How does this theatre survive? They haven’t had a hit in years It’s in a awful location I doubt most of the local populace go there Every time the close for a refurb They open to ever diminishing audiences It’s just pathetic When I have been recently it wasn’t even 40% full If you compare to similar venues In terms of budget pricing and capacity Somewhere like Tricycle Has much more profile and succcess The Bush lives on old legacies Nothing to shout home about under the crappy new regime Have you had your tablet today yet, dear? Make sure you eat something first. There's a good boy Much love

Apparently David Hare says people at tube stations approach him and tell him that this is their favourite play of his. This seems slightly improbable- does anyone ever approach anyone else on the tube?! Oh I don't know about that (I didn't know he wrote plays to be honest) but I thought he was marvellously funny in 'The Thin Blue Line' with Rowan Atkinson. He was very good in 'Rosie & Jim Are Dead' at the Old Vic recently too. Oh, you are silly! But Haig does write plays as well as Hare.

It is NEVER going to happen people. STOP. Bette is on 150,000k a week and also on ten percent. The maths for ticket prices in the West End unless they charge 300 pounds a ticket do not work out. Plus she’s been in it in broadway for a long time. Gig is done. She can do concerts and get a months pay in one night. NEVER HAPPENING. Exactly. There's that, and the stink in this rumor (I honestly don't think it's a rumor as much as someone just pulling this out of their ass) is that you'd need to seriously scale up the production if this were to happen at the Palladium. The Shubert is a much smaller stage and theatre than the huge Palladium. With just over 1400 seats, they'd have to worry about selling additional 800 seats at the Palladium and scale up the sets, re-stage and re-choreography. And while Londoners would like Midler, these star vehicles don't work as much in London as they do in New York (sans shows with Sheridan Smith, go figure). I'd just like to personally make a point that I definitely did not "pull this out of my ass", I heard from it somebody in the biz. Now whether they, or the person that they got it from did, I cannot possibly say. What I can say is that the tone of this chat needs to come down a couple of notches & people need to stop being so bloody outraged that it was even suggested for a second that the hottest ticket on Broadway might find its way to the West End. It's not the strangest suggestion that we've ever mulled over. Now, let's chill & dream of Bette.

Well this is all very friendly... I know! I'm glad I didn't bring it up at the Xmas social, I'd have been glassed in the face with a broken bottle of Port!

They're contacting the wrong person, then. I just checked at Tams-Witmark who hold the rights. They're available. Move along, now.. Curse my dodgy sources! Btw, are you always this fun?

Well that's exciting. I work at the Palladium so I can't wait! You should ask them next time you're in!

She's also doing MAME on Broadway at some point! I'm not sure there's any truth to the Mame rumor. I haven't heard anything about this, and as the collector of receipts, let me just remind you that Act I ends in a plantation, of all places and chorus goes, "make the south great again...Mame". Yeah. That ain't happening without some serious rewrites. Well, we all love a bit of tongue in cheek, don't we? It could be the new Book of Mormon. I heard it was the reason the rights were currently unavailable. I think @ryan is producing.

Oh my GOD. This has to happen. But I thought Chenoweth was going to be connected to Soapdish The Musical too, which is equally amazing. She's also doing MAME on Broadway at some point!

Also where did Chris Jarman go? I swear he was originally announced as Stromboli. He probably dropped out for the same reason he left Fiddler on the Roof over the summer. He'd been announced for both roles before leaving the first one. I think he's ok though, I saw a pic of him at a Press Night.

Have been a bit slow to report but went to see this last Friday and really enjoyed it! I thought the balance between the serious and the comic was just right and the audience interaction bits were hilarious. I got the impression that some of the more senior audience members didn't know what the hell they'd let themselves in for. My chum preferred it to 'Ink' in fact and felt this one refrained from being just that little bit too "James Graham" for his liking. Acting was fab, particularly Gavin Spokes, Sarah Woodward and Keir Charles.
Anyway, the most exciting part of the evening was afterwards when we entered the post-'Quiz' quiz in the Minerva saloon hosted by Daniel Evans and Rachel Tackley. There were about 10-12 teams I suppose and the questions were quite History of CFT-heavy but we only went and bloody won the thing!! It was very exciting and everybody was extremely friendly. Then before we left we had a right old chin-wag with Daniel who is just lovely. We reeled off a list of musicals he should do and I believe he was taking notes. He was also rather handsome and has therefore become my favourite theatre gay (sorry @ryan, can you cope with being my no.2?)

My favourite theatrical experience was the Old Vic production of King Lear: when Glenda Jackson cast the curse of infertility upon Celia Imrie, the woman behind me whispered "It's too late for that, luv" At least it wasn't Imelda in front of you that said it. What a cheek!

So it was the premiere last night. Mixed reviews for the film but . . . You're welcome. Did I mention he held a door open for me once?

Saw this tonight and was a little disappointed. I can't quite figure out why but it lacked the verve of the old Ustinov movies. Poirot became an action figure at times and there was a clumsy reference at the end to another Christie yarn shoehorned in (which I very much doubt is in the novel). A great cast had little to do and overall it wasn't a patch on the 1974 version, especially the denouement. I saw it tonight too & was rather bored. Judi barely had anything to do but I did enjoy Olivia Colman speaking German. And all the theatre hotties spotting - Michael Rouse, Elliot Levey, Hadley Fraser, Adam Garcia. There was even a role for Mrs Jacobi.

Re: potential finalists - Joe is picking up steam in my opinion. Didn't want Aston to make the final due to similar opinions as listed above but it should have been Ruth tonight.
Also, the conspiracy theories that creep into this thread are hilarious.

Serious issues with the marking tonight. Massive lack of consistency. Alexandra stumbled - no comments made, gets a 39. Mollie stumbles as badly - and gets lots of comments and a lower score. Really pleased for Debbie. It is about time this show had an older winner. Does that surprise anyone this series? The Burke-bot could spend the whole routine sat on the floor and the judges would fall over themselves for her. It's a joke. As much as it pains me to say it, I actually think Ruth could have been my favourite last night. Really?!! There were so many good dances last night. You must have liked Joe's cheeky Charleston followed by super-entendres re: "coming from behind" from Shirl?

This could be seen as a shameless ploy to get in Transgender ticket buyers! (I can't think of a witty alternative to 'pink pound' for the Trans community, sorry). When they & the non-binary brigade realise they've been sold a lie, there could be uproar! And all because Patti was never a man.

Must admit to being excited about Anne-Marie Duff as Lady Macbeth... I don't know whether it's been brought up before within all the Macbeth discussions but this will actually be here second stab (ha) at it. She did it on Broadway in 2013. It wasn't very well-received which might be why she's having another go.

As long as he's a tosser because he's a tosser and not because he's autistic. Thanks Burly.
Somebody else used the "B" word but I'll let her off because I don't want it getting back to Andrew Garfield how much of a right-on PC square I can be!

I’m not always the brightest button in the box so I’m just seeking clarification on the definition of “name calling”... Over in the Strictly Spoilers 2107 thread you have called Michaela Strachan a “bitch” and Chris Packham a “tosser”. I found this a little alarming to say the least but only two of us commented on your use of (what I would call) “names”. By doing this did you “descend to name calling” or are you continuing to claim the moral high ground over the rest of us? Yep, you got me bang to rights on that! And...? Are you going to elaborate on any reflection you may have on our concern over this? Or are moderators just allowed to say things like that?

Choose your words carefully please. He hasn’t admitted anything. Ok. I don't even have on record what his stance is on colour-blind casting either.
