How does Spain being temporarily reinstated on the UK quarantine list mean that you may never get to travel abroad again? Wasn't tourism meant to never return? Still waiting for that prediction to happen....

The BBC reported yesterday that this will cause job losses in the UK not only Spain.
If TUI fold I might never get abroad again as my dad can't manage without a travel agent and package holiday.

Suspect a lot of people will be cancelling trips now due to not wanting to risk getting caught by a sudden change. You've been telling us for months (over and over again) that tourism is finished forever so surely no one will have booked any trips in the first place, what with international travel being dead in the water and no one daring to ever set foot overseas again?

Quarantine from Spain with 6 hours notice is an absolute farce after the weeks and weeks of dilly dallying over quarantine from other hotspots. Totally killing any chance of the travel industry recovering anytime soon.

Mask usage around 75% at Westfield Stratford City today according to my dad with no signs of anyone challenging non wearers. I was also at Westfield Stratford yesterday. It was about 9am so not all the shops open but there was no security at all at the entrances to instruct people to wear their face coverings. Quite a few with none. In M&S most were wearing them. Later I went to a local shop and owner told me that I was only the 2nd person today to wear a mask. She said that myself and the other person were of a certain age and the rest not wearing them were young. This i have noticed a lot especially on the trains and underground.

How on earth will they ‘police’ this? Ineffectively. Other countries have managed it. Here, the will just doesn't seem to be there.

Its generally been complied with what I've seen. The loudest people complaining about it seems to be professional idiots like Toby Young who can't see to understand why its needed.

The BBC reported yesterday that this is expected by the travel industry cause job losses in the UK not only Spain.
I imagine it will cause a steep drop in people travelling anywhere on the safe list due to fear of their destination getting re added.
That photo is more likely to put me off going to Spain, than Covid though.

I don't see what the fuss is - if you aren't sick and just have to isolate because of the re-imposed quarantine rules then tough luck, it was your choice to go to Spain! And if you get coronavirus in Spain then again you chose to put yourself at that risk. I'm hoping to get somewhere on holiday myself soon because I need a break, but I know if I get ill or get quarantined either there or when I get back here that will be a risk I chose to take and I will have to deal with the consequences. It's called being an adult. I agree it is irritating that you repeatedly just post tweets without commenting, this is a discussion board, not a notice board. You don't have to wait for someone else to start the discussion...

And it was always negative as well. It's not healthy to be doom scrolling (thanks NPR for that word!) IMO.

I still think that international borders do need to remain closed so each country can control their own case loads.
I went into Birmingham yesterday. I put my mask on to go on the bus. I do hate wearing it so if busy is quiet I take it off. Needed to pop into Tesco. Saw some going in wearing one, some not including a couple of police and one wasn't so decided not to wear mine. But put it on for a taxi ride and to get on bus coming home. I'll wear mine if I have to put when a lot of others don't then I do feel why should I.
Some people may not even know if they like wearing a mask or it gives them panic attacks. Say you WFH and do a big shop each week. Drive to supermarket, you may have not put on a mask before. Now you have to and you could feel claustrophobic for example. If it is self governing then those who may not like wearing one, struggle to wear one, those who cannot wear one all fall into the same category somehow.
Maybe apart from those like the hearing impaired girl's sister who need to remove theirs sometime and was wearing one to be fair who don't wear one should be treated as if they all should wear one and you have too. People have disabilities but if they go in cars or fly, I'd assume they still have to wear a seat belt. So maybe we just excuse certain narrow demographics and those with a disability seat-belt exemption.

I do hope we can move away from the mask situ before too much longer. I’m sick and tired of hearing about them. And that’s not an invitation for anyone to school me on why they’re important thanks, I’m very much aware of the ins and outs.

100% compliance in Waitrose this morning.
I had more trouble with my glasses fogging up than I did last time. It's tolerable at the moment but if this continues into the winter I won't be able to see at all. I think I'll have to try different masks until I find one that's less of a problem.

Every tip I've tried doesn't work, and it's a problem because I have no reason not to wear a mask other than the glasses fogging up so I'm hoping this will only be for a few weeks or months at the most, presumably it won't be a very long term thing.

Excpept if you booked in Say December with many airlines you cant get a refund or voucher so if you don't go you not getting your money back

I've found the easiest thing is wearing my glasses further down my nose. Makes me look "snooty" but does mean I can see where I'm going.

I had more trouble with my glasses fogging up than I did last time. Just back from a week in Devon and the mask wearing there was far more than here in the midlands. I am having the steaming up of glasses too.

Very funny read. Here in Germany masks have been mandatory for months, staff in shops etc. reminded every person, who forgot (sometimes had somoene especially at the door during the first weeks) and if they forgot, you were definitely reminded by other customers. Now it is the norm and there's not much talking about it anymore.
