Even Qustion Time is now, losing their audience, moreover and I didn’t think of this at that is studio audiences, like the new Ready, Steady, Cook and The One Show. Would this put in doubt shows like the brilliant Chase and Pointless now? Not only can we not go to the theatre, watch any sports and general participation television seems to being axed. So enjoy self your isolation, doing squat. Ready Steady Cook is already in the can so they can air. The Chase, Pointless already use a mix of new and repeats and I think The Chase has plenty of new episodes as they had to record them due to Bradley Walsh's Doctor Who commitment. We can live without Q Time for sure. Now is the time for telly people to dig into the archives and find all those great plays , the really funny series, Yes Minister, Only Fools and Horses etc, and put them on daytime tv for the over 70s Hurrah. Or at least on iPlayer archive. They have some good stuff tucked away but release drip drip on the archive and they seem to think we want nothing but Theroux and Attenborough. What they should do, as if they would listen, is ask for requests. What would the confined over 70s or people with health issues, not same group I know, like to see on the telly? For free. |

We can live without Q Time for sure. Realistically, I don't see any of the broadcasters having to show anything ancient, they've got content from just the last few years that would be sufficient not to mention they've just released Britbox which USP is classic and recent British TV. |

That was just an example, guess there are plenty of others Nit just shows that use an audience, but any television being made, such as Doctor Who, hard to make any programmes such as drama as everyone has to social distance - maybe the Studios will close, temporary. Only News output being made, as this is a vital public service. |

Royal Opera house has closed the building and cancelled performances until April 19th. Cinema screenings also cancelled.

On the upside, they might put some archive stuff online. Theatres have the chance here to turn this to their advantage - they have a captive audience. I grew up in the 4 TV channel era and got a lot of my education through TV, back in the era when you'd get RSC plays on primetime BBC2 and hour long interviews with the likes of Jean Genet. Many theatres have archive recordings with actors who are now Hollywood stars with huge fanbases, and if they are able to do what the Met Opera is now doing and put work online they could pull in a whole new audience when we are on the other side of this. |

Totally agree with all these suggestions.
Now would be the perfect time to make recordings available - including archive stuff that wasn't initially intended for public release!
Would also generate some income for the companies.

ATG are accepting bookings for London West End shows like Pretty Woman and Come from Away from 30 March onwards. At venues outside London bookings are still open from now. Joe Brown is at Richmond (London) Theatre next Monday 23 March and that's still open for bookings.
I know the Back To The Future matinee I have booked for tomorrow is cancelled but I can still buy a ticket.
I doubt many people are actually buying but I'm surprised they haven't blocked the West End for longer and other theatres not at all.

ATG are accepting bookings for London West End shows like Pretty Woman and Come from Away from 30 March onwards. At venues outside London bookings are still open from now. Joe Brown is at Richmond (London) Theatre next Monday 23 March and that's still open for bookings. I know the Back To The Future matinee I have booked for tomorrow is cancelled but I can still buy a ticket. Well anyone who books a theatre ticket now for any time really, except perhaps August/September onwards, is a bit silly at best, so it's their own fault they lose the booking fees! Which is what criminals say to justify their crimes “it was their own fault for being so stupid”. Oh give over, you know that's not comparable in the slightest. Do you really think anyone who is stupid enough to book a theatre ticket now for anytime soon deserves any sympathy (separate completely of course from people who booked months ago)? They are probably the same type of people who think going to the pub is still ok... Of course we all want to support businesses, but it just isn't tenable in the current circumstances. It isn't surprising in the slightest that the theatre companies need some time to shut all their systems down and refund people, patience is required. |
