Should start a self-help group...foreigners deprived of London theatre.

How long can this go on for? Until 16 August, when it will no longer have to because the government decided that arbitrary date is the only time self-isolation rules can be lifted, not sooner (despite many of us turning the Covid app off ages ago).

Only if you're double jabbed plus two weeks, though, so shows will be dealing with this for a while especially with younger cast/crew. At least they have the chance to put someone else on, though, if they can.

Scott Alan has seemingly declared himself the West End vaccine police.
Whilst I agree with his opinion that everyone should be vaccinated, the way he is going about it is pretty appalling.

New one on me tonight. Booked a show at New Victoria Theatre, Woking. Time on the ticket was 18.30, which I arranged my travel plans around.
Get to the gig, turns out 18.30 is the time the doors open, the show starts at 19.30. There are then not one but two support bands before the main act - who are on at 21.15! On a Sunday evening! I'd planned my travel around the show finishing at 22.00 at the latest, so now I have the option of seeing two supports and a third of who I actually came to see, or just go home now.
The time on the ticket should always be the time the show starts. Otherwise this happens and it buggers up your whole evening.

Isn't it funny how quickly theatre went back to exclusivity? If one good thing could come out of this, I thought it would be that things like pantomimes would be filmed or livestreamed so that those who are either unwilling to travel to packed theatres yet or who live too far away could enjoy them, but I have yet to see evidence of that.

A lot of places ( like the Almeida e.t.c) are offering more streaming. But im guessing its a costs/demand thing

I imagine the reason for not live streaming a panto is because the same production travels to another location year after year.

And there are also plenty of local pantos, pretty much all indistinguishable from each other, so it's not as if it's limiting access to one place or only people able to pay West End prices.

I've noticed a lot of Christmas shows doing some performances socially distanced to cater for the more apprehensive crowd.

Just had an email from the Lyric Hammersmith saying masks are mandatory when coming to watch the pantomime. I'm intrigued as to how many other theatres will mandate masks during panto season.

I would of thought by now someone would of come up with something to stop glasses steaming up when you wear a mask. I have to choose between seeing nothing [cos steamed up] or taking glasses off & all blurred.

I have to choose between seeing nothing [cos steamed up] or taking glasses off & all blurred. I find masks with a small piece of wire in the centre solve this problem for me, but there are also various sprays and wipes for glasses lenses that make claims to stop them fogging up. Never tried them, but I have heard that at least some of them work!

I use the spray (which costs like £2) and it works like magic. Not a hint of fog.

Nabucco at the Royal Opera House. £245 seats reduced to £15 - Thank you very much Mister Covid!
Some bloke at the start announced the chorus would sing in masks and the punters widely booed this obviously cancelled performances and death is more important.
Reading about all the cancelled performances (I sadly won't be seeing Cabaret this week) hats off to the company for putting it on as the performance must of featured around 150 singers and musicians.

Copying these comments over from the Cinderella thread as they are relevant here too. I don't know what Jan sales were like but certainly the performances in the week it shut looked well sold to my eyes (with comparison to other shows I was looking at when trying to find a replacement). I think you only need to look at the sales of some other shows to know that it's going to be a very rough time for theatres in January. Just a quick browse shows Come From Away only about 1/3 sold tomorrow (with upper circle closed), Pretty Woman and &Juliet have barely sold anything. Poppins has also closed their upper circle. Back to the future only around half sold. Even Matilda is only looking around 1/3 sold for Weds and Thurs eve. It’s possibly a good time to get into London to see something, as long as you’re flexible about what you want to see?

Lots and lots of offers around at the moment for some of the big shows.

Plus there being a good chance of an upgrade if you book upper circle tickets and the level is closed... Bad for the theatre, admittedly, but good for a bargain.
