Yeah, he seems to have deleted it. The common consensus is that he’s a bit of a rage baiter so apologies for even posting about it. I’d never come across him before but saw his follower numbers and assumed he was a respected journalist. I’ve learnt a valuable lesson today.

Desmonda Cathabel only seems to be Jasmine for Edinburgh. I wonder if they have a name to do the rest of the tour but isn’t available to open the show. or she might have another commitment after edinburgh! I don’t think that’s it. Cathabel is an unknown actress, why would they rehearse someone who can only do 3 and a half weeks of work before leaving for another job? The more likely answer is that she’s covering for the principle Jasmine and will become the standby or alternate when the official Jasmine joins the tour in Cardiff.

I have a copy of Unnaturally Green by Felicia Ricci (a memoir of her time as Elphaba standby) which I'd like to go to a good home. If anyone's interested please send me a message Highly recommend the book if anyone is interested. Absolutely fascinating insight into the process behind Wicked.

It seems Nicole has her next theatrical gig lined up. Rumour has it she’s going into Death Becomes Her as the Isabella Rossellini role.

Could Liisi be coming back? She posted a few weeks ago about how much she missed Moulin Rouge.

Has casting begun for this or is it cast already because more than one of the Heathers cast members are making less than subtle hints on Twitter.

CARRIE.
Unless it’s the original 1988 Broadway production. I’d even take a concert production of the 1988 version, just to hear those insane songs live.
The 2012 is so vanilla and sanitised it really shouldn’t be revived again.

Rachel Tucker has just been announced as alternate Norma! Monday evenings and other select performances TBC. The tweet says ‘head to the website’ for her performance schedule but I can’t see it on there just yet. Definitely Mondays though… Her first performance is Monday, October 12th then every Monday after that. As I predicted when Nicole was first announced, they’ve given us a powerhouse of an alternate which causes issues for those of use who live in North Scotland. How the hell am I going to get down to see both of them in the role without seeing the show twice in one day?!

You know interestingly I saw an interview with Stephen Schwartz who explained when casting Elphabah, one of the reasons that Indina was cast was not only because of the way she could belt out those songs- but lets face it, a lot of others can too- but because of the vulnerability that she brought to the role. Whilst I appreciate that the film is Jon Chu's vision, I wonder if Cynthia will bring that vulnerability? Going by the footage from CinemaCon she seems to be bringing some vulnerability but her Elphaba looks incredibly powerful and sure of herself. Obviously it’s only a few clips but the “pink goes good with green” scene shows her brining some vulnerability. She makes a comment about being different in class and she delivers it with some pathos. But everything else we see her in she looks like she’ll knock you out with one punch.

Auli’i Cravalho was just interviewed and performed Don’t Cry For Me Argentina on ITV’s This Morning FYI. At the first of the interview Auli’i comes across a bit too media trained and cold while trying too hard to be warm, but it seems she loosens up in part thanks to Alison’s brand of interviewing. The performance just highlights how woefully young she is for the role. She’s only 5 years younger than Eva was when she’d have sung that song within the context of the musical but 22 and 27 might as well be generations apart. I know most of the growing up I did was definitely between those two ages. Had they gone down the route of the current production in the US with a younger and older Eva she could have crushed the younger Eva Duarte, but as the older Eva Peron she just doesn’t come across as believable. Side note; it was interesting to interview an actress primarily known for film yet being unable to talk about films due to the strikes.

What is this? Did Wildhorn write this and it was staged in Korea or something? And this is the English language version? Exactly.

On her Magic at the Musicals show, Ruthie Henshall has just said that Tom Francis (Rent Hope Mill, & Juliet) will be playing Joe Gillis That lines up with someone in the thread saying Joe has just finished a jukebox musical.

This has all gone very quiet. Does anyone know whether it's still going ahead? I’m certain the plan was always to get The Crown out of the way before continuing with this. Since the show ends in November I predict we’ll hear a lot more about Hello Dolly in the coming months.

The first tour of The Commitments when it got to Edinburgh. The cast were over the show and were giving the most phoned in performances I’ve ever seen.

My show airs every Sunday from 10am - 1pm and can be listened to here www.nevisradio.co.uk/player.htmlI’d love you to listen to my Scottish drawl going on about musicals. Ryan

Rumour has it Denise Welsh is sharing the role with Suzy Izzard. I’d prefer to see Suzy Izzard in this than Denise Welsh, at least you’ll get a half decent performance from a seasoned performer.

I've moved to France and thought it would mean no more rocky. They've now confirmed tour dates here next March!!! I've seen the show countless times in the UK, does anyone have experience of seeing it on the European mainland? Do people congregate before? Dress up standards? Audience participation acceptable? #veryexcited I’ve seen that an English language production is playing at the Lido2, is it just the UK production doing a stint in France or is it a new production all together?

Wild to me this has sold out with just those names attached to it Don’t underestimate how huge this title is. My two bosses, who aren’t remotely into musical theatre, somehow heard about this and we’re talking about arranging a trip to see it the day after the concert was announced. Death Note has a lot of fans.

So I’m obviously not the films intended audience, being a 30-something year old man, but I had a great old time.
The film is seriously clunky at times. The CGI pulls you right out of the story at certain moments and I suspect film technology just isn’t as good as the creators thought it was when envisioning this remake. There’s a few sequences where Ariel’s head is clearly not attached physically to her digital body or her hair moves as one solid block.
That said, Halle is wonderful. She isn’t a skilled enough actor to act through the CGI, she was somewhat bland during the earlier emotional moments, but she does show some solid range during the more dramatic moments later on. I think she’ll be a terrific actor down the line but this was a solid start.
Melissa is fantastic and is clearly channeling drag. I would have liked to see her lean more into the camp as she gives a slightly more serious performance that what I’d have hoped for but she is fabulous none the less, and what a voice! I’d have liked her backstory to be explored more. Through her dialogue it sounded like they were setting up a scenario where Ursula was the eldest, and therefore heir, but was passed over for her practise of dark magic which would give context to her evil but she mentions in the third act that Triton is her elder brother so that theory went out the window. If you’re going to give her a history then go all the way.
Jonah as Eric was decent, they made him somewhat more interesting than the traditional Disney prince but not much. They give him a backstory that sounded very much like a breadcrumb for a potential sequel, should the movie do well.
Triton was okay. He merely just existed in the film. There was potential to make the role an emotional one but he seemed very disconnected and you never get the impression he liked Ariel, let alone loved her.
Honestly, I’d have cut Flounder, Scuttle, and probably Sebastian. Easiest money the three of them made. I’m with everyone in regards to Scuttle’s song, it’s the worst Disney song I’ve ever heard. My husband liked it though and the kids around me were giggling.
I loved the addition of the Queen and the reworked Carlotta character.
One of the more frustrating aspects of the movie is Ariel’s sisters. They’re all rulers of their own oceans which I think is a fantastic premise but it’s never explored and they’re relegated to fancy looking background actors. It’s very much like Princess Irulan in the 80’s version of DUNE, just a very expensive background actor.
I loved the land settings and found myself wanting to walk around the island, the market scene and lagoon were something straight out of a Disney park. Jodi Benson’s cameo is really cute and very much a wink to Ariel. It did make me miss a Paige O’Hara cameo in Beauty and the Beast.
Surprisingly, one of the major scene stealers is Vanessa. Even though she’s on screen for about three minutes she really makes the most of it! She’s very physical and animated. I wouldn’t be surprised if Disney reuse her for future products.
Overall, the movie is positive experience. It’s gorgeous to look at, at times, and is a perfect escape from a cruel world. The film had far more interesting ideas than it actually executes. The third act is the strongest part of the movie. Not perfect by a long shot but I’d say it’s the best princess remake bar Cinderella. Although Halle’s Ariel is FAR more interesting a heroine than Lily’s Cinderella.

. Ramin Karimloo’s “Till I Hear You Sing” was just something else. The Phantom from the Danish production sung it exquisitely as well and I think it blows Ramin out the water. It’s very, very sexy.

Please don't make the same mistake of throwing in cameos featuring non-singing/non-dancing "name" talent a la Joan Collins and Richard Attenborough this time. I thought that was one of the best parts of the movie.
