I walked by this morning on way to Aldwych shortly before 10 am and saw the lline outside which appeared to me to be 25 people. (Based on the 25 or so people I counted st Kinky Boots)

As we walked by the Savoy tonite about 6 (on way to Fernandez and Wells only to find they were closing for the evening) I said to my wife "I'm going to go to box office and ask if Sheridan is on tonite". Wife advised me not to do that. We already had to to Titanic so could not have changed even if we had been given the info!

Saw this last night. Madden was off even though it was being filmed. Today (7 July) it is being streamed but I don't see how if Madden is off. Young women behind me were disappointed to not see him,. Tom Hanson moved from Paris to Romeo and I thought him handsome enough. More later but I enjoyed the first half but not the second and did appreciate the balcony scene. I was offered a stalls seat for 35£ near a camera which I was told "could" restrict view so I opted from grand circle clear view instead. Well, would have been clear view if not for the tall teenage boy dragged there by his mother.

We do not know if these stories are current. There is no indication it is about a presently running show.

I'm just worried that the National Theatre is about to announce "Brexit" the new play by Richard Bean, which has been secretly rehearsing for weeks.

I didn't hate Stephen Ward. I did very much appreciate the box office giving me a fifth row center stalls seat for a day seat price (ok - it was after the show announced its closing date). Hailing from the States, I knew vaguely the outlines of the story of Christine Keeler but had no knowledge of the Ward aspect. I felt like the show didn't really explain itself to anyone who didn't know the details of the story. I didn't mind Act One - but it ended strangely and Act Two just sort of took off with little regard to what had happened. And suddenly a show called Stephen Ward is about everything and everybody other than Stephen Ward for a very long time. The promise of the opening of explaining how he ends up in a "villains" display is unfulfilled - yes, it is unwarranted - but the show never explains why he becomes a "villain".
I also agree with Ryan that a tap number could only have improved the show.

I heard an interview with an actor playing Christine, I think on Broadway. Her story was something like this: They brought her in to record the final note. The other half of the song is sung live. She objected to the pre-recording saying she was healthy enough to sing it 6 shows a week. The producers said "no - everyone pre-records". But, it wasn't one take. It was multiple takes. So much so that she tired out her voice and couldn't sing the note live that night!

Agree with Defying Gravity and So Much Better of recent vintage...
The Story Goes On from Baby (Has this ever been performed in London?)
And, as London will see, "And I Am Telling You" from Dreamgirls.

My lovely spouse has a Scholar's Week at Oxford, so will be saying good-bye to the Midwest USA Cornfields and be in the UK from around July 1 - 12 - although staying in Oxford July 4-9. No idea what shows we will see - or I will see on a day trip from Oxford while she's "scholaring". Pretty sure we will get tix to "Titanic" - but other than than, we will see. It won't be the 40+ shows we saw while on sabbatical in 6 months in 2014! Thanks for these boards, so I can make some educated bookings.

The US Tony Awards have a general rule/default: If your name is above the title, you are "leading". If your name is below the title, you are "featured". There is no "supporting" category. Stage time/significance of character are irrelevant at the start. Producers can petition to have actors moved between characters - but it's up to the Producers to start the process and then the Tony Awards committee makes a ruling. (I don't know when switching categories started - but Donna McKechnie moved from below the title in 1976 to win Leading Actress in A Chorus Line). Rita Moreno won for The Ritz and used her acceptance speech to address the category.

So, a few days ago, the Savoy Theatre starts promoting Ms. Barnes as Fanny leading to speculation on these message boards that Ms. Smith was not returning. Is the announcement of a Smith return right after the promotion of Ms. Barnes just a coincidence?

I wonder if Heather Headley wanted to come back to the UK (despite or because of The Bodyguard). She's played Fanny Brice before:

I have no idea where to put this - here in general chat or in plays or somewhere else. In any event, my daughter will be in London May 17-24 and she might be interested in this experience. She played Barbara in a production of Night of the Living Dead so .... Any thoughts?

Are we sure Rosalie Craig is Mrs Peachum? Too young surely...? I reckon she's the daughter, Polly, who Mack has the hots for. I think that's right. I'm sure I read somewhere that Haydn Gwynne is Mrs Peachum. That makes sense... And seeing a mess sometimes is a fun thing! And Honoured Guest - I made the corrections!

Any word on how this "new" The Threepenny Opera will be. Rory Kinnear as MacHeath. Rosalie Craig as Mrs. Peachum? Simon Stephens' translation. My daughter will be in London May 17-24 and she's never seen a production of Three Penny Opera. The last one I saw was mumbledy years ago with Sting as MacHeath and it was ...... not good.

Wife will be in London next weekend. She wants to see Kinky Boots on Saturday night - landing at Heathrow in the morning so dayseats is likely not an option - nor is matinee. Any advice on discounted tickets?
