Im not sure going 'Woke' ( whatever that means) is the reason for some shows not selling as well as others Sylvia was years ago, and wasnt 3 hours long FFS. It just seems part of their own culture war rubbish they want to make into a thing |

Yes, a very muddled article. The "Woke" version of Oklahoma! is a total sellout too.
Many shows would have concluded their "natural" lifespans by now if it hadn't been for covid, and that's why they're not selling. Now that we seem to have a long line of productions ready to come in we will start to see more churn.

Articles like that really annoy me because they act as if shows closing are a bad thing, they happened even before the pandemic and no one was saying the West End was in crisis. Cinderella closed because it didn't appeal and likewise with Pride and Prejudice. I imagine like a lot of industries, it'll take time to get things back to what they were but there are hit shows which are conveniently ignores by the writer. |

I'm not clicking on a DM article. If its using Woke as an insult then more fool them. Its origins are varied but mostly are around the abolition of slavery and not being a racist dick. Call me radical but racist theatre ain't for me!

Nothing to do for 10 minutes whilst dinner is being made, so decided to see what’s seats are available tonight. Clicked on DMT site
Dear Evan Hansen has a lot of seat availability and it starts in less then an hour.
Hamilton has also lots of availability
Phantom-lots of availability
Les Mis—again lots
Couldn’t be bothered to check other shows as this was depressing
Why can’t theatres make offers after say 6.45 pm
I know some would wait for offers but others would buy in advance for planning purposes ( child minding etc)

I got a half price ticket for &Juliet literally five minutes before curtain. Was glad I did, I'd have been annoyed to pay more, though I might have enjoyed it more with a different lead.
This week, I looked up availability for a few shows as I was in London for work, and not one of those I tried had a decent deal on. A few had discounts, but all for really poor seats, and yet lots of availability. I actually wanted to see Dear Evan Hansen again before it closes, but I would have had to pay close to £100 to sit anywhere decent and frankly resented being charged that much for a show that's closing, with that amount of availability, 45 minutes before curtain.

I wonder if Westend Live will be on if the train strikes happen. I certainly won't be able to get there - or to the show I have booked on the Thursday.
