I'm still surprised that Michael Ball hasn't tempted the crowds, like the coach tours and so on. I really thought his name and brand recognition of the title could have sold the entire run for 6 months.

I was also very excited about this until I saw how full the Savoy's calendar already is so I assume we have quite a wait if it isn't available until January? It’s not available until April as Plaza Suite is going in after Sunset Boulevard until 31st March

The prices are going to wreck the West End if it doesn't get a grip.
Some people will say "it's a business, why shouldn't they make money" etc but it's ruining the ecology, killing the golden calf.
I know first hand so many seasoned theatregoers who simply can't afford to come to the West End now. And that annoys me intensely. It's elitist and it's greedy.
The hotels have definitely become more expensive. I used to always stay in the Premier Inn Hubs too but my recent experience is that these have now gone up to £170 a night so I haven't used them on my last two visits.
I have two teenagers and on looking at half decent seats for Stranger Things for 4 of us and honestly, you'd get a week in Spain for the cost of flying to London and staying in a hotel for one night to see it. So I won't bother.

Only £20 tickets available are standing, which are not bookable very long in advance (so not helpful for people needing to arrange travel and, as you suggest, potentially time of work). Also inaccessible to people who cannot stand for upwards of 2 hours. All aspects of the pricing strategy - starting at £40; starting weekends at £90; pricing every seat in the theatre at the same price - are unethical. I am far from the only one who thinks so. Also - what tour? There is no tour. I'm glad it has the 5 stars reviews. It more than deserves them. But one look at the ticket website shows how much people are not inclined to book at ridiculously high prices. Mondays are the best selling day because it is cheaper, despite it being inconvenient for a lot of people and not a typical night out. They're risking the future of the show, imo, and it is such a shame because it is truly excellent. Well said!

Do you think this will get a west end transfer if it does well? I doubt it. It's run at the Barbican is tantamount to a West End run.

It's not good that so many shows seem to be struggling badly.

Avalon are shooting themselves in the foot. What a nonsensical pricing policy!

ATG *is* profit obsessed. The shows in their West End venues - for example, Cock, A Streetcar Named Desire, Shirley Valentine, A Little Life, Cabaret - are hands down the most expensive shows with dynamic pricing ramped up to massively exorbitant prices. Sure, it's the producers to a degree but ATG bear a large responsibility for this.

I hope sales pick up, it is so depressing when a show of this calibre appears to be struggling to find the audience it so richly deserves.

Saw on Instagram along with the new poster, Paapa Essiedu tagged Michele Austin and Kobna Holdbrook-Smith so I assume that they are playing the two other characters. I have to say with these four actors and Lloyd, that this is my most anticipated show of the year! They are in it, named in the NT brochure.

Jon, can I ask, do you seriously not mind being charged ridiculous amounts for shows? You always come to defend the often indefensible and I'm curious as to why.

The 'new visionary' can't come soon enough, although good pricing initiatives.

Mmm .. mind the gap >> NT: Until 11th AugustGillian Lynne: Crazy For You - 24 June 2023 – 20 January 2024.
.. though the idea of linking it with the Euro 2024 competition (June 2024) will be of interest, assuming it does go up west.
Standing at the Sky's Edge goes to the Gillian Lynne in February. I would be surprised if there isn't a plan for a transfer or reprise. This play has buckets of commercial potential and will attract a demographic which perhaps wouldn't usually see a play.

They need to up the ante in terms of the advertising and marketing. This deserves to do really well. Has this featured yet on Kuennsberg, The One Show, Sunday Brunch, Zoe Ball's / Graham Norton's radio shows etc?
Come on Playful, get it moving!

For anyone who has seen it so far… I know absolutely nothing about football. Given it’s based on real people from the sporting world, will it be lost on me?!? All the online reviews say you don't need to know anything about football to enjoy this.

Loved her, admired her integrity, very sorry I didn't see her on stage. I should have booked for Lear at the Old Vic.

Given it's in the Olivier, I suspect a transfer is unlikely but good to hear James Graham has knocked it out of the park. The Crucible transferred from the Olivier.

This is disappointing to hear. I must admit that my heart sank when they announced that Lily Allen had taken over the role of Katurian from Aaron Taylor Johnson. It just seemed like a wacky casting decision but I had faith in the creative team which sounds like it may have been misplaced. I'm going at the end of August so hopefully she'll have grown into it by then.

Every performance now sold out!
Very strong word of mouth online after last night's performance.
It's a shortish run - could there be plans for a transfer?
Edit: Now NT site showing it's not sold out whereas it appeared to be so a few hours ago!
