Did anyone catch the opening number from the Eurovision semi final last night? Even if you hate Eurovision check out this number. Classic musical theatre and so camp but its absolutely brilliant.

Love Eurovision but don't usually watch it until the Grand Final. However, couldn't help myself from having a sneak preview of our little lads' Dress Rehearsal performance. Jeepers... looks like the mums bought 'em summat nice from Topman and blew the rest of the budget on a slap up lunch for themselves. Seriously, will they really be performing in these outfits? Song- well, not that bad considering some of our previous efforts, but it just doesn't go anywhere. I'd be happier with a good old key change. And something I've NEVER understood (and would LOVE someone to throw some light on for me) is how you can sing IN TIME but you can't move IN TIME. The one with the guitar (barely played) is seriously lacking any co-ordination. The whole act looks like a couple of young kids at the end of year show... Russia next year apparently, so that should prove interesting for the Campest Show on the Planet!

Hello from Stockholm.
Last night's opener reminded me very much of the stuff NPH does in the Tonys. Love the chemistry between the hosts.
The timings have just been announced for tomorrow night's show and it is scheduled to be a monster 3h39m long - with a 40 minute voting period. Glad I have a seat and I'm not a groundling...
Saw Joe and Jake perform at the Eurovision Village and think they will do ok. There's a lot of warmth towards them here as the rest of Europe finally think we've sent something decent. Good draw late in the show too as long as everyone isn't drunk by then... We might just make the left side of the scoreboard again!

Oh, I can sing in time but find it difficult to move in time. It's nothing to do with my basic understanding of rhythm, I'm just not a dancer.

The UK is second from last.... is that too late to make an impression or perfect place to be remembered??
I think we'll do the best we have in a long time.
Favourite Eurovision song: Niamh kavanagh - In Your Eyes. its such a great song for the shower, singing crazy high with no one listening....

Last time we were second from last was in 1997 with Katrina and The Waves....!!!!!
My favourite Eurovision song without a doubt is Norway's winner from 2009 - Fairytale, Alexander Ryback. Just brilliant!!

My favourite Eurovision song was pipped by Dana International in 1998. The One That I Love sung by Chiara. Poor Chiara had another bash a few years later with Angel (another nice song) and then again with a song I can't remember, so I obviously didn't like it... A good slot for us this year, I reckon. Yes, Katrina had that slot when she went on win, singing with a live orchestra. (Was that the last time a live orchestra was used?) Edit: Checking my facts after posting, I was surprised to see that Chiara was pipped not only by Israel but by... UK, placed second with Imani. Orchestra was replaced in 1999

Yes, very NPH at the Tonys, which I also love. I don't think you can beat a big song and dance number. I guess that's why I'm on this forum

I love that song. I think nowadays it would do really well and so would her look. The problem is, back then it was more difficult to hear the songs before the show unlike now with the Internet and Lonely Symphony is definitely a grower. (I never listen to the songs until the semi-finals.) I really want her 'headdress' from the actual Eurovision performance. There are so many Eurovision songs I love from throughout the years I'm not sure I could pick a favourite and the list would be way too long for on here. Frances would definitely be near the top though.

I completely disagree about the live arrangement (conducted by the lovely Michael Reed) which was far superior, in my opinion, to the very long, repetitive, slower version released on CD. I seem to remember Ken Bruce telling us as she came on that the tempo would be fractionally slower, when it fact the opposite was true. I loved that long dress with a train, and there was a comment about the tiara and how someone's metalwork teacher should feel quite proud!

The Eurovision clip is fantasic a showy number definitely makes everything seem better. It does seem very NPH at The Tonys, I do miss him but fingers crossed James Corden can bring it back when he hosts. I think I'll have to admit to having Eurovision memory loss as I don't remember hardly any previous entries or winners!!

Hmm- when Australia actually win this I think someone needs to declare the joke is not funny any more and call it a day (well if they want to call it Eurovision anyway)

WTF?? Ukraine was terrible. It was dirge. Not a clue how the new phone poll votes are scored....
Disappointed that we came third from last, it was our best performance in years.

Thinking we'd got a reasonably decent result and then having it snatched away in the second set of votes was totally gutting. Would rather have known we were doing that badly from the start. Felt like a kick in the teeth.

I was very much in the #anyonebutrussia camp as I didn't want to give that regime a chance to grandstand (and also putting the fans at risk of arrest and/or violence)
I also didn't get the Ukraine entry. It had great passion - but I just didn't connect with it musically.
I think the voting felt very unfair (even though it clearly wasn't) and that will undo any of the good that the extra tension brings. Seeing a country like Poland come from bottom of the table to top 10 like that feels wrong. And these things are all about perception.
Now who can get me the sheet music to 'That's Eurovision'? Pretty please...
