I also have "When the British Musical Ruled the World" on my pile to read. At the end of last year I read the Fosse biography by Sam Watson which was a bit of a brick but really good with some hilarious stories. Still to read: I've got Judi Dench's Shakespeare book (signed copy, dear), "Out for Blood" about the flop Carrie musical, and also "I was Better Last Night" by Harvey Weinstein which I'm looking forward to. Wrong Harvey!

Fascinating interview with Jonathan Tunick, who "is adapting the score of “A Little Night Music” for full orchestra, rendering it more suitable for performance by symphony orchestras and in opera houses. He will conduct a concert and recording of the new version this year".

I'm waiting for general sale to open for Swan Lake on the 11th January. It's my first time booking a show at the ROH. Are there normally a lot of stalls seats available once general sale opens? I'm hoping to get as close to the stage as possible but not sure how likely this will be. yeah, probably most of front row will be sold, but there will be plenty of availability in the stalls

I'm surprised they bother to have a standby for Karen, surely if they go ahead without SJP and no one is offered a refund they will lynch the poor box office staff

Unfortunately for Nicole, there's a strongly rumored revival of Gypsy with Audra McDonald for the 2024/2025 season

The most important thing is they don't cast Matt Lucas as Fagin

Very curious as to who will be the Monday (or more likely, Tuesday) night Norma. You can pretty much bet it will be Rachel Tucker. Word on the street is that she accepted the one show a week deal under the proviso that she was allowed to do the same for a Broadway transfer then succeed NS if the show ran past NS' 6-month contract. Mmmmm it looks like they don't want to sell any tickets on the standby day then

Has anyone won the lottery for this? Where did they seat you? Mostly in the grand circle, they're not really a bargain tbh

I mean none of them had been up to much after the end of Desperate Housewives, she wouldn't be packing audiences in a West End theatre even without a criminal conviction.

Streetcar Named Desire, Next to Normal, Sunset Boulevard, Sondheim's Old Friends and Crazy For You. It's the odd year in which musical theatre was much stronger than plays IMHO.

Among all the oddities I'm particularly surprised by the lack of love for Paul Mescal

Sorry to dig up an old thread, but wanted to ask - to my shame I've only discovered this show and I am trying to find a film recording. Does anyone know where I can stream a production or is it worth buying the DVD? Amazon has a film version with Elizabeth Taylor. YouTube has the whole proshot of the New York City Opera production with the wonderful Sally Ann Howes and other Broadway veterans. I'd skip the movie and watch that instead

Hi, Sorry if this has been asked before taking my brother to see this for christmas is there a better side of the auditorium to sit on or is it quite even with the direction? Thanks There are people who claim the view is equally good on both sides. Don't listen to them, the view is better from what would be the "traditional" audience side, the larger one in front of the stage

I'm currently reading Judi Dench's latest book and it's very cute. Maybe not as insightful as Harriet Watler's Brutus and Other Heroines, but full of fab anecdotes.
