Dreading this.
I really liked the last tour's orchestrations, even if I didn't think the new song was right for the show - it's a catchy enough song, but had no relevance.
If revamp means losing the 3D races or at least redoing them then I could get on board.
I have plenty of ideas for how I would make the definitive show, but sadly they seem the opposite direction to what Andrew Lloyd Webber and Arlene Phillips want to take it in.

They should make it Southern Express. Then they won't need understudies because it'll still work even if most of the cast don't turn up.

For years Andrew wanted to do Starlight in the UK as the production in Germany staged - a huge spectacular. That's how the show should be. Battersea Power Station was mentioned for years but of course that won't happen now.
I think there will be a casting TV show and an arena tour. You heard it here first.

Could they not stick it in a tent and tour it like Cirque De Soleil?

Could they not stick it in a tent and tour it like Cirque De Soleil? That exactly what they did when it toured Australia

I'd love to see a Bochum-esque full-scale stick-it-in-a-tent tour over here, but sadly that's not the plan. All of the venues currently booked, to the best of my knowledge, are traditional pros-arch theatres.

I thought they weren't allowed to do an "original" style version because of Health & Safety laws? Germany apparently has different rules?
Whatever happens, as long as it's not like the Kenwright version a few years ago with a tiny stage and two ramps either side.

The most recent tour was the best in terms of orchestrations. I hope there are no more song changes. They have to redo the 3D film as it looks really poor after all the recent advances. Better still some track around the auditorium.

It should have been an full scale arena tour years ago, though i'm not sure the demand for a tour that size now would be viable.
I'm still waiting to see Starlight Express - On Ice!

That's been done. I quite like the costumes as they were very different but it was mimed, so not for me I'm sure.

An Arena Tour for this would be great, it just comes down to whether it would sell, maybe they should do a reality TV talent search for it?

I might be interested if they switched the genders of certain characters.

Let them do whatever they want with it as long as it doesn't clog a West End theatre.

I unashamedly admit that I would LOVE to see this. Not happening though as I'll be in London two weeks before that date and again a month after the date and there are limits even to my obsession.

Do we think he's dicked around with the score or something and wants some guinea pigs to reassure him? The arena tour idea is by far the strongest unless he's got a decent sized w/e house to put this in properly.

I'd be up for a female Electra though for example.

I assume he'll be presenting the German duet "Für Immer" for public consumption. And maybe something new as a present for the 30th anniversary. And maybe he just wants to suss out if there's enough interest to consider a bigger revival.

The shows' heyday in the U.K. is long since passed. If ALW wants to do a major overhaul of it then I'm happy to see him show an interest in it again. Always surprised me that he allowed another composer to change the score, and those changes were even incorporated in the Bochum production. Implied to me that he really didn't care about the show any more. This is a surprising, and interesting, development.
