Just when you thought the RVP could not get any worse....it did!
42nd St was fabulous and then it was ALL downhill.

Yes, 42nd St looked fabulous on the RVP. Should shift a few tickets I should think! I will have to pay another return visit soon!!
As for Miranda - the less said the better!

Ah, I love a bit of festive cheer and goodwill to all men (and women and those who have yet to make up their minds!)

Innuendo is marvellous - especially delivered with a straight face. It is the audience who take the naughty meaning. So if Alice comes on stage and says "I am looking for Dick" it is only the same as the dame coming on stage and saying "I am looking for Jack".
I was unfortunate enough to witness John Barrowman and the Krankies in this show in Birmingham last year. It was simply just crude. Yes JB did grope Jeanette Krankie, she did put her finger through the fly of her trousers and I am trying to erase from my memory the sight of JB jumping into bed with Jeanette Krankie for reasons which escape me! It was truly vile!

I'm glad Joe won, and it wouldn't surprise me to see him in something like Chichester musical and transfer with it to town Joe has already appeared in the musical "She Loves Me" at Chichester a few years ago. Like anyone trained as an actor he will have had some dance training. It is so odd that very little was made of this regarding Joe but Alexandra got such a hard time.

Well Alexandra IS the best dancer but so was Danny Mac last year and he did not win!
It is now about who the public have enjoyed watching the most......

A little disappointing from Debbie's show dance in that she reverted to safe territory with her ballet training but there is a reason ballet dancers retire at an early age. Darcey was very tactful in her remarks.
Gemma seemed to be auditioning for Chicago!!!!
Joe's show dance too a little disappointing - too much faffing about!
Not a fan of Alexandra but she did the best show dance combining so many different elements.

Do the BBC publish the voting results after the series has finished? No.

I'm going next Wednesday and looking forward to it. Loved Cinderella last year but did feel it would be difficult to equal or top.

Oh gosh. Has Pinocchio been on the Malibu? Ah, those "technical difficulties" again? If, as other posters have pointed out - the show is not that technical (although these shows can be more complex than appear on the surface) the cancellation of previews suggests some major work/rehearsing is going on to fix this show.

This must really be bad as it only has a 2* review from Mark (who likes everything) Shenton! He is scathing about Marcus Brigstocke.

Probably a stupid question but does anyone know why the NT is involved in producing this in the first place? Do Disney need the endorsement of the NT on the poster? Why aren't they producing this themselves like Lion King, Aladdin etc? They are usually so protective of their brand. It took Cam Mack ages to get the rights to produce Mary Poppins on stage.

It's fairly obvious from all the above posts that the version first previewed is a work-in-progress While I take that comment on board, surely script editing, workshops and rehearsal time should be used for "work in progress". Once a show goes into the theatre technical issues take over the rehearsal time and previews should be used to "bed the show in" and do some minor tweaks/cuts/edits depending on audience reaction etc. not rewrite the piece!

Oh well, this was absolutely wonderful! It even moved this old "bah humbug" Scrooge to tears several times.
A slight peeve to start. As ever with productions in the round or in this case traverse staging you do sometimes feel that you are looking at the back of heads somewhat and in the case here, sat on the stage seats, I did feel that a lot of the direction was "out front" where most of the audience were sat, but that slight quibble aside this is a truly magical and moving production. Unbearably beautiful use of bells and carols throughout and some magical effects both haunting and comic. The staging, lighting and sound is simple, effective and stunning.
Rhys Ifans gives a truly fabulous central performance - every word projected, superb diction, completely faithful to Dickens character (as is the whole production) and his redemption at the end is convincing, comical and truly joyous. His scenes with Tiny Tim (again a wonderful, show stealing performance from the person I saw) are deeply moving. Helpful note, ensure tissues are to hand!
The whole cast are exemplary as is the direction. The giving out of mince pies and satsumas as the audience arrive is a wonderful idea and the whole auditorium is filled with the smell of warm mince pies and orange!!
A wonderful evening, a real Christmas treat and runs just over 2 hours including an interval. It came down at 9.40 tonight after starting a few minutes late at 7.35pm. 5 stars - it gets the wickedgrin recommend! One of the best things I've seen this year. I could easily see it again....but from the "front" this time! But I think the tickets will be as hot as the mince pies!!!
P.S. A pleasure to meet David J who sought me out in the interval. Great to meet a board member for the first time! We had a great chat!

Sorry to be a bit "bah humbug" about this but I am SO tired of this already! We will have to endure months of what she will wear, who's designing the dress, will the corgis be there etc. etc. etc.
Meanwhile more important issues (Brexit negotiations ?) get completely wiped from the news!

They are putting Debbie in a black dress. They must think it is time for her to go. Dark dresses don’t do well. “Has McGee signed that tour contract yet?” ”No, boss. She says she’s got too much on. Panto, radio show....” ”GET THE BLACK DRESS!!!” LOL - I have just spluttered coffee all over my keyboard! Thanks for that BurlyBeaR !!
