Miriam-Teak Lee - best ACTRESS? She’s a stunning girl and super singer but ACTRESS? I hate to say this but are we going down the woke mad 2020 tunnel here?

I just wish that had that ice castle and amazing hydraulics or cherry picker arms stretching out or SOMETHING.
A 1974 glitter curtain doesn’t cut the mustard. THATS why it closed on Broadway.

Is this still happening? Will it open on time?
Surely they can’t if the audience isn’t socially distanced?
Hm

If James Corden is in it (as Max?) I shall boil myself alive, chop my arms off, roll myself in glitter, set myself on fire then sing “I’ve come hoooome at laaaaaaaast”.
Cheers.

Because you appear not to understand that diversity doesn't mean that a person of every single colour and creed has to appear in every single production that exists. That isn't what diversity means. A cast can be diverse without representing all ethnic groups, and of course in some cases a non-diverse cast (in whichever way) is necessary to tell the specific story that is being told, for example a story about a particular ethnic group's experience or heritage. I have never commented on ethnic diversity. The only concerns I raised was the legitimate criticism that there is an overwhelming amount of men compared to women in the cast. That still stands. I love that it's happening, I'm looking forward to it but I also think there's a conversation to be had. That's all. Apparently mentioning that there is inequality is triggering to some, I can't imagine why. But what if half of the men are working class or gay? (Though some of the men here are also mixed race or black heritage). Are gender and race more important than regional UK or class diversity then? Are you saying we need diversity within diversity - while watching DIVERSITY? Haha......

They made some terrible choices for the film version. They cut all of Michael Bennett's iconic choreography in the opening 'I Hope I Get It' and replaced it with some bad MTV video routine. And Cassie's wig in the flashback scenes is a crime all of its own. Though i do admit to really liking the new song 'Surprise' The Chorus Line film is my guilty pleasure. They made some mistakes but ALSO made some great additions. Some wonderful performances too.

After 2020 there will be two words producers will only use.
COST SAVINGS.
We will not get the original Phantom back.

I get the Woke 2020 mantra but changing Papa to Mama was a mistake musically.
Even a huge rich amazing female voice can’t match the strong powerful male voice that Papa had/has. The new Starlight version 5 (gulp) just doesn’t cut the mustard. I wish they left things alone!
On another note the Starlight Halle Theatre in Bochum is sensational.

I think mostly, because the current M:F ratio is 17:1. Bury your head or don’t care if you like but thats the answer to your question. Sorry to be such a misery eh? Go and see Six. Just be happy there's a panto for us at all. THIS! How people can slightly complain after this year is STAGGERING.

Booked! Though I do find it amusing that they've booked Diversity, but there is precious diversity in the line up of all men aside from Beverly Knight How can you complain about lack of diversity when there is Beverly Knight, Gary Wilmott and Ashley Banjo AND diversity? What about Scousers? Asians? Stop with this box ticking nonsense!

He does. Perhaps we’ve mistaken a different mid 40’s character for the actual Aladdin. I repent. Or Disney did a really bad job at touching up the promo images and made Aladdin look like his dad. How can 2020 be a time of embracing inclusivity and black lives matter and ageist comments like this are not acknowledged? I’d say that Disney and the entire creative team have NO issue with the casting. They had hundreds of guys they could have used. In a week when a cast member I know from a show I did killed himself.... BE KIND.

I tend to agree with comments already made that, lyrically, the song is very repetitive and ‘goes nowhere’. I also think the same applies to the music. There seems to be no ‘progress’ or ‘build’, so the song and vocal performance appear quite ‘flatline’ if that makes sense. I think it definitely needs to be made far less one-dimensional. A key change / simple modulation would help that. Also without being rude to Carrie - she is a super talent but she’s not acting this song at all. Just singing it. No emotional gear change, thought process, subtext - just all easy surface singing. That’s why it’s boring and bland alongside the repetitive same music.

This is a very interesting new song.
Carrie isn’t acting through song and the lyrics say nothing.
The song itself is a melodic mash up of Tell Me On a Sunday meets Whistle meets Sunset with no excitement, key change, bridge or any crescendo.
It sounds very bland, YET catchy, romantic Lloyd Webber meets stolen from something else yet we can’t remember.
So much for the subversive funky new score and cutting edge style!
4/10 from me.

Is it just the seat count that draws shows to the Adelphi? It’s not particularly comfortable and the front of house areas don’t make a lot of sense. Maybe they offer a good deal. I suppose that cluster of Adelphi/Savoy/Lyceum/Vaudeville do offer another area to explore but I always struggle to eat anywhere interesting around there. I hope it brings lots of trade their way and helps bolster the reopening of theatreland. Struggle to eat? In central London! Hahah....

Great cast.
I wonder if they will change the show from Broadway to something decent? I hope so! Fingers crossed.
