Agree. Their relationship really blossomed in the second act originally so that when Mother Superior steps in front of her in the Sister Act reprise it actually means something - here it just feels so weird because the comedy MS we have in this new version has no character development at all.

There were two chunks of tickets at £90 in the stalls and dress that sat there for AGES not moving, so I can only assume they went 'lets chuck Alfie a grand and get him to do two songs'
He can sing JRB songs not from musicals - I will storm the stage if he sings Bridges 😂

Ruth Jones does fit this version of Mother Superior well you're right - I just prefer the old one in the original Palladium run and the first UK tour.
The film has real heart, and so did the original show in London - I just feel like all of that has been lost in this new version, but I guess is made up for in camp fun.

I could pick this apart but I don't really know what the point is. It knows what it is - this new Broadway version removes any heart and substance from the original Palladium script, so there truly is no real journey for anyone to go on, and so it weirdly feels more like a variety show/panto than an actual musical.
That said, it's still great fun. Bev is once again singing her face off and is just a joy to watch. Ruth Jones is HEAPS better than Jennifer Saunders was. Can't remember the last time I saw someone as happy to be on stage as Lesley Joseph evidently is.
It's bright, it's loud, it's colourful. Is it a good musical? Not really, but the entire audience is having the best time and sometimes that'll do.

Considering Oz is getting out of most venues on a Saturday night and up for a show on Tuesday 3 days later, it's more than enough time.

Starting to think the Gillian Lynne is another front like those American Candy stores, isn't this selling terribly on tour? I think it's actually doing ok in the regions - someone of the telly in it they can stick above the title. Like, Craig RH has done Annie 79998 times and yet that still sells well every time it goes out on tour 😂

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong but aren't they also adding "Love, Look in My Window" back into the show for Imelda? There was conversation about this at one point, but no confirmation of it at the press launch yesterday I'm told.

So it’s not a comedy but we are hoping it is? No - it's not a comedy, but I figure there'll be laughs like there is in most dramas (Ferryman had laughs in it just certainly can't be considered a comedy)

Lots of hype for this. Sounds good, but also plot sounds similar to time travellers wife (which was awful?) Not sure if I should get excited or not This is the show time travellers wishes it was. I long for people the wider public to get behind this as it's so unbelievably good

New production.

I'm sure they'll be laughs like there is in any play, but it's not an out and out comedy.

I’m here this afternoon and got a front row seat with an order of service leaflet. Is this an audience participation thing? Everyone got one of these at the Almeida?

Imelda said on radio 2 this morning that it's a 21 piece orchestra which is great

Any transfer rumours about The Witches that ran at the NT? That show could run as long as Matilda, it was so special. No plans to transfer I understand

I just got a reduced ticket for today's matinee near the end of Row D in the Dress Circle for £50. Hope I can see some of it! I sat in D1 last Saturday matinee and it's a great view - you'll have a great time.

Definitely not going to be one to miss - I'm actually reasonably confident he'll be pretty good in this too (it's not a comedy in case anyone wasn't sure)
AMM is spectacular so worth whatever you pay.

Great to see this again this evening having seen it at the NT - it's even better at the Noel Coward.
Sublime performances from Gatiss and Flynn (Flynn not being Olivier nominated is just insanity), but I don't see Gatiss winning his category - don't get me wrong I love him in this show, but against Andrew Scott and James Norton I just don't find it quite in the same league (those two are ahead of the other three nominees for me).
Great to see an absolutely packed house, full of famous faces (always the way in the final week of a run with famous folk in it!) - 5 star at the NT, an even stronger 5 stars now.

Surely the risk you take going to an early preview of a new work (just so you have bragging rights that you saw it first) is that it won't be in perfect shape and will be in the process of being refined and rewritten. That's theatre! Quit yer bitchin'! Exactly. Producers/creatives have every right to re-write/adjust their show during the preview period. That is what previews are for. If you want the frozen, final version of the show, don't book a ticket for a preview. Problem solved. :-) Fully agree.

I was meant to go tonight but I just couldn't be bothered in the end. Richmond feels far away, and it doesn't sound excellent so I...didn't bother 😂

I mean it's still gonna be directed by Nikolai so I won't get excited, but an actual set as opposed to scaffolding sounds good

You mean they're actually gonna have a set? Eliza won't sing I could have danced all night on scaffolding?
THANK YOU JESUS

We were allowed to programme it any day from 21st March, within I think a 4 week window so I think it's less about expecting demand and more venues were given a bit freer reign on this one.
