At the Royal Opera House in 2007 too! I saw that one and good as the cast was, I've been waiting for a full revival ever since.

This is a bit of a conundrum isn’t it? I was excited to see this having only seen ‘some’ of the film. The pedigree of the people involved promised something visually spectacular, but it was really quite ‘lo-fi’ and more like music hall than a musical. I loved Barney Wilkinsons’ Jack and the wee Scottish lass playing ‘little red’. The rest were what I call ‘zeros’; neither good nor bad, just there and perfectly functional. I was really pleased to see it but, given the level of excitement I’ve seen for other productions in Bath, it didn’t have anywhere near the buzz required to power a successful London run, and it was nowhere near a sell out…not without a shed load of PR, tv spots and dare I say it, a couple of tv names. Furthermore it was ‘exactly’ what I thought it would be in terms of what it looked like and the performances, which I also can’t imagine would please the critics.

I would love for the MCF production to return Oh I want something big and glitzy, either produced by Sonia Freidman and/or (preferably) directed by Marianne Elliott I'm sure Elliott could do an interesting job but not sure the inevitable monochromatic set with neon lighting would do the source material justice hehe

At the Royal Opera House in 2007 too! I remember that one. It was in one of the smaller theatres attached. Good cast if I remember rightly but can only think of Anne Reid who was possibly the bakers wife. Jack’s mum I think? Baker’s Wife was Anna Francolini (from memory).

What's your definition of major revival? I've seen it loads of times at fringe theatres eg the Landor, the Cockpit etc plus the odd amdram And even if you only count three major revivals that's more than most musicals get (Gypsy has only had one London revival since the 1970s for example)

Aren’t we forgetting the Regent’s Park one. Actually outdoors! Can’t get more major revival than that

Strangely enough I also heard today that they're having one last go at getting this into town... What about this though?

I think we are more likely to see the recent Broadway production in London

Given todays verdict do we think there is any hope of this being remounted for The Old Vic?

This version is dead, not coming back. I think it is about time you all come to terms with it.

Not this again.
Kevin spacey was nothing to do with this show not happening at the Old Vic, it was all about Terry Gilliam.
This show is dead.
