going to see them.
Nikki Bentley - meh. Was thoroughly uninspired when I saw her on the tour.
Idriss Kargbo returns as Boq??? Worst Boq I’ve ever seen, fancied Fieyro more than Glinda.
Lovely to get a new Glinda Standby and a new Glinda/Elphaba understudy. And nice to see Stuart Mciver and James Titchener join from the tour ensembles.
Meh to the rest.

if it's not a secret then it's not widely known... I can think of a few who haven't bee around recently, but can't I see why any of them have been banned. You and me both. Can’t understand the decision to ban someone and when asked for a reason I got told ‘we don’t discuss mod decisions’. Others have then left in solidarity and others actively now avoiding the board. A shame as the characters are (were) part of the heart of the board having also been around since the old board existed!

I’ve only seen this a handful of times in the Lee Mead era so forgive if I get this wrong, but isn’t it feasible for Sheridan to sing those parts but have the ensemble act out the story?
So someone can be dressed as Mrs P as she entices Jospeh to bed whilst Sheridan sings “come and lie with me, love!”
I’m thinking ala Wicked (sorry!) in the opening where Glinda narrates the story whilst two of the ensemble dance as the young wizard and witches mother?

Looks like Alistair is at a photo shoot today so expect cast announcement next week perhaps if they’re having photos done?!

I think half of the tour cast will be coming in and I'm happy with that! If/when that happens I’ll be very excited to shake the London lot up, I just don’t think the West End cast have the sparkle that the tour did.

All this from a 40 word snippet in the corner of the Metro? It's nothing more than a rumour, and even if it is true, you have no idea how it has come about or what has been agreed between the actors involved. Lucie has not been stunt cast. She has been cast; as a jobbing actor, and given no preference or deference over anyone else. Pretty sure those involved have known for a while so aren’t sat in their dressing rooms crying about it. Getting outraged on someone else's behalf unlikely to be necessary in this case. Until we know that anything is actually happening with Ashley I think it needs taking with a pinch of salt. I never said Lucie was stunt cast. I’m saying if they’re replacing Laura for a ‘celeb’ then there’s no reason they won’t do the same to Lucie if sales don’t pick up. I’ve seen enough comments from various sources today that suggest the Ashley/Laura swap is happening but guess we’ll see tomorrow.

Why anyone would want to work for such a deceitful producer/company is beyond me. How must it feel for people going into work now, knowing that if someone ‘bigger’ comes along they’ll drop you like a rock?? Really feel for everyone involved in this sorry mess and hope they don’t decide to stunt cast other Jenna if/when Amber leaves 9-5 and drop Lucie! All this from a 40 word snippet in the corner of the Metro? It's nothing more than a rumour, and even if it is true, you have no idea how it has come about or what has been agreed between the actors involved. Perhaps. But it’s no secret the show is struggling you’ve only got to look at availability for the next few weeks to see that. Bringing in a name from Strictly smacks of stunt casting and if Laura has asked to leave then I’ll hold my hands up and apologise. Add to that an understudy for the lead who would rightly expect to cover cast holidays then finds out that she’s not covering and the ‘yet to be announced’ lead is likely to be going on tonight? I might be wrong but none of this strikes me as good production management!

I feel quite bad for the cast. They have a 6.30pm show on Friday, and then another one at 8pm up here. That’s no different to London though, Thursday matinee is 6pm then evening show afterwards.

The Wales Millennium Centre is similar to the Mayflower so will be a huge venue to fill compared to the New Theatre that would traditionally take a show of this size, or even the more regional Sherman Theatre.
It’s only there for 5 days so I think they’ve probably reached a sensible balance of a big venue for a limited run. This will have a low cost base so if they can fill half the WMC that’s the same as a sell out of the New Theatre so anything above that is a bonus! Atmosphere might be different if it’s only half full but financially seems a low risk strategy....

The more I think about the end....
{Spoiler - click to view} The way they killed her off made her vulnerable and she died a victim, it’s the complete opposite of her character throughout the series so actually it’s not a bad way for her to have gone!

Let's be honest here... Elphaba is really ALL about the sing and Nikki Bentley can blow the roof off when she sings those songs! I would have to disagree! Elphaba is about so much more than the sing for me, a well acted and well sounding Elphaba is everything! I’m sorry but outside of the big 3 numbers I found Nikki very average IMO, and I saw her 3 times to give her a fair chance. Each to their own though, she can sing the sh*t out of the big 3! Can’t take that away from her, and she may have changed her portrayal if she joins London so will give her a fair chance! I have to agree. I waited all tour to see Nikki in three locations and finally caught a show in Manchester - very underwhelming. Nikki has an amazing voice but I just didn’t connect with her Elphaba. It might be seeing Nikki compared to Amy who just ‘was’ Elphaba, her acting choices were outstanding. I don’t see Nikki as a lead personally and I won’t be rushing to London to see her, there are other Elphabi who act/sing and have the right balance between the two.

Regardless of individual view on talent, if Nikki gets it over Laura that’s gotta be a kick in the teeth promoting one Standby over the other.

If they follow a similar staging we can see how they’ll upscale from the Arts to the Mayflower on tour..... how they sell that many seats each night is a different matter but the show looks great on that scale!

Michael McCabe’s speech when the tour closed in January suggested that was it. The 1st UK tour, international and then 2nd UK tour were all planned as one continuous tour and there wasn’t any suggestion of another. When the 1st tour closed he said in as many words that they’d be back on tour again.
It wouldn’t make sense to go back out after such a recent run I can’t see them scaling back any further, the UK tour mirrors the 2nd National tour in the US.

So if we had a magic wand who else from the tour cast would we like to come in? My faves are James, Ben and Luke Imagine Luke and Tom in the same cast! The Wicked twins! It would be such a unique selling point. Another vote for Ben and James plus Jack as Chistery. I’d love all the female swings to transfer in but can’t see any of them doing it having been on tour for two years. Also Emily Olive Boyd is my favourite ensemble member as ShenShen! Kim Ismay deserves a chance to do her Morrible in the West End but again not sure I can see it happening now.

Ok I’m putting a stake in the ground...
Elphaba - Laura Pick Glinda - Helen Woolf Standby Elphaba - Amy Webb Standby Glinda - Charli Bapti (Mat cover for Carina)
I’ve no insider knowledge but the lack of any credible rumours since the Lucie one makes me think it’s mainly transfer of tour people (which will make me very happy!)

Who's playing Glinda this week with Sophie off? Samantha Thomas is on tonight and Maggie Lynn is on for Nessa, so assuming Rosa is standing-by as Glinda.

There’s one American green girl who’s been hinting quite heavily, and if you look the clues are all there... Every American green girl could say they’d love to come to the West End!

I wonder if this American green witch will be doing a British accent or sticking to American like Jenny did. Looking forward to the official announcement!!! (There’s already a press release if you google hard enough, but as stated I don’t want to get anyone to not receive a role) It’s no worse a rumour than any others... [checks internet for all subversive Elphabi activity since Kennedy Caughell took over as 1st u/s on the 2nd American tour]

I’m not going to be one of those people who pretend to be in the know (because I’m not!) but someone I know, knows someone, who knows someone etc etc and they correctly called Alistair Brammer’s casting... Well those same people have poured water on the Lucie Jones rumour so think y’all better get used to the idea of a Standby being bumped up as I’m not aware of any other gossip about a new-to-role actress. You just have been! The two names I heard attached to the final two were both new to the role. I’m not saying it for any sort of reflected glory or ‘props’. Just sharing the news as vaguely as I can so as not to get anyone in trouble, risk the role being taken away or the announcement leaked. I am happy to be wrong, as stuff changes all the time, but I’m not up for dragging people who share stuff in good faith. Ummm I’ve not dragged anyone, I’ve named no names or criticised anyone, I just pointed out that the same person who I believe confirmed Alastair has now said it’s not likely to be Lucie.

The Broadway production apparently ran out of Elphabas either last week or two weeks ago because they had to call Jennifer Dinoia to save the day and go on for a performance or two. It’s really rare for an understudy to go on due to Equity rules so if the Standby is on holiday for more than a week they’ll usually bring someone back rather than do what we do in the UK and let the u/s go on!
